@benjstrauss I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels like this brings into question whether the subscription price will be worth it going forward. The Athletic sells one thing (IMO) - journalism. For that, you need excellent journalists. I'll wait to see who they keep before judging.

The ACC leads all P5 conferences in number of bowl-eligible teams with 11. It also has Notre Dame on it's bowl tie-ins (12). Also, 2 of 3 incoming teams (SMU, Cal) are bowling (14). Show some respect!

If both FSU and Clemson exit the ACC, will the remaining schools try to get into the Big XII? Unlikely - the ACC would still be the better home. IMO, the only conf. any ACC school would jump to are the B1G and the SEC. SMU might consider Big XII.

It will be interesting to see how SMU Mustangs MBB does in the ACC. They were really good under Larry Brown and Tim Jankovich, but very bad last year under Rob Lanier (this year is pretty good: 19-7, 4th in the AAC). Their ceiling seems pretty high.

Some say if the ACC expands again the candidates are Oregon St, Wash. St, Tulane, USF, UConn - but how risky is each? IMO, USF is safe to replace FSU. Oregon St. is fairly safe. Tulane, UConn are risky. Wash. State is... well, nobody in ACC country even knows how to get there!

When the ACC officially admits SMU and Stanford this Summer, they'll also be adding 2 more Heisman Trophy winners: SMU's Doak Walker (1948) and Stanford's Jim Plunkett (1970). That makes 9 schools (out of 18) with at least one Heisman winner.
