We cannot have this debate without also properly engaging with the issues of (child) criminal exploitation #CCE and blurry line btw victim & perpetrator. We need a joined up, multi-agency approach to prevention, identification and intervention - regardless of immigration status

Two years ago 31 lives were lost in the Channel. Today, as always, my thoughts are with the families of the victims, many of whom I represent in their ongoing fight for justice. May the victims rest in peace.
Every single person crossing the Channel to seek safety is an individual with hopes and dreams, just like every one of us. On this day two years ago, 31 of those dreams were tragically cut short in the deadliest Channel disaster in 30 years.

Precisely this. And I’m so incredibly proud of my colleagues at @DLPublicLaw who made this happen. Absolute heroes 👊
Something profoundly beautiful about what happened today. An independent judiciary, upholding the rule of law against a government misusing executive power. And doing so not to safeguard the powerful, but to protect the most marginalised people on earth

A non statutory inquiry has been announced- this isn’t good enough. Loss of life on this scale calls for the highest level of scrutiny, and the investigation must have sufficient legal powers to give it teeth. Anything less than a statutory inquiry is an insult to the victims
At least 27 people drowned attempting to cross the English Channel in a small boat on 24 Nov 2021. After 2 years, The MAIB has concluded its investigation and published its findings into the tragedy. Duncan Lewis calls for a statutory inquiry without delay. @DLPublicLaw
