This year I finished a book that has been in the works for years. It’s incredible to see an idea become reality & to see it become a success too. A dream come true!
Available via Amazon. If you enjoy the book & want to support me, please write a review.
For those using grids... Design the logo first, then recreate/rework the logo AFTER using grids and guides as a way to refine and perfect the mark. Don’t let grids dictate the design. Create something beautiful first, then perfect after👌🏻
The new KIA logo is a nice reminder why legibility matters - “Google searches for “KN car” have risen exponentially as approximately 30,000 people a month are misreading the new logo as “KN” instead of “KIA”.
I’m not a jazz fan, but this site has a collection of hundreds of isolated lettering examples from album covers and posters. Some superb lettering inspiration here.
The official logo for King Charles III's coronation, to feature in street parties, social media and souvenirs, has been revealed by Buckingham Palace. It has been created by Sir Jony Ive, known for his innovative designs of Apple gadgets, including the iPhone.
I find it fascinating to see how much the golden ratio is used in well known logo designs... I’m certainly going to start doing a second version of any design applying the ratio for comparison...
I stumbled across this drawing earlier and thought it worthy of a share. It was designed by Keith Lovell back in 1985 for the Hospital of Saint Raphael. I can't help but admire the planning the must have gone into creating something like this by hand. Incredible.

When I post a logo here I get a lot of immediate 'subjective' responses.
If you're a designer, do your research first - understand the context. The goals. The strategy. Do some digging. Then provide constructive feedback that adds value to the world, rather than "that's s#$t".
“Chermayeff & Geismar & Haviv's revamp for the brand feels as much like an art restoration as a logo redesign, fattening the shield up again, bringing back its border and generally bringing the design back to life”

Day 1.
Last week, after 11 years, I had my last day working in a web design agency. That role has been part time for around 3 years, but now I'm full in... full time to focus on making Logo Geek what I've always dreamed and imagined it would become.
So lets get started... 🤓
Did you know that in Illustrator, if you select the little circle icon that shows when a point is selected that you can numerically control the curve of a corner? Had no idea! Credit to

One reason you might see a large well known company release a new logo is to signify change. Welcome to Nokias new logo, it’s first change in nearly 60 years… "nowadays we are a business technology company”

Rant: I wish when people responded to a design they ‘don’t like’ they’d be more considerate about how they do it... how would you feel if people slated your work? Big agencies are people too. Also worth noting... the purpose of a logo design is to identify, not to be ‘liked’.
Love the simplicity and impact of this new design work from
@pentagram
The logo features a “square peg in a round hole” to represent that there is no “normal” when it comes to mental health & everybody fits.
So satisfying to see how precise and well thought out some logos are. Check this image showing the construction of the Shell logo.
Just please remember to only use grids to refine and perfect an already good design - don’t let it dictate your decisions!

Did you know the peace sign is modelled after naval semaphore flags that sailors use to communicate. Holtom combined the codes for "N" for "nuclear" & "D" for "disarmament." - this was shared in the LG Facebook group.
Count how many craftsmen it takes to produce a piece of super 11x3.3-meter Xuan paper? Originally made in ancient China and used for both Chinese calligraphy and paintings, Xuan paper has been a UNESCO world intangible cultural heritage since 2009.
This is cool... the designer of the Joker logo used an old-fashioned woodblock letterpress to give the logo its distinctive, scratchy appearance. More detail here:
How to post on Instagram from a desktop?
"Go to Instagram on Chrome and login. Right-click on the window to bring up the inspect tools, then in the left corner of inspect tools toggle the device to a cell phone. Then refresh the page."
Such a type nerd... Small things like this bug me. 🤣
In this old 1969 Alitalia logo the kerning between the first 'li' and last 'li' differ. Usually I'd think it was an accident, but this has been documented so precisely...
Must be an error that everyone went along with right?

Today I hit 90,000 followers. That’s 9/10th of the impossible goal I set myself a few years back. I never thought it would actually happen, but it goes to show that if you 10X your goals, and work towards them no matter what, you’ll eventually get there. 😁
Although the primary function of logo design is identification, I’ll always admire and love clever design that remains simple and versatile. This blog shares a nice collection of examples like this

Imagine someone handing you a guitar & posing this challenge:
You need to create a riff
with no more than 8 notes
that no one has ever heard before
that is super catchy
& embody everything about you.
That is logo design.

The golden ratio was clearly used to create the circle, just like they did for USA today 😂😂 - there’s no better way to make a circle right? 😂😂
I wrote this as a post yesterday on Facebook... it explains why I don’t like these daily logo challenges. Give that time to a charity that desperately needs support instead. That work will be much more rewarding, and you’ll get a good case study from it too.
