@dogzrcoolnstuff @I_Know_A_Dude @gorskon Just admit that you don’t have a fucking clue what you’re talking about. You’re over your head.

@Skidd28925417 @Nature About as temporary as your businesses when the recession hits and wipes away every last penny you own.

@dogzrcoolnstuff The short term impact is massive unemployment. Unlikely to recover from that for at least a generation if at all

@dogzrcoolnstuff @I_Know_A_Dude @gorskon All private companies receive federal or state funding at some stage. Some more than others. Universities are not that different. And there are a number of private companies where you can do graduate level research as well.

@amitylee13 @biwah @MollyJongFast The US tax rate is well-below the tax rate of most other developed countries. And MOST of that is spent on the military.

@amitylee13 @MollyJongFast Sounds like your adult kids are incompetent. How is that the government’s fault? Sounds like a YOU problem to me

@JasonSynaptic It makes a great deal of economic sense if you look at it as intraclass conflict between two factions of the ruling class. Ask yourself who benefits from defunding public research.

@ahmed4free It’s a waste of energy and resources that would be better spent building independent working class institutions. Organize the class, not the vote.

@SadgeGrad @CinTyLeeEarth Well, to start with, the US is a global leader in science because basic research developed out of military industrial research, specifically nuclear. There is very little academic freedom in most STEM subfields as a result. Academic foci also coincide largely with VC interests

@Mar50cC5O @elonmusk Idiot. Overhead keeps the lights on in basic research facilities. They’re very expensive to run.

@CinTyLeeEarth Well for one you have a rather romantic notion of the historical development of STEM as a collective of multibillion dollar industies that is completely detached from the reality
