There is no such thing as a day off when you’re an SID.
Wonder why there’s so much turnover in this industry? Maybe it’s because even when we get to take our time off we are expected to work. A true day off doesn’t exist, and if it does, there’s no shot you’ll get 2 in a row.

The answer is simple: You don’t.
Hire more staff. Admins can’t keep asking SIDs to do the jobs of what 5-6 people should be doing. Burnout is real. Too many good, talented people leaving the biz because they don’t have the help/resources they need.
How do we ask SIDs to keep doing all the work they did 20 years ago plus the 24/7 of creative/digital/social?

This is more than just a one-person shop epidemic. SIDs are being asked to do more every day by admins, coaches, etc. No support staff role has changed as drastically as an SIDs in the last 10 years. I see good, talented, people leaving the biz every day.
Expand your staff.
3am PSA: Folks in decision making roles, if your SID is a one person shop, they’re not ok!! Unless you have 10 or less sports, THEY NEED HELP!! This profession will continue to lose good people due to burnout!

SIDs, and other support staff, are some of the lowest paid employees in athletics departments. So not only are the wages 🗑️ we are expected to work so much outside of what we are paid for.
But hey, we work in sports and should be grateful because it’s “fun” 🙃

Student-athletes get to know your SID. They are the person literally trained to tell your story and share it with the outside world. They can’t do that if they only know your name from a team roster or a box score. A huge reason why my door is always open!

SIDs across the country have been working nonstop the last few months, you have no idea. To see “media” bash them over things that are so small in the big picture is disrespectful.
Between making everyone come to this football presser in person, waiting two months to tell us a quarter of the team had COVID, and sending out Instagram posts with the camera roll showing, our SID is having a great day so far
