Just think of all the things he could do if he really wanted to help schools. Lunch room duty, drive a school bus, or ride on a problem bus and help the driver, substitute teach, etc. Looking over the librarianโs shoulder to find inappropriate books is the last thing needed.

Exactly! As a high school librarian for many years I heard students say the same thing. Then I went to elementary and K-2 kids are so excited about reading books. Third grade is all about test scores. And reading test type passages for practice. And it is hard to keep joy alive.
