I'm a thinker, not a fame seeker. I'm a progressive, or what is more, a radical humanist. I don't pay attention to titles, I pay attention to intellectual substance. And though I love theory, I recognize its abstract limits. Knowledge, as privilege, means social responsibility.

@MsKellyMHayes These kind of people are actually hiding pathology behind their humor. This is a form of passive-aggressiveness. They don't respect people enough to treat them with respect, they think they are above and beyond everyone else. These people presuppose their own superiority.

This is where we find the real anti-democratic line in the world: geopolitical subterfuge. In Nazi Germany it was direct propaganda, in our time it’s covert misinformation, geopolitical sabotage, the sowing of discord, chaos, confusion.

No one has a problem with Christians wanting to live their life in self-sacrificial love for others. But this isn’t what Christians want to do, they want to judge, condemn, impose dogma, and persecute those who don’t share their belief. This is justificatory grounds for Atheism.

@economicthought I'm gonna speak plain, we have enough of these kind of books. More books like this isn't what we need. We need working models that allow us to survive and resist the power structures of capital.

Look at the class and maturity of this fella. I hastily criticized one of his threads this morning, interpreting it out of the broader context of his work and his reply was not to label me as "bad" or "stupid" but to strive for a dialectical fairness and respect. Exemplary.

@jersey_flight In fairness, I'm sure you've encountered anti-psychiatry twitter and some pretty rabidly extreme views. But that is not me. You'd know that if you've been following my threads here, but I realize that may not have been on your mind when you reacted to this particular thread.

Vulnerability may very well be the greatest psychological ability that humans have or can achieve.

Teach your children to be vulnerable! Openly, publicly vulnerable. This will make them stronger people, happier people, even smarter people.

The reason I stand against Anti-Psychiatry is because it's a Human Rights issue, psychiatry at its best, has to do with minimizing human suffering. We are talking about standing up for some of the most vulnerable people on the planet, people who often cannot advocate for themselves

This is the BEST thread I’ve seen documenting Covid and its impact on the brain. 👇👇

COVID + THE BRAIN 🧠 There’s been a flurry of new studies published in recent weeks about Covid’s detrimental impact on the brain. This is the aspect of Covid which concerns me most, but which many people seem to be blissfully unaware of. So let’s dig into what we know… 🧵

@Inadarkwood I love the presuppositions of humanity here so much, they are my own, but I think there's a cynical reality that needs to be accepted: the deck is severely stacked against disabled people and will be until human value structures have altered. This is not civil, fair or intelligent

If the Anti-Psychiatry position was to apply its skepticism to pharmacology in general, what would be left? I mean, what's the end game here? Very hard to see how this, anti-biological, anti-science position, comprises a logic for the future? It's a regressive narrative.

@EnemyInAState It really is just a matter of time before people realize how serious it is. We will see masking again, but not until many more people have died and gotten sick. Slow learners have to touch the burner to know it’s hot.

powerlessness, a psychology that assumes all negativity is the outcome of personal Agency. In this view one’s theory becomes a false idealism. Sometimes the best that psychology can do is mourn with (not blame!) the victim of irrational and inhumane circumstances.

@jonathanstea I have started reaching out to the mental health community on social media platforms to warn them that the cult of Anti-psychiatry 1) completely denies their involuntary suffering and 2) is seeking to defund all their supports and 3) blames them for their condition.

@JonathanShedler Yes, I agree that it has Jonathan, but psychology has a limit that moves it in a different direction, away from the individual & towards the humane advocacy of better social systems. But we hardly ever see psychology (gists) doing this. Agency can become a dogma, is, in our time.

wear these gloves because it “violated their freedom.” Many such stupid monkeys fell from the trees and died. Some of them died simply because they didn’t like the way the gloves made their hands look. (Like we said, these were very stupid monkeys). However, eventually…

Once we come together we strategize going to school board meetings & city council meetings, masked and armed with scientific evidence. We respectfully, but with passion, advocate for mask mandates & clean air in the name of health and life. Covid deniers must not make the rules.
