In light of weather conditions, @IFAmedia is seeking: - Milk processors to pay a hardship top-up of at least 3c/litre; - The Department to fast-track payments to farmers; - Suspension of all farm inspections; and - Banks/credit unions to offer maximum flexibility to farmers.

For thousands of years, Burren farmers have marked the end of summer by herding their cattle onto ‘winterage’ pastures in the limestone uplands where they spend the winter grazing. I was delighted to join the people of North Clare today for this unique and intriguing experience.

The news of stocking rate limits in derogation being cut from 250kg/ha to 220kg/ha is a blow to the whole sector across all commodities. This emphasises that the government no longer backs farmers and I urge you to attend your local meetings coming up & air your frustrations

The sowing of catch crops is a practice that farmers have adopted in a huge way in the past number of years. However, it will no longer be adopted if there is not a workable solution found by the department to address the issue of a 50% grass layback requirement.

At #Ploughing2023 today, I told @McConalogue that his Department must extend the slurry spreading date beyond September 30th due to poor ground conditions across the country, and I impressed upon him the need to get payments out ASAP and to revisit the nitrates derogation.

Farmers have been told no further cleared applicants will be paid until Dec 1. It's an unacceptable intrusion into the routine running of farmers' businesses with commitments to be met & shatters confidence in @agriculture_ie 's ability to administer schemes & pay farmers on time.

The message from the farmers of Donegal is clear. They have lost faith in IFA and the manner which the organisation is representing them. While there is a lot of goodwill towards IFA, only strong leadership and delivery for farmers will restore faith in the organisation.

After an excellent show in Virginia yesterday, with fantastic stock on show, I think about how the fresh milk farmers supplying milk all year round to Tirlán and Diageo amongst others are struggling in a year with poor milk price and incredibly high input costs.
