@AshleyC49729953 I’m certainly for helping people. And there’s lots of Christian ethical teaching over the centuries on how to prioritize my obligations as a finite person. Nothing in Scripture commands that I agree any of the helping must be done through USAID.

@ljgiblin All a fair debate. And I don’t accuse you of not wanting to help people just because we may disagree. That was my original point.

@ljgiblin I said “on balance.” If the cost of having an agency that does some good is that it also does serious harm, it’s entirely fair for someone to oppose it. And it’s entirely uncharitable for Holy Post to accuse those with whom they disagree of simply not wanting to help people.

@EthanReedy6 💯 That experience radicalized me. You can find press reports of the SEC staff calling me “f—-ing case killer” during my time there because of my rigor in fighting against garbage cases.

@RobC315 Yes, it’s different because you said “unilaterally” deciding. Here, the Admin is inviting the SCt to rule on whether it is correct. I can’t imagine how this is objectionable. It’s what a responsible President should do if he thinks a law is unconstitutional — ask a court to rule.

@RobC315 Sure. But where did I say I support that? This memo expresses an intent to get a court ruling on the question.
