Know what I hear when I hear the screaming about Critical Race Theory? (Which is an academic research lens and not a curriculum.) I hear “your kids stories don’t matter, Holly, and neither do they.” Can’t go making people take an honest look at our history, now can we?
Utah school board member Natalie Cline questioned a high school athlete’s gender.
The girl's school district is now providing extra security for her because of the firestorm that has followed.
I have been coming to conventions for 22 years. This is the worst I’ve ever seen. Anger, contempt, lack of decorum. I’ve sat near some first-time delegates who are shocked and dismayed. They probably won’t run again and I don’t blame them.

We have 8 people living at home. We are fully vaxxed except the 6 yo. In the last ten days, 6 of us have tested positive for
#COVID19
, including the six-year old. Only two not confirmed positive are the two we haven’t tested. Delta variant exposure time is ONE SECOND
A new record. The Utah legislature made me cry (sad and angry tears) on Day 2 at their efforts to strip DEI from Utah universities, K-12 & Utah's governmental entities. They do it with nice words about equality, opportunity & getting rid of racism. But the bill doesn't do that.
The GOP convention is no longer a family friendly environment. I’m mortified by the vulgarity and viciousness my young nieces were exposed to by another gubernatorial campaign’s supporters. It’s embarrassing, sad, and clearly no longer for kids.
Here's some political news: I'm hearing rumors that
@RepJohnCurtis
is preparing to get in the Senate race - that would make things pretty interesting!

July has really been something for us. Our son stayed 9 days in the hospital with post-surgical complications and is home with a trach and feeding tube for 3 more weeks. Today, I got diagnosed with COVID. I’m his primary caregiver 😩 (we are fully vaxxed)
Remember that article I wrote about "colorblindness" being a bad thing when it comes to race and then I was told I was racist for seeing race? Yeah. About that.....
"To pretend that race is unimportant by saying 'I don’t see race' or to falsely diminish the impacts of racism on the lives of Heavenly Father’s children does nothing to stop racism."

A personal update: our son Josh had surgery last Monday. What was supposed to be a relatively straight-forward surgery …. wasn’t. He ended up with a trach and a feeding tube. The good news is we will likely bring him home this week. 🙏🏼 My RN background has been invaluable
5 years ago, I graduated from

with a Bachelor's degree in Communication (emphasis in Public Relations) at age 51. Time flies.....Now I have a Master's and am all-but-dissertation on a PhD. That's crazy.

I kept wanting to post an after-the-fact update but my fun is still ongoing. I ended up in ICU after a lights-and-sirens ambulance ride on Sat. night. Apparently I have two bleeding ulcers. I’ve named them “Donald Trump” and

- and they almost killed me. Now binging HGTV.
At the
@UtahGOP
convention - just for fun! If you’ve never been, it’s a combination of a tent revival, high pressure used car salesmen and carnival barkers.
I used this video today in my Sunday School lesson. Love is not always spoken here. Utah is seeing racism in schools, in our communities, our churches and even our temples. It stops here. It stops now. It stops with me.
As I wrote this, the imagery in my mind is of Christ, the ultimate stone catcher. The stones thrown at Him - that we've thrown at Him - left marks in His hands and feet and side. There will always be stone throwers. Always.
Will you be a stone catcher?
Jim Jordan is calling for unity after failing to secure the Speakership.
“We must stop attacking each other and come together. There’s too much at stake. Let’s get back to working on the crisis at the southern border, inflation, and helping Israel."

PhDs are hard. They take a ton of work. And it’s to be expected that she would want to be addressed as Dr. I know I will want to be when I am done.
When the verdicts were read, I burst into tears. Just over a year ago, it was my Black daughter who burst into tears, sobbing "Mom, they did it again! They did it again! They killed another Black man." Today, she knows that justice can be served and her life does matter.
Restoring faith in the justice system will take much more than one day. But today, America stands in solidarity. Justice is being served.

35 yrs ago today, Elizabeth Noelle Richardson was born. She changed our world, making us parents of a disabled child & opening our hearts to more.While she never really "progressed" past a 3-mo old level she blessed our lives in innumerable ways. She died just after her 17th bday
I love being a mom. But it's hard. And sometimes, Mother's Day is hard because I'm not like "all those" perfect moms we seem to hear about. I yell. I use farm words. But it's still worth it. Mamas, you are doing great and you are enough, just as you are.
Her research was not funded, she was demoted and then let go. She just won the Nobel prize for her mRNA research that was the foundation of COVID vaccines
Oh, do we have a story. Our daughter Kristiana and David were married on April 5, at the Utah State Capitol. Lt. Governor Deidre Henderson performed the ceremony. I WAS NOT there! I was with another daughter in labor with her first baby. 🥹 David is deploying for 6 months.
“When has a woman solved any problem ever?” and “U should be having babies. Sexist comments continue for women in politics. Can't we all agree that they have NO PLACE in political discourse?? (Or anywhere else!)

Absolutely humbled to be honored by the Utah Metropolitan Ballet on Saturday night. I never dreamed I would have a ballet choreographed in my honor. There were 4 of us honored and I am so touched to be in their company. What an amazing night with friends and family.
I am so, so excited about the new look for the

Barbara Walters’ 20/20 show on Romanian orphanages in December 1990 was responsible for me getting on a plane and heading to Romania a few weeks later, where I adopted the first two of our adopted children…..
It's been a bit of a wild ride this month, but almost dying gave me the reset I needed. I have hope again, and know I can find joy. I am also most grateful to still be here.

I don't get it. I really don't. He reflects zero of my values. 🤢 I guess it's really true what people say - I didn't leave the party, the party left me.
Wanna know a real tragedy? Someone hacked my account yesterday and in less than a minute had gotten in, changed my password and then deleted the entire thing. 13 years of Twitter history, thousands of followers, tens of thousands of tweets - poof. All gone.
@DavidBOstler
I just saw people defending his pressuring of multiple women into - ahem - "unsanctioned" activities that if it's done for the "greater good," then it's ok. He.Groomed.Women, then took advantage of them. I'm gonna go scream now.
COVID house update: the young'uns (even in their 20's) had relatively mild illnesses and are through it. Hubby and I (in our 50's) were hit a little harder. I am feeling better, but easily tired. Yesterday, I painted kitchen cupboards and today I took a 3-hour nap. 💤
Once, a salesman asked my husband if I had permission to buy something without him there. My husband’s response: “Why are you asking me? She can do whatever she wants.”
The salesman was surprised and said he’d never heard that answer before.
I didn’t buy anything.
Even though I was still too shaky to stand or to drive myself, after my own health scare, I knew I had to hear Melissa Inouye when she spoke at MWEG in March. What a profound gift she was to all of us, even in-perhaps especially in - her 'Sacred Struggle'.
Not that exciting of a picture but I’ve submitted my proposal for dissertation research to my committee. I’ll be working to convince them it’s solid next week.
What's a linear career path??? I created this visual for a class lecture/conversation I had this week. Like Steve Jobs said - you can only connect the dots looking back....it's been a fun ride - and I have years to go, I hope!

It's nice to see Republicans caring what's happening at the border. I mean, for 4 years, they didn't feel the need to visit and now they do. How about that. Maybe some change will actually happen. Because it needs to.
I love being a mom. It’s also hard. Being a mom has made me laugh and cry, has been soul-stretching and faith-building. It’s taught me the value of getting my own answers for me and my family and tuning out the voices telling me I’m doing it wrong. ❤️
I’ve neglected my personal account on this social media platform. I shall try to rectify. Last Monday, I left for Poland to try to do some good in the world.

I think it's the new common core. Somebody said it was bad, so talking points are repeated ad nauseam without any actual understanding of what it is they're supposedly opposed to. 🙄
