Everyone likes to talk about the 'six degrees of separation' when it comes to connections to famous people...
...but likes to ignore them when it comes to SARS2 chains of transmission.
We are all connected.
Until we remember this, we can't meaningfully protect anyone.

"Well, I've had COVID twice, you know, what does this do to me?"
Watch that penny drop... :/
Wait until most people in BC discover that your doctor won't post-COVID screen your heart, because they haven't explicitly been told to - they will wait for Sx.
Babies & other small humans can't tell us they have brain fog.
So, how will they communicate?
Via their behaviour.
And then adults will come online & complain about how kids are so horrible now, and they can't understand why.
Adults - we fucked over our kids' generation.
Today I learned that I have completely underestimated and misunderstood brain-fog post COVID - and it is terrifying.
In my mind I kind of had this impression that COVID brain-fog was just feeling a little bit forgetful or feeling very tired, and my god I was very, very wrong.

I mean, they're trying to survive a pandemic in which all of the adults responsible for keeping them safe have decided that it's too hard to do that, and to YOLO instead.
If people don't care about their lives and protecting them, why should they care about school?
Them: We really miss you; we want to be able to see you in person.
Also them: Here is a picture of us, maskless, at an indoor event with hundreds of other people.

A lot of people being critical saying it's hospital policy.
Sure. It's policy to wear a mask (baggy blue; look in BG).
She chose to wear a respirator, AND she kept it on for photos.
If she can do it, I need to understand why adults working daily with/around at-risk kids can't.

It's hard to word this in a positive way, so I'm going to be blunt.
For the past 4yrs, with your actions, you have told Govt, school districts, Public Health, that you're ok with your kids getting sick at school repeatedly.
They won't protect your kids from mpox.
Imagine today’s child in 30 years realizing their:
parents let them get infected with a novel virus for their “mental health”
doctors let them get infected with a novel virus for their “mental health”
schools let them get infected with a novel virus for their “mental health”+
Dear politicians, other presenters, etc.
You can present while masked.
This presenter is clearly audible.
No one needs to see your teeth while you speak into microphones.
Should children and young people living with Long Covid now be classed as clinically vulnerable?
We know from support group experiences and research that reinfection with any virus can cause relapse of symptoms and a delayed return to baseline function.

Fucking hate that we live in a time where it's walking on eggshells to ask loved ones, suddenly sick with inexplicable vascular disease and with healthcare workers stumped and unable to pinpoint a cause, whether or not they're considering COVID as a potential instigator.🤬
@JEVLloyd
Horrifying. 😔
“curb a social life & certain pastimes for the benefit of that baby” IMO this applies to COVID, too-but lots of (most) parents not doing that either.
This is going to be really difficult to hear, but:
If you heard "Only vulnerable people need to worry", & dropped all protections while the pandemic continues to rage, then... you're saying the same thing as Trump here - w your actions.
(Unfortunately: you're vulnerable, too.)

26 years ago today, we said goodbye to the five year old I'd babysat for almost four yrs, since he was one.
26 years ago, Feb 1st, 1997, he, a kindergartener, died of Kawasaki Disease.
A treatable disease, but for him, it was too late.
He had five heart attacks.
He was five.+
We have to stop omitting the value of masking in schools.
Kids are supremely capable of masking, when taught how to; masking does not cause education or developmental delays. (1/)
Community, there is so much trauma in the “what do you want, for us to get back into lockdown?! Cause that isn’t happening.” That’s all reactive fear. No one has said that. I do wanna address what I do want:
-mandatory masking in hospitals, grocery stores, and airplanes
For those who have been asking, Vancouver Coastal Health did an extensive study of Covid transmission in public schools from Sept to Dec of 2020. The lead researcher says it shows there was little transmission and data has been submitted to a journal, awaiting final review.
Govt of Canada:
Make it hard to get Novavax, so that you can claim that no one is seeking it, to justify not ordering it again.

Have been reflecting a bit this weekend.
I have asked a lot: why are so many doctors and teachers so uninformed with regard to SARS2.
We hear a lot that it's because they're busy. They don't have time to educate themselves, so they trust their representative bodies+
In British Columbia, if you are "lucky" enough to access a COVID test in the first place, and then you die of COVID on your second or subsequent infections, and/or beyond 30 days of testing positive, YOU ARE NOT COUNTED AS A COVID DEATH.
In other words:
Don't look, don't find.
@1goodtern
Because it’s easier to punch down than punch up, and to punch up, they need to face the fact that they’ve been conned.
Also: why is it ok for minimizers, YOLOers, etc, to shame people out of protections, but not ok for COVID-aware people to shame others into taking protections?

Fact: kids in Canada have been in school and daycare for most of the pandemic, many (too many) without SARS2 mitigations in place.
Next fact: RSV rates at this time last year were higher than they are currently.
I mean, if we're going to science honestly, let's start here?
4/ It’s like 3 years of kids all went to daycare at the same time. Is this impacting children’s hospitals and other hospitals - yes. Could previous COVID infections be impacting children’s immune systems- maybe- but we don’t know that.

It’s sad that people value going to restaurants over helping to protect their communities, but here we are. And if this is what it takes, then so be it.
But none of the things you listed are rights.
OTOH, everyone else has the literal right not to be infected by selfish people.
Nearly half of all passengers on 2 flights from China have tested positive for coronavirus, Italian officials say. All samples will be checked for possible new variants.
We actually DID have a choice:
We could use layered protections.
Source control: Test, Trace, Isolate, Support, Masking
Other NPIs: Improved ventilation and filtration of indoor air, better vaccines.
