@SCHIZO_FREQ Everyone's gotta go through some variation of this cringe right-of-passage, it's a euphoric release and better late than never. Your friend's just happy.

@coldhealing Philly over Detroit and Cleveland. Not nearly as dilapidated as either, and still proximate enough to NYC to still indulge. There will be another wave of Brooklynite ‘artists’ on the way once they realize they can mortgage a 3-bedroom row house for the price of Bushwick rent.

self-aware or not, the basic truth is that a huge amount of this broader social scene are principle-less strivers who are more interested in the idea of themselves being artists than actually making art themselves. That’s not a ding in and of itself — the two are often linked.
I genuinely think so many of the people involved in the 2023-onward iteration of “dimes square” (which is a joke in itself) are incredibly uninteresting, unintelligent, and almost exclusively produce worthless trash that doesn’t even come close to registering as “art” to me.

NYC is a black hole, and the more time you spend here the less you’re able to see beyond its event horizon. Literally too, you stop being able to conceive of Events and Things happening outside the city at all.
New York City has a heavy energy. Much more than London, Paris or any other European city. I can see how someone can get engulfed by it completely and lose decades of their life here thinking only a few days passed by.

@718Tv @CovfefeAnon Many of these women are from the Second/Third World, too, selling their wombs out of financial desperation. It’s framable as exploitative even in terms of postcolonialism and asymmetrical power dynamics. And yet… crickets.

Unfortunate, but most 21st century writers’ most important artistic work is their X output. The “classic” novel is primarily a credentialing agent at this point, its completion heralded more than its content, serving to give a reason for larger or further online engagement.
"I worry some of the best writers of our generation are stuck making tweets and newsletters. even great ones suffer from ephemerality. Naval’s marathon of insight would have been largely wasted if Eric Jorgenson hadn’t codified it in the Navalmanack"

anyone have the number of a good therapist
A new culture, a new civilization, is being born, and like all births, it will be traumatic. Every face that is drawn in sand is washed away by the waves. This new face will not be so human, but neither will it be almost God, it will become a soul that lives in some other way.
