What is more commonly known as ‘Carol of the Bells’ was originally a Ukrainian folk chant welcoming the New Year called ‘Shchedryk’. It was arranged by Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych in 1916. Here it is performed by Helena Androsova. (1/3)

The song is a story of a swallow flying into a household to sing about wealth that will come in spring time. Now more poignant than ever, I hope it carries hope that the war in Ukraine is nearing its end. Слава Україні 🇺🇦 (3/3)
It was intended to be sung a capella by a four-voiced choir. In 1921, the Ukrainian National Chorus sang the song in the US, to a sold-out audience at Carnegie Hall. Later, Peter J. Wilhousky rearranged the melody for orchestra and wrote the new lyrics in English. (2/3)
Grieve predicts post Brexit Britain will resemble Britain of his childhood - "a stagnating country, slowly declining with an inability to compete, unable to make ends meet and becoming rather tatty."

This is a fascinating read on Germany’s response to the 2015 refugee crisis. Five years on, more than half of them work and pay taxes, 10,000 are studying at German universities. Over 80% of refugee children and teenagers say they have a strong sense of belonging.
🚨 PERSONAL NEWS THREAD. After 18 months of heading Times Radio’s flagship politics programme, I’m moving on. It’s been an enormous privilege to get to build G&T, and then T&G, from scratch and work alongside the titan of political journalism

Lots of FAKE NEWS reporters at the RNC this week.
This reporter from The Times of London is one of many responsible for causing such deep division and hatred.
They lie. They twist our words. They demonize us.

Brexit Britain, day 1. I just got a text from my sister, she’s at Stansted airport on her way back from a work trip to Cologne. E-gates are closed for EU nationals, she had to join a long queue and be checked by the border force officer.
Lee told him I was in fact the producer of the show and that he was a Tory MP himself…Needless to say, the guy was visibly embarrassed but still gave me his card… His MP boss never made it to air and is just as irrelevant now as he was then.

New York Stock exchange was founded in 1792, when women couldn't vote, own a property or even write their own wills. 226 years later, Stacey Cunningham is to become its first woman president. This is amazing news, but my god have we got a long way to go.
