$spy includes dividends as an etf. $spx is the cash value of the 500 stocks at given moment in time. So for historical charts, use the $spx. For short time periods, they are basically same.

I like the ISS Detector app. Very accurate. Saw the ISS this Wednesday. Glorious and bright. The app tells how bright it will be.
It was -4.7 on Wed. Brightest I've ever seen it.

live through a market of 2008-2009 where you weren't sure the financial system itself would survive. I'm old enough to have lived through both 2000 and 2008 bears. It is not fun at all. Better know how to defend yourself when those kind of bears mkts come again.

More traders need to pay more attention at weekly MAs. In volatile mkts, they catch support at 20, 50 or 200 wk MAs. And reverse is true when they break them, they becomes resistance. Spx in 2008 bear was a good example. Rejected at 20 wk on bounces, green line.

some up stocks on very red day $GE, $IBM, $KO, $T, $XOM..see a pattern, the old guard of the Dow30? rotations don't happen in a day but over months/years. I'm long all of these. Like the tide turning in the ocean..hard to see at first...but eventually it does.

21 yrs to the day, Mar 24, 2000 nasdaq finally gave it up with one last try for an all time high. And the bear took over. Not surprisingly, the 2nd failure of 9/20 cross marked the end. After the initial drop, it tried to get back to 50 day MA on Apr 10. Last chance to get out.

Wanted to point out a pattern I often see, its called the "Rising Three Methods, but i often see it with two instead of three candles. Big up candle, 2 or 3 inside candles taking it back to near bottom of 1st candle, then big green candle and away it goes

Scott, i love moving average systems because of their objectivity. Everyone says "follow price" and that is exactly what MAs do! No subjectivity. Just price. If something is bullish, it should be above the key MAs. Period. If not, consider it just a speculation trade.

i thought $tsla should have bounced at $150 after a straight down decline from $200. now at $110, it's bounce (yes its coming) will bring it back to $165 (200 wk MA) before the next selling wave brings to $75.. rinse, repeat...

Not complaining... but dad died on Mon then Tues my cars electrical system failed after the funeral, major after warranty repairs. $$$
And today, driving home with rental car, a large metal chunk just missed us from the road above.

Look what held up today. The old names, $ge, $ibm, $gt, $aa, $ba, $jpm, $khc, $ko, $mmm, $t. All names I've been playing and recommending for months. Rotation in full swing out of large tech. Larry said it today. Takes time for large funds to accumulate / distribute.
