At the time I did not know the nature of the situation (“law enforcement incident” why the road was closed at first). With more info, yes, it looks very bad in hindsight; it’s a good opportunity for learning and being more careful with wording, particularly with that phrase.

Hi Dr. Gausman! I am curious where this information came from. Everything I see points toward a 3 PM start for the Wind Chill Warning in Sioux City and wind chills have already hit -25 degrees.
Today marks my one year anniversary here at WOWT. I am so happy to be here in Omaha and grateful that you trust me with the latest weather forecast and traffic updates. Thanks for tuning in and starting your day with me!
Just in case you were wondering why I-29 was closed between Council Bluffs and Loveland: here's what it looks like this morning on I-29 near Honey Creek...
Still can’t believe that this bright light of a person is no longer with us. I will be forever grateful for the shows we did together, all of the fun times and your great friendship
@JennyLenziniTV
. Please keep her family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.
Today marks four years that I have been at Siouxland’s News Channel. Amazing that it’s already IV years! Thank you for letting me into your homes through the past IIII years and I hope you will continue to start your day with myself and the News 4 Today team!
The organist at the CWS,
@JohnBenedeck
, is crushing it. Catcher comes out to talk with the pitcher and he plays “Careless Whisper”. Team meeting on the mound and he plays the Friends theme. Great stuff!
In case you missed the announcement yesterday on News 4 Today: After five and a half years, my time in Sioux City will be coming to an end. I have accepted a job at
@WOWT6News
in Omaha covering weather and traffic and I will be moving there at the beginning of May.
I grew up in a town of 650 people and it was always a huge deal whenever the local tv stations came to the area. Speaking to a group today in Cherokee was a reminder of how grateful I am to be able to return the favor and of the opportunities this job gives me.
You may have had your phone go off and this may be the reason why. These warnings are to warn of very hazardous travel conditions; think of it sort of like a winter version of a severe tstorm warning. You want to avoid traveling when a Snow Squall Warning is in place!
SNOW SQUALL WARNING until 5pm for much of east and northeast Nebraska. Very heavy snow with strong winds producing white-out conditions are expected as this band of snow moves through the area. Dangerous travel conditions are expected through the evening drive.
I was blessed with one more great sendoff. Thanks to the many wonderful people I have worked with over the past 5+ years at the station and thank you Siouxland. It has been a pleasure to serve you.
Crash involving several vehicles being reported on eastbound I-80 just west of York. It's no wonder based off of what the NDOT cameras look like in that area.
In the last half hour, you may have heard me run into the on-set Christmas tree with ornaments falling, hitting the floor and rolling across the studio. How
@ClaireKTIV4
kept a straight face I will never know. In related news, I have refilled my coffee.
ANNOUNCEMENT: beginning at the end of the week I will be joining
@AlJoensKTIV4
and
@MichelleKTIV4
as the morning meteorologist! I am extremely excited for this opportunity and cannot wait to help people prepare for the day and have some fun along the way!
My upcoming move to the morning show means this past weekend was my last official one on the weekend team. We give each other a hard time but are always there for each other. I will miss consistently doing shows with these two great friends.

Like with most things, there are pros and cons to working from home. One of the good things is that I can wear this green tie without the green screen causing problems!
This is actually not rain; smoke from a large fire between Macy and Lyons is showing up on radar. Highway 51 west of Decatur has been closed in both directions because of the fire.
Skies may be clearing in Sioux City but you can see the tops of thunderstorms that are still ongoing near Manson, around 100 miles away!

FIRST ALERT: The storms after 4 PM today will be capable of large hail (perhaps exceeding golf ball-size), gusty winds over 60 mph and a tornado or two. If you have plans this evening, be prepared to seek shelter and have multiple ways to get warnings.
Happy to wear purple today in support of increasing representation of women in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Progress has been made but there is still room to grow!

I am over the moon to wake up this morning and see that both the men and women Cyclones basketball teams have advanced to the Sweet Sixteen. So proud of them and I had to represent!
Well, that's one of the highest weed pollen numbers I have seen since I moved here. Likely will not be helped by the gusty winds today and tomorrow either. Grass pollen says hello too.
6 FIRST ALERT: Our first snow of the season is on track to arrive later today. Amounts will be pretty light (many under an inch) by the time it wraps up late tonight. However, roads could become slick during this heavy travel weekend.
Rooting on the
@OMAStormChasers
while also scouting out future players for my favorite MLB team. Hoping for a wonderful game on a great evening for baseball!
I had a lot of fun showing McFlurry at the Iowa Governor’s Charity Steer Show on Saturday in Ames. Many thanks to the Maass family for letting me show their steer. Very happy to know that over 254 thousand dollars were raised to help the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Iowa!
Severe weather is not expected today but, when it does arrive, you will want to have a plan ready. The

today in their shelter from hazardous weather. I practiced my plan last night!
It’s Corn Chasers Night at the ballpark and there are various corn-themed promotions going on, including at the concessions. This is an elote dog, a hot dog with a Mexican street corn topping. Pretty solid!
Happy to sport some purple today for
#DressForSTEM
. The hope is to encourage girls to pursue careers in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math.
Seeing some nice color showing up in the trees off to the side of I-680 near Highway 75. Looks like a pretty good weekend to take in the leaves through the area!
Good news: the fire appears to be out on that semi.
Bad news: the traffic is backed up quite a ways on westbound I-80 between Ashland and Waverly.
Still best to avoid this area for the time being and take Highway 6 until things can clear out some.
You might have missed me last week or today! That’s because I had the wonderful opportunity to remotely fill in for our sister station, KTIV, in Sioux City! I’m grateful that this station and company gives us opportunities like these.
Winter weather will be pushing into Siouxland overnight into Thursday. Some districts may have to weigh whether to take a snow day. Tonight on
@ktivnews
hear from one superintendent about the factors that go into the decision of whether to close their Nebraska school district.
The air quality has already dropped in the metro here as the front moves in. Those with heart or lung conditions, older individuals or children will likely want to limit time outdoors; very possible that we see thing deteriorate further over the next few hours.
A nasty sinus infection/illness knocked me down over the past few days but after a doctor’s visit and rest, I am back up again this morning. Cue up the Chumbawumba; you ain’t ever gonna keep me down!
THERE ARE ONLY SO MANY TIMES I CAN SAY “TREAT INTERSECTIONS WITH TRAFFIC SIGNALS THAT AREN’T WORKING AS ALL-WAY STOPS”; MAYBE IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE IF I CAPITALIZE THE WHOLE THING?
It was a terrific day to be out and about! My brother came to visit this weekend and today we explored some of the area. We were able to take in some beautiful views.
Wow! Check out the fiery sunrise on our Lake View cam this morning! If you get a good picture of the sunrise this morning, feel free to share it with us by sending it to connect

Just watched the eclipse in English, IN with
@SamGabrielliwx
. We were dodging clouds and had some over it during peak totality, but we still got a good view of it near-totality. Streetlights came on, birds were chirping like it was dawn - it was really cool!
Isn't this a gorgeous view of the new day over I-80? Traffic starting to pick up, I'll give you a First Alert if we start seeing any problems this morning.
Here is the fella I encountered on the way in from the weather patio the first time this morning. We just about had outdoor weather for the rest of the show!
Huge shoutout to

who are covering their own duties AND eastern Nebraska/southwestern Iowa right now. A breached levee forced

to evacuate; hope you are all safe!

How is your car looking this morning? Chances are that it looks like you went off-roading. Once again, this is a result of yesterday's storm system. It caused a dust storm in Kansas, then picked up some of that dust and dirt and brought it down in the storms across the Midwest!
