When Miami was in its infancy in the 1900s, it was immigrants from the Bahamas. In fact by the 1920s more than 65% of Miami's foreign born population were blacks from the West Indies. Majority of black people who lived in Miami at the time were from the West Indies (Bahamas).

We keep trying to tell them this. When I went to South Africa for my study abroad, most South Africans didn't know I was African-American till I started speaking. In Africa we blend in with the majority.
All most Africans know us that America is a white country. As a Black American, if you go to Africa, outside of major metropolitan areas, you'll just be another African who talks weird.

As late as the 1940s, many African-Americans in Rural South Carolina and Georgia could recite texts in African languages. They found Mende and Vai phrases to be embedded in Gullah songs, Mende passeges in Gullah stories and an entire Mende Song for a funeral dirge.

This is why I tell Africans to immigrate to other African countries. There are 54 countries. You have options. Don't risk your life going to Europe and having to put up with the racism. Nigeria is beautiful. Liberia is beautiful. Malawi is beautiful. Africa is beautiful.
