I pay my son £20 per week to walk the dog when he gets in from school. Came home early today to discover him at home but no dog. Turns out he has been sub-contracting a neighbour to do it for him at a reduced rate. He keeps £12 pw and pays her £8. Don't know if I'm mad or proud.

@Mrawlins1974 @MrsMummypennyUK I was 25 and I was so proud of myself for managing to do it. I saved for the deposit which was the bare minimum and paid £80k for an end terrace by Wakefield Prison that was so damp you could ring it out. Didn't care because it had a pink door.

Some personal news. giddy to have been appointed deputy head of @sheffjournalism. Super stressful week of presentations and interviews but I'm thrilled to be taking on such a massive leadership role in the department where I did my MA in Journalism 21 years ago. 😍😍😍😍.

On holiday in Norfolk with the in-laws. Was sent out to buy shuttlecocks this morning for wholesome family badminton tournament. Took niece. Went shopping. Had cocktails. Returned with drunk underage niece and no shuttlecocks. I've been kicked off the family WhatsApp group.

My teenager had his Meningitis vaccine today. I was shocked to hear so many parents hadn't given permission. This is me when I was five and my beautiful little brother Sean. He contracted meningitis and died within seven hours. Don't be such twats. Vaccinate your children.

Just been kicked out my house by my 15 year old who is having a massive birthday party. I have been banished until midnight. As the taxi pulled away I saw a sea of teenagers swarming to my house armed with strongbow dark fruits and apple sourz in a cloud of lynx. Pray for me.

A mean boy who I went to school with has just had a right go at me on facebook for being a journalist - ended up in a row then thought better of it. Checked back in just now and saw he has de friended me - because my mum had waded in and torn strips off him. I LOVE MY MUM.

Have to say, it's frustrating to hear about the challenges of social mobility in journalism - the elephant in the room is that it pays terribly. Trainee reporters are expected to have degrees and @NCTJ_news pre lims for shocking starting salaries that don't get much better.

My father in law has been out the house ONCE over the past couple of months. to a hospital check up for his pace maker. He is now on a c pap and fighting for his life. Please please protect the NHS, tell your families you love them while you can, and stay the fuck home.

So excited. My second novel The Lesson, set in a university, is all tidied up and ready for copy edits. Starting on my third while I wait for my editor to do her magic. Feeling incredibly lucky to have two such amazing jobs. (I'm not counting motherhood. I might jack that one in).

It's easy to feel like a failure when you're being chased by the black dog. I've been off work since October and beat myself up about it daily. BUT. better days will come. I've written 2 books this year and edited a 3rd. I've fought for my son's diagnosis and won. I'm alive🩷.

I'm having a staggered return to work after an extended period of sick leave at the moment - and love being back - mostly because my colleagues keep coming to tell me they've missed my laugh around the corridors. Which is the nicest thing they can possibly have said.
