Marcos Jr faces arrest for $353 million in contempt of court charges in the US for human rights violations.
Biden gave him diplomatic immunity and invites him to Washington. The US talks constantly of human rights, but it's just hot air. Its only real interest is geopolitics.

It is a national lobotomy.
Founder and lifelong leader of the Stalinist Communist Party of the Philippines, Jose Ma. Sison, died on December 16 at the age of 83.
No figure in the past half-century was more instrumental in the betrayal of the Filipino working class and oppressed masses than Joma Sison. 1/
But days after her son was elected, Imelda Marcos has placed a stolen Picasso back on display. There are few people in the world as rapacious, cunning, and utterly vain as Imelda Marcos.

Obama selects Patricia Evangelista's searing account of Duterte's murderous drug war as one of his favorite reads.
The Obama admin FUNDED that drug war. Sec of State Kerry gave $32 mil to the war on drugs in August 2016. That money funded mass murder.
As I usually do during this time of year, I wanted to share my favorite books, movies, and music of 2023.
First up, here are the books I've enjoyed reading. If you’re looking for a new book over the holidays, give one of them a try. And if you can, shop at an independent
The corpses of thousands murdered by the Marcos dictatorship, the tens of thousands tortured, the billions of dollars stolen -- Washington was complicit in these crimes and now seeks to bury them. They will not let human rights get in the way of restoring their military bases.

There is a class affinity, captured in this glance, between hereditary monarchs and third world autocrats.
Their entire existence is parasitic and their ostentatious wealth -- Charles' crowns and Imelda's shoes -- was plundered from the working people of the world. 5/5
I am a historian of authoritarianism in SE Asia & have written a groundbreaking book on Marcos' declaration of martial law in the Philippines. This is my area of expertise.
I can say without any reservation:
Trump staged a coup attempt & sought to impose military dictatorship.
Did you know that Ferdinand and Imelda

had already stolen $100 million from the Philippine state during Marcos' first term in office from 1965-69?
Did you know that the Nixon government covered up this theft to help Marcos get re-elected in 1969?
These are the statistics of mass murder conducted before the eyes of the entire world. Blood drips from the hands of many.
Who was responsible for this immense crime?
A thread.
Data from the government shows that 6,215 individuals were killed in police anti-drug operations from July 1, 2016, to October 31, 2021. This number does not include victims of vigilante-style killings.

It wasn't just advice, it was active plans.
Ver surrounded Malacanang with explosives and gave the detonator to Bongbong in 1986. The idea was that Bongbong would blow up any forces that came against the presidential palace. (McCoy, Brothers, 241)
With unmitigated hypocrisy, Marcos Jr tramples on history.

The Marcos regime murdered ~4,000 people, tortured 35,000, incarcerated 70,000. Martial law was one of the greatest crimes in Philippine history. Marcos Jr was one of the criminals who carried it out. 🧵

Since my tweet about the 1987 Playboy interview of the Marcoses seems to have blown up a bit, here is one more.
In the midst of a discussion of the Marcoses alleged theft of billions of dollars, Imelda laughs and arrogantly confesses to the crime.
What is worrisome is that Ping Lacson is running for president. He was the chief torturer of the martial dictatorship and his entire career is associated with repression and police murder.
He should be behind bars, not seeking political office.
This is worrisome. A coalition government with the CPP/NPA/NDF will set back the gains of the government’s efforts to end the country’s decades-old insurgency problem.
To take stock of the life of Joma Sison is to document the bloody history of betrayed workers struggles in the Philippines. His was a life entirely caught up in lies. Sison will be remembered by the working class as a Stalinist servant of their enemy, the capitalist class. 27/27

Imelda spent millions of dollars, stolen from the Filipino people, to buy a speedboat for Charles as a personal gift. Never a subtle woman, when she gave the speedboat to Charles she named it ... "Imelda." Here Charles pilots the Imelda off the Cornish coast. 3/5

They again repeat the lie that the CPP & NatDem movement never supported Duterte.
This video -- Sison's Big Lie -- is worth viewing.

Philippine scholars issued this manifesto pledging themselves to defend historical truth and academic freedom in the face of the Marcos presidency. It is not a petitition but a declaration of defiance.
I proudly added my name to the list.
I wrote an extended historical obituary of Joma Sison, founder and lifelong leader of the Stalinist Communist Party of the Philippines.
To take stock of Sison's life is to document the bloody history of betrayed workers’ struggles in the Philippines.
On the basis of these ties, Sison enthusiastically supported Duterte's presidency. At Duterte's request, as the head of the CPP, Sison selected three people to serve in Duterte's cabinet. 23/
In an article published in Sojourn last year, "We Are Siding with Filipino Capitalists," I traced the nationalist, capitalist origins of Sison's core Stalinist ideas as a graduate student at UP at the beginning of the 1960s. 2/
The root of these betrayals is the class-collaborationist, national democratic program of Stalinism. I address these questions in a lecture last year. 2/2
A year ago today, I wrote an assessment on the WSWS of the election of Marcos. Published the day after the election, it is a historically detailed explanation for the return of the Marcoses.

So many of the NatDem supporters on social media are sadly little more than trolls.

I am saddened to hear of the passing of Lualhati Bautista. Her work, particularly the novels Dekada '70 and GAPO, was historically grounded and socially incisive. Among her most significant contributions was the crafting of a Tagalog prose style at once accessible and powerful.
REST IN PEACE. Multi-awarded Filipina novelist and activist Lualhati Bautista, best known for her novels “Dekada '70,” “Bata, Bata, Pa'no Ka Ginawa?” and “GAPÔ,” has passed away at the age of 77.
I was very pleased to have been a guest this evening on Facts First with

to discuss the history of the Panatang Makabayan and my own background as a historian of the Philippines.
Sison covered up Duterte's threats of mass murder treating them as jokes. When Duterte launched his drug war which began killing hundreds and then thousands of poor Filipinos, Sison told CNN than the NPA was committed to helping Duterte carry out his war on drugs. 24/
Among the most stark examples of Sison's betrayals came at the end of his life, the culmination of his lifelong Stalinist legacy: Sison enthuasistically endorsed the fascistic presidency of Rodrigo Duterte. 21/
Notice: I will immediately block anyone who engages in abusive behavior.
In the interest of clarifying political issues, I have put up with a great deal of abuse - literally 1000s of slurs, vulgarities & threats. No longer.
Disagreement is welcome; ad hominems are not.
Sison cultivated relations with fascistic leaders and local warlords such as Davao mayor Rodrigo Duterte and brought them the support of the working class and peasantry. 17/
The fawning and groveling has already begun. Let us revisit Mark Twain:
"There never was a throne which did not represent a crime" and "The institution of royalty in any form is an insult to the human race."

A group of nuns held up a banner that says "Thou shalt not steal," & the Marcos campaign denounced them for politically attacking him.
The nuns never mentioned politics. Marcos just assumed that any mention of theft was about him.
That's gotta be the biggest self-burn in memory.
Very hypocritical of the religious. This is why their credibility has waned. To be on the side of one political party claiming that they don't steal is presumptuous on their part.
In 1965, the PKP shifted its support from Macapagal to Ferdinand Marcos and Sison organized the backing of the newly founded Kabataang Makabayan for Marcos. Sison was instrumental in presenting the future brutal dictator as a progressive figure. 10/
There was a pattern to this: Sison would proclaim one ruling class figure after another progressive. When relations with this elite politico soured, Sison would denounce them as "fascist" and turn to endorse some other section of the capitalist class. 18/
Over the past year, I have received numerous death threats - most involving icepicks - from supporters of the NatDem movement & CPP.
Contrast this with my public defense of the CPP and the NatDem orgs from attacks by the state.
This is what principled politics looks like. 1/3
Why the adulation? Elizabeth’s sole contribution was to have lived so long. She was not a world-historic figure; it is difficult to imagine anyone of less historical significance. 1/
This tweet is a concrete demonstration that it is far easier to lie than to tell the truth.
Note that Laggui states that "[Makabayan's] talks with the LP stopped the moment Aquino became its standard bearer [in 2009]."
Let's look at the facts, shall we?
A thread.
Scalice did not mention that the talks with LP stopped the moment Aquino became its standard bearer. This as a result of the "burning of bridges" with the Cojuangco-Aquinos after the Hacienda Luisita Massacre. He is just sowing intrigues against the ND movt.
The list of betrayals carried out by Sison is long. He was guilty of ordering the assassination of political rivals, of falsifying the past, and heralding the most reactionary figures in Philippine history as progressive. 15/
I will counter with the opening paragraph of the preface to my book: "My childhood was filled out by this extraordinary metropolis and its haphazard sense of history. More than anything else it was love of Manila that impelled my scholarship."
Not to mention almost non-existent ang culture here sa Manila unlike capital cities ng neighboring countries natin. The likes of Bangkok, Phnom Penh, Taipei, Tokyo, buhay na buhay ang kultura nila sa capital cities pa lang.
Duterte launched red-tagging allegations that led to the murder of scores of activists, Sison proclaimed that the "best thing that could happen for the revolution would be for Duterte to impose a fascist dictatorship." Sison welcomed the suppression of the working class. 26/
In the Philippines, too, when I was a child, Für Elise was the sound of the garbage truck. I used to sing the "lyrics":
"Itapon niyong mga basura niyo.
Itapon niyo,
basura niyo.
Itapon niyong mga basura niyo
basura niyo, itapon niyo."
To much of the world, "Für Elise" is the ubiquitous song of youthful piano lessons and children’s toys. But in Taiwan, the melody is the start of a nightly ritual: Taking your trash downstairs and catching up on neighborhood gossip.
I examine Sison's political role in considerable detail in my forthcoming book, The Drama of Dictatorship.
How was it, I ask, that a mediocrity came play one of the most significant roles in Philippine politics?" 4/
Sison became a leader of the Stalinist PKP in 1961. It was the beginning of his sixty year career of lies, assassinations, slander, and class betrayal. 7/
Born to immense privilege, but reduced to petty bourgeois status by the 1950s, Sison agreed w/ Claro Recto that national industrialization under Filipino capitalist ownership was the key to national economic growth. This was Sison's lifelong concern. 5/
They may have endorsed Grace Poe, but they campaigned for Duterte.
And they shared they a platform with Marcos in 2010 and campaigned WITH him, even if they said they did not back him.
@mlq3
Boy oh boy, when you accurately transcribe his words you really see just how incoherent he truly is.
Also, "Clarita Carlos is a Marcos loyalist's idea of a smart person." That is perfect.
For all his followers talk of discipline, Duterte is the least disciplined political leader in Philippine history. The murky stream of his thuggish consciousness flows like sludge in his interminable speeches from one 'putang ina' to another 'gago.'
Sison sought to secure popular support for Recto's agenda. The program of Stalinism, which used nationalism to instruct workers and peasants to form an alliance with a section of capitalists, provided Sison the means of dressing up his capitalist politics as revolutionary. 6/
