After my 10+ years of working on/for

, what legitimately stings and stuff hurts the most is how I wasn't even given the opportunity to tell my peers farewell or given the "thank you" send off email. After all I did for the product and the company, I wasn't given that.

I don't talk about this much, but I've lost nearly 40lb since beginning of the year and been kicking ass. I feel good. This is the official lowest body weight I've recorded since I've owned a scale, almost 15 years. 🎉

Related, but why are engineers trying to optimize costs to near- $0 to save $5/month? How did we get here? At 14 years old, I couldn't imagine running a hobby project on the internet and not expect to pay $5 or $10/month for some hosting. The mental gymnastics are insane.

Even before that it was happening, and felt real bad working in the industry for 10+ years getting the same comp and title as someone with 2 years or whatever of experience. To me, the difference is value to the company. True senior engineers aren't valued as much these days.

I also accomplished this while the CTO of the company, to my face, told me "I hope this fails" during a presentation to all of upper management quarterly planning. To this day, this event still wrecks me. I didn't fully recover my productivity or motivations after this.

I'm not even legally allowed to talk about how/why it went down publicly, and it sucks that I can't share anything. Not for others, not for Sentry, for me. Lots of people betrayed me, and I have no idea why. I helped fundamentally shape the company from infancy to maturity.

Instead of Hack Week at your company, can we just have a week off instead? Hack Weeks are awkward for lots of folks and put extra stress and pressures on supporting teams. If you want your team to have a creative outlet, empower that during their normal hours.

Seniors with the experience to justify it, tend to lean more towards quality and produce less quantity of product. Which tends to be a bit counter to a lot of goals in tech these days. People want to pump out new features, not burn down tech debt or invest in architecting.

Hit 60lb loss. It's pretty wild how different I feel. My scale weight loss has slowed a bit, but I've been tracking fat % and lean muscle mass. I've more rapidly still been losing fat while gaining muscle. I'm shifting my goal to a body fat of 18% rather than scale weight.
