Then you come to North America, and after all that chaos in Turkey, everything seems so calm and mellow and you are like “How is this a story? Why is this such a big deal?” To almost every “page one/top of the bulletin” story out there for 6 months.
After covering Turkey for a decade, it's nice to have the requisite background knowledge, but it's so hard to explain to editors why a given story is important/interesting, and I've lost all sense of what people who don't follow Turkey find interesting.

The earthquakes’ epicentre is Turkey. Death toll in Turkey alone is 16K+ so 5x more than Syria’s. Why do some outlets keep reporting on it as the Syria&Turkey quake and “bundle” the numbers? Syria is devastated and needs help too. But this feels like “an editorial decision”.
