When I was 7 my father took me on a father-son trip to Italy to visit Pomeii, I thought it was okay at the time and only way later did I understand that he only took me there because my mother obviously wouldn't have let him go to Italy alone for a week.
Parents who take kids, let's say under 12 to archaeological sites are just attention seekers who want to believe they're amazing parents. The kids don't want to be there, find it dull and it just ruins the experience for the rest of us.
