I mentioned this in my releases today but in Coach Carvel’s UMass tenure, out of the 11 guys who have signed NHL contracts…
SEVEN came to UMass undrafted - 5 were drafted after playing 1 year here, 2 signed as FAs.
I don’t know what says player development more than that.

No other schools recruited this kid except UMass and now he’s out here on the mound at Fenway Park hoisting a National Championship trophy and throwing out the first pitch. Pretty incredible.

FWIW, it wasn’t a command from our head coach. He asked & I obliged because I trust him to do what’s best for our players 100% of the time. Only outlets impacted were the ones who cover us regularly and were very understanding. That’s what happens when there’s mutual respect.
Why does the UMass Athletics dept allow coaches to do this? As if we have ESPN and Fox Sports knocking on our door every hour. We need the coverage
