@p_millerd You’re making a good bet there, but the extent to which spending should increase (or not!) should get more attention

@kofinas Why one should be here is an interesting question. What do you mean by “pointless” for independent thinkers?

@janecoaston What “the people who are very worried about birth rates” think shouldn’t really impact what you think about that topic. They can be nuts, you can be sane.

I like the idea of a reasonable liberal, in theory. Maybe the existing ones trying to live up to that are… Rand Paul and Massie? Branded as cranks for wanting to make decisions.
Politics requires decision-making. It requires doing one thing instead of another. What the "reasonable liberal" objects to most of all is "doing things." For them it is only ever a game of words, of abstract symbols. And they lash out against anyone who shatters this delusion.

@Sanguis_Veteris @CovfefeAnon This story is something I file under ‘believe almost everything on twitter.’ You’ve probably explained before, but why stay pseudonymous? More people would believe with a name to the story.

@RichardHanania One more reason: even if AI becomes better than us at everything (it won’t, but bite the bullet for kicks), comparative advantage shows that we can still be useful to others

@SarahTheHaider Maybe Ben would say he’s talking about an implicit policy question in this (should an adult be free to do it) than the generic question of whether it’s good or bad in the first place

@prestonjbyrne Wtf is sensitive federal data? It’s public spending, crowdsource the raw data, and the AI’s suggestions, and what the DOGE employees think of it.

@RepThomasMassie @mkibbe Obviously. Because most Rs are closer to Ds than to their own base. That's one reason we get continuous spending hikes even with nominal Rs in charge.

@L0m3z If the mutilation wasn’t always criminal, then we know what laws to change. To the extent it was always criminal, some people should be locked up. In both cases, there’s no excuse for delay.

@lafaive @GovWhitmer I was at a public health conference in Whitmer’s first term and couldn’t believe the cheering when her top doctor took aim at vaping and played up their efforts to ban it

@SaysSimulation Right. Once again, I’m wondering if “against subsidies” works as the best distillation of my views.

@CorieWhalen People whose complaint is the size of government shouldn’t be complaining about the size of the debt. The problem is the spending.
