The Animal Cognition Research Group turns 1 on 🇨🇦 day We went from zero, to zebbies (bulding nests), in less than a year! Even better, I took this of my computer as I sit in my office and live-steam what’s happening in the laboratory.
@Psych_UAlberta
I love visiting my lab, especially when new graphs, theoretical predictions and mind maps appear on the board. This cutie appeared today and made me smile.
Special issue alert about the amazing Dr. Irene Pepperberg and her significant impact on the field of comparative cognition. SI was guest edited by me and

this morning. We updated the nest census for two colonies and recorded some nest-building behaviour (hopefully).
Zebra finches that observe conspecifics using a nest learn what a nest is, allowing them to recognize an abandoned nest as a social artefact and learn information from it. After viewing a nest in use, finches were also faster in building their own nest.
