Ryan Tubridy’s statement says this is a matter for RTE. But surely for the last number of years he saw himself in top-10 best paid publicly released showing a figure below what he was actually paid. Did it dawn on him to point out that it should be corrected for transparency?
If the shortfall is met that would bring HSE's total budget for 2023 to €25 billion, or more than a quarter of all spending in the state. You have to ask yourself at what point do you look for even a small amount of efficiencies before increasing it further?
When Ireland goes into in a crisis the blame will always go to politicians, but the lack of accountability of the public sector never gets discussed. Rarely held to account and challenged over actions. One thing that would change that is prospect of dismissal and revoking pension
If hospitality in Dublin is going to be closed down again, at least the PUP should be re-upped to what it was. Frankly, reducing it today is a poor decision that, at best, is misguided.
It’s taking a lot of willpower not to say something about the people criticising the budget. There’s money being splurged. A lot of it is going in the right direction.
To the people who go into a shop to read the newspapers without buying and throw the sections all over the place obscuring the papers for those who actually want to buy please stop. It’s our work you’re destroying. Have a bit of respect and some courtesy.
The streets of Dublin are absolutely filthy. I saw a few power hoses out early this morning when I was in town but it isn’t working. The stains aren’t going and the surfaces look terrible. Is it the quality of them as well as people treating the place disgracefully.
Thursday, the dreaded day in the office because it means being back in the city centre. Exiting one of the capitals main train stations you are greeted by a waft of piss and your expectations are set for the day.
Just as a little reminder to everyone. According to CSO figures at the end of Q4 2019 almost 500,000 people worked in retail and tourism/hospitality and associated sectors. Going to be very difficult for them in coming weeks. So bear that in mind.

Siri, find me another country whose capital city is seriously considering limiting airport capacity? It would be the height of folly for planners to stop this.
When you screen grab stories and post it free without paying, when you complain about news that you’ve not clicked passed the tweet, the result is good people lose their jobs.
This is brutally honest and probably hurtful but also accurate. Hundreds of thousands of jobs would have been lost tomorrow, with a good many of them permanent.
As someone who lives close to this site it totally needs more development and BTR is absolutely fine. And I know some of the objectors in the area and they should be ashamed of themselves for pulling up the ladder, even for renters.
The first reason for refusal given by DLR is concern about a “proliferation of BTR accommodation with an appropriate mix within the wider area and within the site”. In Monkstown, an area todays

stats show almost 2/3 are homeowners and only a fifth private renters!
Xmas if you’re stuck on €350 a week and facing stress and bills is unlikely to be an easy time for some people this year. It is ridiculous that we’re carrying on like it can be normal. There will be so many people under financial pressure.
Ryan T keeps asking Tony Holohan about having a good Christmas. We’d all like that ...but in a week when tens of thousands are being put out of work for a second time there are more important things ...
In the 100 meters I’ve walked from Dun Laoghaire Dart station not sure what’s more amazing: the Dublin Bus that swung around another bus into opposite lane to get around it, the apartment with its Xmas tree still up or the ice cream shop that’s packed despite -1 temperature.
Like so many other companies my colleagues in

worked really hard this week to bring out a great product. We’ll be in the shops tomorrow & if you’re still trapped in there’s a big discount online. Also, lots of people lost trade this week, help them out if you can.
This an incredible piece of journalism. 20,000 words. Dozens of sources quoted. It also shows how Britain considers the NHS as a vital part of life. Worth an hour to read.
Just reading about a 2005 property deal. It involved borrowing Turkish lira, interest rate hedges, a bond dependent on the performance of a basket of commodities and put options. All of this to buy a Georgian building in a syndicate. The Celtic Tiger was something else.

The crowd of teenagers on the Dart sound like they’ve just left the set of an American TV show. Why can’t we have Californian weather and not the accents?
That INM news is extraordinary. In 17 years as a journalist I think the number of times an inspector has been appointed is in low single digits. And why is this news coming on a Saturday night?

Here's an incredible stat from BPFI mortgage data. Median deposit for first-time buyers in Dublin €52,800. Think what it takes to save that amount after paying tax, rent and everything else.
I'm terribly sorry to put another downer on this. But we didn't win. And Europe have given Ireland sod all. I'' around long enough to remember when we got zero deal on bank debt, despite June 29 game changer many years ago.

I am not surprised. Name a major project - electronic voting, PPARs, pick up a C&AG annual report year after year to see the delays and waste - where public administration in this country has excelled.

The political outrage over AIB’s decision is hilarious. For years there were warnings about the dangers of having so little competition and were ignored. But keeping empty buildings open is the one that now causes uproar.
I'd love to banish the phrase "national herd" to the same place as "wet pubs" (and the cows too) but please people read up on the difference in ownership of two large PLCs and how these companies actually make money before including them in tweets.
Of course this was objected to. If a shop couldn't get planning permission in Monkstown what chance did apartments have.
"The height, density, scale and visual impact of this development is out of character with preserving the Victorian ambience of Monkstown”.
With a lot of people worried about their jobs and future, perhaps it would have been a bit wiser to go into a small amount of details on the changes to supports, rather than focus on Xmas and a bit of flowery language.

has today raised €5.5bn through the syndicated sale of a new 10-year benchmark Treasury Bond. Funds raised at negative yield of -0.257% with strong demand from a diversified investor base. Read the full details here:
I wanted a quiet night in. But in Ireland journalists get this for accessing publicly available information. My colleague attacked. And not one person has actually read the story as paper is only in shops now.
Waiters at Ivy Dublin again got nothing in this week’s payslips from card tips in the busy restaurant. Plus obligatory service charge in lieu of tips (tables of 5+) goes to part-pay staff’s basic wages. No transparency for staff - or customers.
Company had sought rent reduction. Wasn’t forthcoming. Withheld Q2 rent was received statutory warning that company could be wound up for non payment. This is reality facing many many retailers.
10 years ago this morning Anglo Irish Bank out what would be it’s final annual results before it was nationalised. “Prudent collective provision” of €500 million taken.
This has been a very frightening week for many. It’s strange. It’s very tough and it’s hard. This is probably not even going to be the worst of it. It may be more difficult. It’s a long weekend ahead so enjoy that if you can.
From today's Leaving Cert English exam paper. The essay bit. I wonder how many thousands of 17/18 year olds were sitting there thinking what on earth a national newspaper paper is.
Interesting comments from Glenveagh. Planning delays to have an impact on delivery of homes this. Had expected 1,700 new homes, now to be similar output to 2022, which was under 1,400.
This communication strategy is out of control. Who has made the call that it’s okay to trickle info out like this?
The gov seem to have zero comprehension of how triggering this is for the wider public
Bizarre some attempts to play down the competition aspect of KBC decision. For reference New Zealand (which we’re fond of comparing ourselves to) has four major banks and the post office banking subsidiary is the 5th biggest.
My legal team have advised me that a full recount of this poll is required and the outcome will be known sometime after Ireland South result, so that will be 2021.
Many coffee shops are going to be quiet today. If can go buy a coffee and pastry or a sandwich at lunchtime. They will need your business for the next while.
