Since early this morning I’ve been listening to how today marks the “end of British rule in Ireland”…
Clumsy, insensitive and inaccurate.
There is a lot of celebrate today but let’s not forget that the island was and remains partitioned.
Every week GAA families put their hands in their own pockets to pay for the petrol to go to matches, buy kit for the training and raise funds for their club.
Why the huge fanfare when JP donates 0.0000016% of his reported net wealth?
I know who the real heroes are.
Low paid workers (€23k to €36k) get miserly €4 per week because of USC changes.
All those earning above get four times that increase - €831 per year or €16 per week.
No country for young people or the low paid.

We know that there are student rooms lying empty in at least three purposed built student accommodation facilities in Dublin 1 & Dublin 7.
€250 per week & no incentive to 🔽 prices when they can open to tourists.

It’s a sad day for Dublin to lose Ciaran Cuffe as its MEP.
Whether here at home or in the EP, he has been a brilliant advocate and I sincerely hope that this is not his last election.

The Green Party’s Ciarán Cuffe has become the second MEP to lose their seat after being eliminated following the 18th count in Dublin

Thoughts are with all the families of the school and very much hope the kids and the adult pull through and make a recovery.
It’s so distressing to think that any child would be attacked like this.
The Gardaí, the firefighters, the bus and LUAS drivers
They are all part of our communities and they’re hurting like the rest of us about what happened today.
Targeting them and their work is wrong.
Solidarity to all trying to make our streets safe tonight.
Our fire engines are also busy as we deal with incidents across the city and county

Disgraceful to see👇 again in East Wall tonight.
There’s never ANY excuse for protests intended to intimidate and demean.
I know so many in East Wall are hurt their area is being depicted as anti immigrant- couldn’t be further from the truth
Solidarity to all the decent hard-working ordinary people of Coolock tonight. Heartbreaking to see such despicable scenes today.
Garda public order unit also had to be called to Phibsborough tonight. Thugs trying to target those sleeping in tents.
Well that was nail biting!....

Staff working in cafes, bars & restaurants doing indoor service will be under enormous pressure to make the regulations work.
So PLEASE if you are a prospective indoor diner think twice before making life harder for them.
Many are low paid & it’s really hard work.
All too often we are now seeing political opportunism trumping political principle in Irish politics.
Eamon Ryan was a giant of political principle and vision and will be a big loss to Irish politics.

On the face of it, it appears the manner in which Twitter has acted today towards its workers in 🇮🇪 is illegal.
Under law, collective redundancy process must allow for consultation on whether
1) redundancies could be avoided
2) could be reduced
3) and who goes and stays
Treatment of Twitter workers is outrageous -

There is no legal “right to disconnect”

Workers “rights” should be treated like every other “right”
We want remote & blended working to be a much bigger part of life after Covid. Govt is implementing a Plan to make it possible. Right to disconnect already introduced, right to request remote working in train, regional hubs being established & tax incentives being examined

But compare that to the money spent heating energy-inefficient homes every year, or the increased carbon emissions.
