Really feel this is the key bit from Murdoch’s perspective: Arms length deniability of illegality. If the News of the World had “one rogue reporter”, the Sun had several rogue private investigators. And claims the Sun hacked phones will probably never be tested again at trial.

@captainstaino No that's a total misreading of this, I'm afraid. There's a good chance he'd have almost certainly got a large financial settlement out of the papers either way given what they've now admitted to. By doing a deal he has avoided paying their truly enormous legal costs, however.

@seaninsound @arusbridger That's up to the police and the CPS. Rebekah Brooks was cleared at a criminal trial of phone hacking. Harry has also clearly received a type of 'justice' through the civil courts.
