My 2 year old will be 3 on Friday and she's just started calling ice cubes "tinkles," because of the sound on the glass. 🥰
I want to remember these things before she gets it right, so I put some of her "wrongs" together while waiting on the bus.

Myth busted?
The. FULL MOON. Makes. Children. Insane. The End 🤣 but really between that and storm wind, this has been a tricky time in school. Home is home. I see it in class. Even quiet children are loopy. There's a reason werewolf tales exist! 😆
I'm both delighted and honoured to announce my story about wasps and friendship in the latest lovely issue of
@ParakeetMag
. May it entertain and give you pause. It's a story I've always wanted to share and I'm so thankful to be able to do it here. 🐝 Thank you!
Happy publication day! Issue 3 is up and ready for readers. Sydney and I had so much fun curating this collection and are thrilled to share it with you!

As rejections go that’s a lovely one, and a "much-discussed shortlist" is a list nonetheless. It's all 'steps to success' this writing game.
I'm taking them one at a time and just very glad I'm on the ladder.
Go me!
My plan for 2024 and this
#kidlit
children's account is as follows:
Monday:
#weekendnews
(details to follow)
Tuesday: Repost a poem.
Wednesday:
#picturemethis
(details to follow)
Thursday: Write a poem.
Friday: Promote someone else.
Keep your eyes peeled for updates. 👀👀👀👀
Over the last 4 weeks
@AndrewsSusanM
has been teaching me metre. I am now at about 80% accuracy and can spot 10% of those errors alone. 4 weeks ago, this was beyond me. Now I feel lightness under the wings.
She should be charging for this.
I met her here. She's a best friend.
Ah, happiness in the inbox. Chuffed to say that I have two new poems up on the
@TheDirigible
today. One experimental (for me) and the other for KS1, inspired, again, by my children. Thanks to
@JonathanHumble
for this support!
Shocked and enthralled to have wakened to a 🩷 from an agent after
#PBPitch
on the book that will not sit down, no matter how many times it gets rejected it keeps clawing its way up.
Thank you to everyone for your support and boosts yesterday.
Hope levels ... fully recharged.
Nicccceee! A sub I've had out for a little bit came good! I have a sweet little bit of
#kidlit
going into this issue with, 'Ah, you're just a little earwig aren't you?' Thanks to
@CoinOpPress
for this honour. Made my writing day.
Dangly charms are not normally my thing, but when I got accepted to such an esteemed magazine as
@NorthGravy
I knew I was having this fitting little boat with part of my paycheck!
Come. Sail away with me!
Check out issue 11 via their page 👆! Did I mention I was in it? 🤗
It's a needle in a haystack,
It's a pin in a drawer,
It's a sword in a stone,
And a key in a door.
The thing that you are looking for is right there on the stand,
It's a pen in an inkwell,
And your story's near at hand.

Pinch me for I dream, a story about how wasps are cooler than you think they are (they are) that is so dear to me has been accepted into the next issue of
@ParakeetMag
and I'm just, quite simply, ecstatic!
To anyone who needs this. Rejections aren't the end. They are the beginning.
I did get a pretty sore one today, but it was a very beautiful and helpful one, and I am eternally grateful for the opportunity to have received it. The place isn't even open. It all came from ... 🧵
Today on
#fridayboostup
the children's poet
@CaroleBromley1
. Carole brilliantly won the
@thecaterpilla20
Prize in 2022 and has a great book of children's poems. With oodles of strings to her bow she's an all round wonderful person and writer. Do look! 👇
A BIG thank you to
@TheDirigible
for accepting two new poems from me, including this one, for The Dirigible Balloon's recent flight of poetry, which celebrates winter and Christmas. Subs close 14. Dec!
My metre tutelage continues. Here's a
#newpoem
about a recent sandcastle.
In the next I will be, 'upping my game' as
@AndrewsSusanM
says and writing with two impeccable metre schemes in play. Wish me luck! But meantime, enjoy this one.

Hi everyone. This is my new

specific account.
Still very active

for grown ups but just felt it was time for the split to take place.
Kind of greedy doing two of them this week, but I couldn't resist a haiku about my niece's birthday cake. So my here's my

Just sent two picture book submissions into the sky for the Rocketbird Books
@books_rocket
open day.
Wish 'em luck won't ya.
2hrs and 40 mins left for anyone else thinking about it.
Two years into writing and enjoying the marathon that is this crazy journey, but I need to remember these nutters. Sometimes I feel like I'm working too hard for something that might never happen. Had a lovely afternoon in the garden, looking at butterflies and eating dinosaurs.
Just got a submission arrival confirmation in my email from The Caterpillar. I had to email my poem due to formatting issues on the form. So now I know they have it safe, do I dare dream?
Today is all about promoting someone else here. Mark Bird is brilliant: Not only a superb poet but also helpful and a great community member. Check out his profile and then website.

I have cleared my desk and emptied my inbox, filled the dishwasher, sent some life admin emails, and now I'm sitting down for 2 HOURS of UNINTERRUPTED novel writing. Yessss!
And the winner is
@AttieLime
. I retraced it to work. I'd left a cloth bag in another teacher's room at the last inservice and forgotten about it. Thanks for mentioning work. Don't normally take it to work but that day was a half day and I'd been in a cafe beforehand. Phew!
The kids napped today?!
Weird, thinks I.
So, rather than dust* 🤣, I took the chance and edited a poem that, for the first time ever, I think might be worth a shot at this 👇.
Why not me? Eh?
I'm going in ... soon.
Might be too wordy, but I like it when I read it aloud.🤷♀️🧵7th
We can't think of a better way to celebrate

OK. Let's breathe.
I've misplaced my current novel notebook. *my absolutely essential* current novel notebook.
Breathe.
It's here. I don't think I took it to the cafe last week as I was working on something else. (I hope)

Not in bag or on usual shelf.

@TheDirigible
Check out my grown-up page in the next few days for a new one over there and maybe a new one here too. It's an area I love to write about.
Busy telling anyone that'll listen in Lush that my friend

So humbled to have been longlisted for Northern Gravy with an MG story. Thanks for this lovely start to 2024!
Also posted on my other profile (oops) so sorry for duplicate news delivery.
After a MAMOTH pile of reading our longlist selections are going out! Standby your inboxes. Due to our commitment of paying our writers (We know right? Getting PAID for writing?!) we can only select a final 12, but genuinely thank every one of you for sending your work in. 🩷
I am taking the next week and a half off from my prompts on this page as I have taken on the job as a junior editor
@loftbooks
and also I am going on holiday. I'll still be on socially etc but just taking the time to focus on the grown up profile until I'm rocking and rolling.
As a writer and a teacher I am pleased to be a mentor for this magazine. They're looking for more subs from young creatives by end of April, theme of: Things That Grow. If you have a child who would like to be published, you might encourage them to try this. 🌿

I couldn't be more honoured and thankful to be the most recent guest on Brian Moses'

for
@rew_erin
today. A top writer and supporter in this

community and I think we'll all agree that she's more than 'aspiring' when we check out her bio and her work. Happy Easter Erin!
So my eldest started the Rainbow's tonight and I can't believe I have a child old enough to do that. Got a permission slip for her first whole day outing too. What a brave new world we are entering over here. Mummy needs to take a deep breath!
Icymi, on May 11th I had an interview and some new poems on
@moses_brian
blogspot.
Brian has recently released a new book with
@Scallywagpress
called On Poetty Street. Well worth a read and featuring on the blog also. Take a look if you can!
Thanks again Brian!

Has she, or you, heard of
@litkidsmagazine
, I'm a mentor there and your daughter sounds amazing, we'd love to see a submission from new voices like this one.
💫 Things P5 had to say today when I read chps 1-3 of my novel to them. They gave amazing feedback on tightening it up. I'm so grateful.
Taking the enthusiasm as a big win and laughing because we all know # 3 is more fantastic than the novel itself.💫😆
Mummy
Mine is the cuddler,
the snuggler and the kiss;
the tissue folder,
the bag holder and the smile.
Mine is lovely words on a sad day,
the island I can rest on.
The one that smells of lavender,
and orange blossom.
Mine is the world,
the whole wide world.
@TheToyPress
So you know when one of your most trusted crit partners tears a picture book apart (you know who you are), but you feel totally alive afterwards? That's when you know it was the right thing and work must begin almost immediately! Buzzing about this change of direction.
The temperatures still aren't that bad here and I find myself wanting this cold snap.
So I read this lovely poem Jennifer wrote for me on
#picturemethis
the other day and felt wintry!
I started writing a bouncy poem about fluffy snow for

’s new

prompt, but this week’s weather took the poem somewhere else.
Try out the prompt and see where you end up...
