Weekend read!
I argue in

#Israel
and Biden.

@MIGOPChair
No, it is not. You can't just storm a polling place and you already have people inside of the building. Stop spreading misinformation that can literally lead to violence.
As if the Houthis ever cared about freedom of expression.
This group is no ally of progressives. It’s a brutally conservative theocratic blood-and-soil movement that sucks. Full stop - don’t fall for it.
@JHWeissmann
There is a substantial difference between a temporary ceasefire and a permanent one. This isn’t a gray area at all - there’s a huge gap still.
How can you simultaneously say you don’t know who was in the ambulance (or their affiliation) while claiming they were terrorists?
That’s not how this works.
IDF spox confirms to Fox News they bombed an ambulance outside al-Shifa hospital, claiming it carried terrorists:
"We’re working on names, affiliations and what they were doing... It’s clear to us that they were certain terrorists, 100% sure that they were terrorists."
@mehdirhasan
It's called a broken system.
It can only be fixed with serious, HUGE structural change.
Unfortunately, more than half the country has no incentive to change a broken system that benefits them. We literally can't win.
This is the move that completely discredits the US in the eyes of the rest of the world. US officials would have you not believe your eyes and ears - an insane proposition.

they’re removing it for the same reason they take shoelaces and other items one can strangulate themselves or others with.
Still, how they miss the cultural sensitivity here and respect people is mind-blowing to me (albeit unsurprising).
I’ve been saying this for years. You can’t give conservatives ground by letting them set the “Law and Order” narrative for you.
You’re not inspiring anyone by ceding ground on bad policy. Lead through people-focused, innovative policy, not policy that fails and loses elections.
I keep telling establishment Dems. Lean into public health & safety. Truth. Optimism and hope. Break out of the old norms of “criminal justice politics.”It’s not only bad policy. It’s losing strategy. Be a winner: Speak truth about a future with less cages.

In short, the deal is not in US interests and is increasingly unrealistic under current conditions, as I argue below:
Concerning walk back. It's really incredibly difficult to argue proportionality in terms of striking Gaza's largest hospital when the goalposts are shifted to this reasoning.
AKA, they're not finding what they wanted to find, and appear to be focused on justifying it anyway.
BREAKING: A senior Israeli official said that the purpose of the IDF operation at the al-Shifa hospital wasn't to rescue hostages but to locate and expose a Hamas tunnels hub that connects the hospital with other parts of the Gaza strip
@mehdirhasan
This isn’t a good take. We should be making our case for progressive policy everywhere.

I’ll never understand how anyone can possibly be against expanding access to college by eliminating the debt wall that 1) scares people away and 2) cripples graduates without financial backing for decades.
There isn’t a valid reason to not forgive student loan debt.
@ryangrim
The saddest part about this video and so many others is the disbelief in the face of the person who is, in each instance, simply exercising their right to free speech.
I understand that right is different in many countries. But the “only democracy in the ME” should be better!
This reporting has me shocked:
"Members of the Israeli security and political establishment told the U.S. diplomats that the eradication of Hamas would require methods used in the defeat of the Axis powers in World War II."
@PeterBeinart
Strictly a vile, racist post. He knows it but keeps it just vague enough to have plausible deniability. It’s despicable and right out of the far-right handbook today.

1/ These tired arguments on
#Syria
are ridiculous. Jeffrey knows there is no legal justification for the US presence but dedicates *one sentence* to this by lying that the 2001 AUMF is the legal justification.
That's simply false. ISIS is NOT Al Qaeda.🧵
In an address last night, Alito reiterated his disgust with the Supreme Court’s “indefensible” decision applying the Civil Rights Act to LGBTQ employees.
But we should definitely trust him that overturning Roe won’t imperil other precedents.

What’s funny is his annoyance with being asked the same question, as if everyone is supposed to just roll over and accept an alternative reality because the USG believes its approach has been “working” for months as nothing has actually improved.

First of all, blue states pay the bills for the rest of the country.
Second of all, a “bailout” to working people and governments offering services to them is national, not only to blue states.
Third of all, the economy is, in fact, doing terribly for WORKING PEOPLE.
This is blatant misinformation that should immediately be deleted for the sake of Syrians all over the world facing the risk of involuntary return to

Ali - you should know better. Most of these people are expats. Stop.
Note: Saudi has over 400,000 Syrian refugees who benefit from services like free education and medical care etc. This is a big drain on the Saudi treasury and also crowds out local population. The refugees obviously also want to go home so Bashar’s cooperation is needed.

You don’t need to be a white nationalist to be a fascist, as any military dictatorship around the world can show you, let alone the Israeli far-right today that is most certainly very, very fascist (calls for expulsion of Muslims/Arabs and even some secular Jews, for example)

Unfortunately that’s how far the arrogance of many in DC view it. They view brutality as a necessary action to justify hegemony and use fluffy language to look like the good guys.
I’ve had enough of this administration and the countless USGs that pretend to be the good guys.
“We don’t care” should resonate with US officials and politicians. This isn’t a game - hawkish nonsense is escalatory without an endgame. This is THE description of US MENA FP for decades.
These folks are ready to die for their homes and ideology. Can the U.S. say the same?
“As we said before, if the U.S. keeps supporting Israel there will [be] escalations,” a senior official from an alliance of Iraqi militia groups. “All the U.S. interests in the region are legitimate targets and we don’t care about U.S. threats to respond.”
@snackvampire
We don't have the right to tell a people HOW to resist, but I also have every right as an individual to not support civilian harm.
