Out of the 25 apps I’ve built in the last year, 10 make $100 or more a month, 3 make $1000 or more a month, 2 make $5000 or more a month. 1 out of 25 has made over $50,000 in 1 month. I have a lot of work to do in analyzing what works and what doesn’t work.

I like being here because indie developers inspire me. I learn lots of things from true indies who don’t just make posts for clickbait engagement. Some are making $0 to $100, some $1,000, $3000, $10,000, $50,000 and even $500,000 a month. I learn from all of them. It’s great :)

Come up with app ideas. Break them down to the most simple version. Give little to nothing away for free. Some apps, you give them a taste then the paywall or a free trial. Other apps just a hard paywall. Do ASO, Release it, Monitor, Build Next, Repeat. Build 20 apps like that.

I don’t want iOS apps to be associated with dropshipping. That was one of the worse things to ever happen to the online world. Selling cheap terrible products to the masses just to make a quick buck. Being an indie iOS dev is about making quality apps for users. Not hustle scams.

Making apps is an odd thing. If you allow it, people will want to use your apps 100% free forever, never paying you a dime. If you allow it, they will let you starve. I am about to remove 90% of the free content from one of my newer apps. :)

Never forget that @Apple thought it was more important to give influencers like MKBHD access to the Vision Pro early instead of actual indie developers. In the future, Apple should prioritize actual indie developers so that more quality apps can be created.

Apple’s App Store Fee should only be 3%/6% not 15%/30%. If your apps make $100,000 in a year, you should not have to pay Apple $15,000. No business would tolerate that kind of fee, not even Apple.

I’m in love with renewals. My current average is 37 renewals a day. Since they aren’t cheap & weekly, I pull in about $350 a day on renewals alone. That’s $10,500 a month. I look forward to building more weekly subscription apps so I can get average daily renewals up to 100 :)

Building apps for #VisionPro is like going back to early iPhone days. The field is wide open, you can rank for any keyword you want, users are actually paying for simple paid apps & most people/devs have no idea of it’s potential. It’s like being a kid in a candy store lol!

I made my first hit app in 2 days, my second hit app in 2 weeks & now my current app took about 2 weeks to build. Based on my research, I think it will do well. But it could totally make $0-$100 or it could make $10,000+ a month. If it falls flat, I move on to the next idea. ;)

One more reason that I love weekly subscriptions is prevention against refund scams. Let’s say you have a yearly sub, at any point someone can refund it for any reason. But if you had a weekly subscription, Apple will only refund the last weekly charge. It’s so beautiful! 🥹

It’s really cool when you find an untapped niche on the App Store. Users are searching for a specific use case & no developer has really seen this opportunity. So every App Store Search results in 0-3 relevant results, mostly 0. This app will be a very interesting experiment. ;)

20,000 installs on the free app experiment. Time to add @RevenueCat to see how many users are ready to convert :) Based on this app’s category, non AI, the weekly subscription will be lower. I’m thinking $2.99 a week. 2.5% conversion, $2.99 x 4 x 500 = $5980 - 15% = $5083 MRR

Let’s say Apple only sells 1 Million Units in 2024. That is a captive audience who just spent $3500+ to have the Vision Pro. They will pay for quality Vision OS apps. If an indie captures 0.5% of those users at $9.99 a week = 5000 x 9.99 x 4 = $199,800 MRR. Need I say more?

When submitting an app for review, if you make the mistake of sending the iap through the IAP page approval process it can take a week+. The best way to submit iap is to attach it to your build. The only way to speed up the other process is to request a phone call from Apple.

Current base of 200,000 users who just spent $3500-$4200 dollars on the Apple #VisionPro ie they will pay for apps, every indie should be building for this platform asap. 1 or 2 months development time is a small sacrifice for a chance to get in at the ground level. :)

It was approved 15 minutes after this tweet. I was a little generous with this app. Allowing some free usage before the paywall. Based on this category, I also went lower for the weekly subscription. After 100 dls, If no one converts, I will reduce then eliminate free usage.

New app submitted. Promo Video processed within an hour, I was shocked. Lots of new ASO keywords are trending in this app category. I’m ready to ride the wave of user interest into profit :) Wow the app just went into review while I was typing this tweet.

For the last 2 weeks, I have been working on a new app that will be the basis for 4-6 upcoming new apps. I just have onboarding instructions + a paywall with a free trial left to add. I’ve never done trials before. Should be a good learning experience.

As an indie iPhone app developer, I use the #AppleEvent as inspiration for new app ideas.

I enjoy catering to a small audience who are willing to invest in my apps long term. I just need to get to 5000-50,000 subscribers. When I first started my app career, I was excited by getting a million downloads. Did that a few times, now I just want the paying subscribers. :)

@lucasleetyson Even though you can make crazy money on the App Store, I would never follow the advice of someone who does the typical let me teach you how to make it scam. It’s a quick way to lose money before you even get started. I will block him so his grift never crosses my timeline again.

@TechCrunch I have 26 apps on the App Store, 20 of them are subscription based, all 20 have made money. Once you know what you are doing, things are smooth.

One thing that I love the most about being an iPhone Developer is being able to get on the phone with someone at App Review within minutes. In most cases, it’s less than 1 minute. Real human customer support is priceless.

As I try to learn how to code for Apple’s Vision Pro, I am reminded that most times I have no idea what I am doing. I just spent the last 2 hours trying to get an audio file to play from my app’s Reality Composer Pro bundle. It was magical once I finally got it to play :)

For the 3rd time in a month, my app has been approved without IAP being approved. Something is definitely wrong with Apple Review. I submit an app, it gets rejected for some asinine reason, I make the fixes, then they approve it without IAP, who is in charge of App Review?

I almost forgot to mention it. In between cooking and watching the Super Bowl, I built a Vision Pro app in 1 day. It was fun. I will release it this week. I really need to get back to iPhone app development. That’s the main revenue generator after all.

@logankoshenka Thanks! It was Swift/SwiftUI + lots of app ideas + being early + hard work + ASO via @TryAstroApp + monetization via @RevenueCat . I think that’s everything!

Me too! People always ask “Do you build apps for a company?” I’m like no, I build whatever I want. I build what I think people may want to use. I build what I want to use.

The reason OpenAI is making their new ChatGPT model free is because AI needs lots of data to learn from, the best way to harvest data is to make their AI “free” then millions of unsuspecting users will offer their data for free. People should be aware of that.

I broke down Vision Pro use cases into 3 Main Categories. Then I came up with 2 App Ideas per Category. Some are easier to build, most are on the more challenging side. If I build them all, profit is almost guaranteed. Currently, I am working on the app which excites me the most.

I have been quiet because I had to fight for my Apple Developer Account. It was almost taken away with the push of a button. Moving forward, I am embracing a multi account/multi llc strategy. I will also think of new business ideas that I can fully control from top to bottom.
