Hello
#PortfolioDay
!! I’m Kirill, artist experienced in Background Paint/Design/Viz Dev, previously at Barely Moving Pictures, open to new freelance or full-time job kirillzubkow

It's a good time to probably wrap up the year, which I spent studying, painting and drawing people with a portrait
I still suck ass but I'm better than I was year ago and it's already a good sign
@crimsoooo
It seems to be a popular opinion, but from personal experience it feels like it’s a skill to be able to finish a picture, and if something is not working or aligning
with your vision that’s a skill or character trait to push through and figure out what’s wrong
Searching for new ways to paint. It's always a struggle to find the way to express yourself visually.
This painting is done from
@Toronaydo
's photo. His way of expressing himself with photography is really memorizing
@Im_entropy5
Yeah, a lot of problem solving in this area seems to happen in such detached manner, where a lot of people are worried about how to prevent plot of terminator movies instead of actual problems that it causes right here and now
@crimsoooo
There’s also too much detail that modern sensors could capture, there’s too much sharpness everywhere and it sort of reminds me of raw 3d renders that usually look ugly as hell
@crimsoooo
I think it’s the process, that changed. Raw footage that comes from modern digital cameras is so huge, tough to handle and grade, that only a few people could make it look good, because you need a trained eye, incredible taste and shit ton of knowledge on value and color
@MathiasZamecki
@PatrickTOsborne
@JanvandenHemel
There's kind of workaround in Eevee. Just add a plane in front of the spotlight, parent a plane to spotlight(keep transform), after just assign a texture with transparency and set shadow mode in materials to alpha clip. That's it. Not sure if it works with soft shadows tho
@ashthorp1
That's so true. I actually see a lot of new ways of expressing yourself, because in many ways AI sort of bridges literature and visual arts, and I'm very curious what will come out of it. Also, it's a lot of fun to feed midjourney with some writers
I’m honestly very tired of painting and drawing and doing art every day, but not having any kind of seemingly genius results, at which point do you just chill and enjoy the ride while delivering revolutionary artwork? My brain isn’t satisfied with average results, am I sick?
@tomrkobayashi
Not only that, but the "taste" thing is also acquired through hard work, because you actually have to sit down and think for years what makes something look good. And without applying it myself I usually find it hard to remember these things
@tanjeronie
I feel you soooooo much, although for me it’s a problem with drawing digitally in general, it’s all such a crap in comparison to just doing it on paper
@AngelinaChe
You’re doing incredible and everything you achieved despite all the hardships deserves a praise. It’s deeply unfair and fucked up what we’re all going through, but it builds us stronger (even tho I would definitely prefer one year without character development)
@Im_entropy5
The simple fact that something can produce a picture INSTEAD of artists is such a surface level understanding of what we actually do, so much bs around this whole area and a lot of artists are feeding this narrative and selling the craft instead of actual work
@crimsoooo
Also, imo just having this lost feeling about career and life is such a precious thing to have, don’t fight, it will keep you free and creative and might one day lead to a discovery, but for now just going with the flow and being honest with yourself is the key
@Vertrucio
All you’re saying is true, but I don’t think I can afford any kind of rest in this economy, I’m struggling majority of the time so I need to figure out something different, I guess
@southiick
For comfortable work with photoshop you need to mostly upgrade cpu and ram, 32gb is minimum for ram imo. And I honestly have no idea about CPUs, but find the best one in the current generation and buy it, at least that’s what I did and it serves me well 🫣🫣
@llumdepalau
Ohhh, thank you! It’s basically how I felt during a very tough period in my life about a year ago, it’s very personal, so there’s all that tension captured
Apple vision pro feels like that guy from serial experiments lain walking around Tokyo with computers all over his body and saying he can finally see the internet
@southiick
It’s the same with any influential person in any industry. When they become prominent their voice is echoed in everything that comes after and everything that was before becomes dated. But everybody does it so differently, that I struggle to put it all under the same umbrella
@Vertrucio
Also, thank you for the kind words, even tho it’s a small thing, it helps tremendously, I usually don’t get a lot of encouragement or advice
@SalahMmoustafa
It seems like it belongs to zeitgeist. The meta thing with avatars is so surreal already that it feels like logical next step idk. But yeah, I’m kind of a fool that I didn’t double check this guy, I’ll know better next time 🫡
@RuiHuang_art
Justin Mortimer, Phil Hale, Ruprecht Von Kaufman, James Hague, Mark Tennant, Adrian Ghenie, Samuel Bassett, Matt Bollinger, François Bard
All of them have Instagram pages, so I guess it's not gonna be hard to find them
I honestly feel like it is a strategy of companies to use ai bit by bit more, and even if there’s a backlash right now they will probably get away with it in the long run, because from all that I’ve seen over the last couple of years, people get used to things very quickly
@southiick
I don’t have any idea why we have to call it anything really, we don’t have any description for the Craig Mullins’ style even tho he was like previous big thing in digital painting and everybody was ripping him off in aughts/2010s. It’s just painting
@llumdepalau
I had too much stuff to deal with before, so I kinda didn't have time to develop my social media. Also to make something meaningful and thoughtful takes tremendous amount of time, so I try to concentrate on my work rather than sub count on my page
@tomrkobayashi
imo it’s very important part of worldbuilding in lain, both in meaning and atmosphere, but lain could be so much at times that some people don’t really pay any attention to it, because show itself doesn’t really have any focus specifically on the noise
I’m not trying to be pessimistic here, I’m just saying that we have to be objective and view a bigger picture in 2-3 years from now, when scales of it will be incomparable to what it is right now
@_Dofresh_
When scraping data they don't use only Artstation they also use pinterest and similar resources, where people probably will save and tag these images themselves and use proper tags, so it's kinda pointless in the long run
@SalahMmoustafa
not sure about the one with statues, since even in flat view they retain the feeling of contracting down, the same with balconies, but you could always separate all that and just fit the other scene, at least for the head start(but statues are def need to be repainted)
