Just got off the phone with an old friend. He got COVID Thursday, and is "glad that's over with."
He's flying to Toronto to visit family, tomorrow. He said "that'll be five days, like they advise".
He says he "feels a lot better, but throat sore and still coughing a lot".
Has anyone else experienced this? My very best friend, who I greatly respect, has decided he's "tired of COVID", and now refuses to speak of it, even in passing, to the point of hostility. He's the smartest fellow I know. The contradiction upsets me greatly.
Hi, I'm Greg. I live in Nova Scotia, Canada. I know that good N95 masking in all indoor places, reduces the number of deaths & disablings. I refuse to knowingly endanger myself or others whose vulnerabilities are unknown to me. What about you?
Hi. I’m Keith. I live in Canada and I refuse to accept that infections and reinfections are inevitable - I will continue do my utmost to break chains of transmission. What about you?
Hi, I'm Sue, & I'm a healthcare worker in Alberta.
I refuse to accept medically-illiterate bullshit from a KKKonvoy-sympathizing, fascist, unelected premier who doesn't know her arse from her elbow.

Just called Canadian Blood Services to make sure masking was required when donating blood. No mask requirement, because - "Covid's over", said the agent.
WTF,
@CanadasLifeline
??
@RaoulWinters
Right? He incorrectly thinks COVID is one-and-done; He incorrectly thinks NS's isolation period is 5 days; & he incorrectly thinks it's okay to get on a plane, still coughing & ill with COVID. He's a good guy, but he's been completely dis/mis-info'd by our Gov't.
"Don't talk about COVID!" This is an increasingly common refrain. HOW is anyone supposed to not talk about the most horrific, ongoing world event since WW2? Isn't that textbook clinical denial?
@DFisman
Yup, I've said this all along: Actuaries rigorously deal only with statistical realities. Higher premiums are coming, either through increases for those who are careless (i.e. not up to date on vax, repeat COVID infections), or through discounts for those who are responsible.
@kprather88
Your well-intentioned idealism clashes with reality. This mostly occurs in settings where bad policy exists, requiring the baggy blue (like in N.S. hospitals). There are only two alternatives: Wear baggy blue over N95, or wear ONLY baggy blue. The former is the lesser of evils.
Hospitals talk a lot about "respect" for their workers. Stern signage about it, everywhere. Why, then, is it acceptable for them to flagrantly disrespect patients by wearing near-zero-efficacy baggy blue surgical masks, instead of proper respirators? Disgusting hypocrisy.
Thank you for sharing your stories, and thank you for all the kind words, every one of you good folk.❤️
It's a comfort to know we still have community here, and that we're all in this together. Somewhere along the line, this has been totally forgotten by many.
U.S. average COVID deaths per day, right now, per million population, is 0.74. Nova Scotia's is 2.18. We're three times the U.S. average. Let that sink in.
So many Nova Scotians are shockingly COVID-ignorant right now.
Nova Scotia COVID deaths 2020: 65
Nova Scotia COVID deaths 2021: 46
Nova Scotia COVID deaths 2022 (so far): 461

You're mistaking mocking of the ridiculous situation for mocking of the infected.

has been a brilliant & tireless advocate for COVID-responsible change.
For 2.5 yrs, in dozens of internal PHAC risk briefings, they knew about the immune system damage; about the cardiac damage; about the brain damage; They knew it was a mass-disabling event.
But
@nsgov
hid that from you, and they still are.

Here's another anecdote: My wife & I haven't been sick with anything, since 2019. What we do: No discretionary indoor activities with crowds. 100% N95 masking, when required to share indoor air. Period.
@pcnbca
Liars. It's a penalty for allowing private companies to charge patients for medically necessary health services, contrary to the Canada Health Act.
ATTN: NOVA SCOTIANS
Please reply here with shout-outs to responsible Nova Scotia businesses of all types, that are masking-required. These are the businesses that deserve your support.

Tim Houston fired a qualified doctor and replaced them with a friend to lead Nova Scotia's healthcare system.
The outcomes of that decision are clear: the doctor waitlist has skyrocketed and ERs are over capacity.
72 COVID deaths announced in the last 4 weeks alone. Nova Scotia current 7-day avg daily COVID death rate more than DOUBLE USA rate & more than TRIPLE Canada's rate. GIVE HIM HELL!
Multiple Nova Scotians are dying from Covid every day.
@TimHoustonNS
- when will enough be enough? We know how to reduce transmission and save lives, we just need the political will.

Yes. A thousand times, yes! Required masking reduces infections by around half, keeping more workers on the job, reducing delays, backlogs, closures, & supply chain issues. It protects a fragile economy and, most importantly - it reduces deaths by around half, as well.
@CMA_Docs
You guys are really on the wrong side of this. Maybe you should do more responsible advocacy, yourselves, rather than picking mischaracterized, wrong-headed fights with those that do.
3 coup attempts in just over a year, in the 3 largest countries in the Americas, all caused and perpetrated by conservatives. Isn't it time we properly labelled conservatives as hate groups & terrorist organizations?
Just read someone's comment about feeling self-conscious being in the masking minority.
Reminder: Doing the right thing is caring & honourable. Be proud of yourself. Hold your head high.
@tjradcliffe
Yes. Yes. The determination to not accept an intentional human cull. Throwing a portion of the population under the bus like this, is macabre.
@jeffreyatucker
I have news for ya, brother. What's ruinous is you not masking in the first place. Those who've kept up with the actual science, know it's an ethical obligation; A matter of basic decency.
NB's COVID death rate "eclipsed the death rate of 47 of 50 U.S. states in 2022".
The corruption is beginning to be exposed. Well done,

The science, the data, all says your narrative is incorrect. Provincial govt's, across the country, knew that

&

, yet they cravenly withheld that information from the public. And it's still happening.
CALL TO ACTION:
Tim Houston's conservatives are gutting Nova Scotia, robbing us of healthcare, killing hundreds, disabling thousands, & selling our souls to corporate interests. It's time for URGENT, extraordinary actions. Legal, parliamentary & procedural scholars - suggestions?
This kind of irresponsible shit needs to stop.
Whether or not they have a fever, if your child is ill at all, with anything contagious, don't send them to school to infect others.
Don't be a shitty human being.
When deciding if your child is too unwell to go to school, one of the key symptoms to look out for is a temperature of 38°C or above.

I am surprised at this: For all your great educating about COVID & airborne transmission, only 2 of your staff are wearing a mask that does anything.
There are MANY COVID-responsible folks. Probably 25%, with another 40% who will adopt good practice if encouraged by gov't. But responsible folks tend to be less disruptive.
@nsgov
relies on this. We need to be LOUDER, MORE disruptive, more of a PR threat. How can we do this?
The

pics & retweets are glorious. The trolls are a mixture of genuine ignorance & cold-hearted indifference. It's *really hard* not to wish a very scary low oxygen saturation episode, on all of them.
@BevPR
In my friend's case, he's not at all aligned with anti-mask or anti-vaxxers. He's been consistently well-informed, until lately. He's just adopted this irrational position in the last few mths. I guess it's COVID-fatigue. "The population has decided COVID is over, so it's over."
It's *shocking* that Nova Scotians have to consider whether or not their emergency hospital experience would be more dangerous than their health emergency itself. Read that again.
@healthns
Responsible Nova Scotian grownups will relentlessly advocate for the elderly & the immuno-compromised, because they ARE NOT DISPOSABLE, and I will block every single selfish COVID denier/minimizer, along the way.

1 in every 133 Nova Scotians has infectious COVID, right now.
In the last 4 weeks alone, there have been 33 COVID deaths announced.
The next 3 months are the worst part of respiratory virus season.
