A reminder since the whole “go for a walk for your mental illness” thing is doing the rounds. I exercise regularly, have done consistently for the last 2+ years and on and off for ten years. It hasn’t fixed anything. Still mentally ill.

@RachelCDailey This is what always gets me. Predatory men don’t magically go “oh this is a woman’s toilet I won’t go in”. It’s almost always a man you know and in places that aren’t as public as a loo.

👏Holistic 👏additions 👏are 👏not 👏curative. They are nice additions that are beneficial but NOT curative. You can’t exercise your way out of mental illness. + some people physically can’t and that’s ok!!

While we’re on the subject of mental health. I’d like to remind those of you unaware that everyone has mental health. It’s similar to physical health. HOWEVER not everyone has mental illness. Mental illness’s are clinical conditions. Mental health is not mental illness.

The possibility of assisted dying happening in the UK is terrifying. I’m actually very pro it for terminal illness. But as we’ve seen in places where it’s already legalised, it devolves into euthanasia of those mentally unwell or who are deemed a burden. Which imo dirties it.

The reasons I am saying this. A mental health charity saying this and the theme of this week’s mental health awareness week. Mental well-being and mental illness are not the same. Yes lots of people correctly say it’s not a cute. But lots of people DO say this to people.

@reh_gal_axy A good point! We can trick ourselves into trying to maximise our physical health as a way to “fix” ourselves. While it’s good to be in good physical health,it’s not the same as mental illness. Also good point in that it can be negative for some in cases where it becomes excessive

It’s important with greater awareness of mental health as a concept that we do not conflate mental health and mental illness. Mental illness can be incurable and needs treatment. It’s a broad spectrum of illness. Even within a single entity like depression.

Depression in itself can be disabling. However it is also commonly co occurring with other serious mental illnesses. Like bipolar, EUPD, schizophrenia spectrum disorders. So it’s important to recognise the differences in mental health as a concept and clinical mental illness
