We have a shortage of actual physical gold & silver. Been going on for a few years, but accelerated for Gold since the "freezing" of Russian sovereign assets in 2022. Silver has been in a structural deficit for 5 consecutive years, and is close to a breaking point. The paper charade surrounding the suppression of the metals prices by the bullion banks is collapsing in front of our eyes. Historic times.

My theory is that Bessent saw the “real” holdings from confidential memos and ordered holdings to be topped up to match the official 8133 tonnes. That probably involves unwinding a lot of the leases as Lisa suggests. After that he can do an official audit, and then a revaluation and top up of the TGA. Whether he will start buying more going forward remains to be seen.
