As an assistant referee, going through training an coaching, we were taught if it the offside was unclear to give advantage to the attacking team, as the game is about scoring goals
VAR has completely flipped this on its head. Now they are looking for thr most tiny infringement
@AyeshaASiddiqi
Weird in some cultures that the only purpose to going to a bar is get drunk and socialise.
In Ireland and the UK, quite acceptable to go to the pub with a book, or a newspaper, and while away an hour or two, reading or doing a crossword with a pint and a sandwhich
If France were seeing the public sector cuts we're seeing in NZ, there'd probably be massive protests and nigh on general strike.
But Kiwis are like "oh well, survive to 25" and "at least we're starting to see green shoots"
What is the cause of kiwi reluctance for activism?
Anybody else here in Aotearoa remember us struggling to keep the lights on because Labour had stopped new oil and gas exploration...
No... me neither...
Labour’s energy policy is a mess. Their proposal to ban new oil and gas licenses was tried in New Zealand.
They struggled to keep the lights on and have now had to reverse it.
Climate policy can’t come at the cost of our energy security or it will fail.
Does anyone else feel that cancelling a whole load of work without alternatives proposed, and repealing legislation under urgency with no select committee reviews or impact assessment reports seems helluva reckless?!?!
Whats the odds the "independent" review of Kainga Ora comes out and recommends selling off Kainga Ora's housing stock assets to address it's increasing debt and operating deficit?
In nearly 20 years since I moved to NZ, I have never spoken to anyone that moved here that said their reason for moving was its income tax rates. People come here because of lifestyle, quality of life, opportunities for them and their families.. not how much tax they pay
Chris Bishop: "They (Kainga Ora) are not efficient at building the social housing we need"
Yet just 3 months ago - Jennian Homes, Mitre 10 and others were praising Kainga Ora's Project Velocity
Does the Gov demanding minimising WFH, realise a lot of Depts and Agencies have downsized office space as a cost reduction, and there's no longer thr room for all staff to be in the office at the same time
Scottish Gaelic has far less exposure in day to day life in Scotland than Te Rēo does in NZ life.
Yet in many parts of Scotland there are bi-lingual road signs.
Take some pride in your country, culture and heritage NZ, FFS.
@mrjamesob
Julian Jessop from IEA, lengthy air time on BBC Politics Live today, only mentioned by host once in intro he was from IEA, caption that would come up occasionally just said “Economist”
He was very dismissive of any suggestion that this budget is trickle down economics
National: We'll spend $1.25Bn on Transmission Gully to make it easier for Kapiti residents to commute to Wellington
National MP: Kapiti is too far for me to commute, so I'll take the $35K py entitlement I'm entitled to to live in my flat (that I own) in Wellington
Imagine living in Kapiti, a 45min drive down a brand new motorway, & claiming it’s too far to commute, so the tax payer has to fund 40K per yr to pay your Wellington flat mortgage.These guys bash beneficiaries for a measley few bucks while rorting the system for themselves

Quite the milestone.
Have been sober 2 years today!
It was a change in lifestyle I needed to make, I was on the start of a slippy slope, dealing with trauma in a not healthy way.
Probably wouldn't have been able to do the healing I have done so far, if I'd still be drinking
Quite a milestone for me today.
6 months off the booze.
Events last year werent so good for me. I eventually recognised my relationship with alcohol had deteriorated, unhealthily using it to deal with stuff. It was feeding my anxiety, not good for MH.
In a much better place now.
Blanket restrictions forced on communities from Wellington didn’t just make it harder for people to get where they wanted quickly and safely, they drained the joy from life as people were forced to follow rules they knew made no sense.
JFC
Just read that the Auckland Mayor referred to the Women's World Cup as the "FIFA Soccer thing" on live TV.
One of the two largest global sporting events this year, and he doesn't have a clue.
How embarrassing for NZ
(perhaps to be expected from a certain demographic)
@ReneDenfeld
See Fox News commentators always bringing up that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was previously a bar maid, as if it was something to be ashamed of. It just reeks of privilege, of never worked entry level/low pay service work, just to get by or help pay the bills
James Shaw to PM: "What specifics actions has his government taken to ensure a sustainable ceasefire"
Luxon: "We have joined with many companies calling for a sustainable ceasefire and will continue to do so"
Quite a milestone today. 1 year sober.
If someone told me 1y and 1 week ago, I’d be sober for a year, I would have never believed them, but a moments clarity after a not great weekend, knew booze wasn’t helping me.
After a year of sobriety and therapy, I’m in a better place.
Just remembered, I don't think I'd mentioned it here yet.
My employer cancelled my redundancy... very relieved.
A couple of other consultants had decided to move on, so there was work for me to pick up, and so wanted to keep me on after all.
Quite the roller coaster!
OMG. Hataitai Bakery, and institution of the suburb for 25 years and legendary weekend late night stop for a pie, have been given 1 months notice by thimeir new landlords.
So just seen a post in the blue place showing that Shane Reti owns shares in the Whangarei private hospital... no wonder he's not prioritising build of new public hospital there.
@katie_pai
"Why won't you let me appropriate your culture to help me justify my cause" whilst showing zero respect to that culture.
Absolutely gobsmacking
It's a little known fact that when Elvis Presley was drafted into the US army he went straight into the bomb disposal squad.
This was due to his knowledge of suspicious mines.
One on the things I picked up on in QT yesterday, is that Brooke Van Velden doesn't know the extent of the legislation she is proposing re 90 day trials, when questioned re unfair dismissal during the trial period. She said the employee could raise a PG, that will not be the case
Seriously... he told the S Korean delegation that S Korea was best known to Kiwis for K-Pop and TV shows??!
I couldn't name one K-Pop band, and I know of 1 S Korea TV show, The Squid Games.
What I'd just say to you is, great meeting with South Korean President Yoon. He was banging on about our relationship being built on some historical war we were apparently both in and I told him everything New Zealanders know about his country.

Focus on the positives...
This weekend marked 7 months sober.
I knew it was what I needed to do at the time for my mental health, also been beneficial to physical health
I know I wouldn't have made the progress I have done, if still drinking.
Can I get a hell yeah!?!
New ferries and port infrastructure too expensive at $3Bn on the main transport link between NZ's North and South islands, so can the project
Instead we'll spend over $2Bn on new roads and a tunnel linking Hataitai to the CBD in Wellington
TBH... if it means better services, better transport, better health and education, and the systemic issues that cause poverty that lead to crime are addressed.
I can afford and would happy to pay another $70 pw in tax, rather than get a $20 pw tax cut and see services slashed
The ability of a number of Kiwis to disclaim Te Ao and Te Reo Māori as “not my culture” is fascinating.
You’re a New Zealander, of course it’s your culture, as it’s an integral part of NZ culture. Pakeha and Māori are two sides of the “New Zealander” coin
Here's
@chrisluxonmp
back in August 2023 saying National wouldn't change workers' sick leave.
Will this be another of Luxon's broken promises to join the growing list that includes cancer drugs and First Home Grants?
FFS NZ news channels.. do some freaking research.. takes 2 mins to find out that the compulsory employer contribution in Oz is 11%
Also employer contributions are taxed at a flat 15%, rather than the marginal rate like in NZ
Most NZ employers contribute only 3%
Getting rather fed up of the endless gaslighting by the new gov on the economic state “left” by Labour.
credit rating agencies had strong confidence in Labours economic management.
Now this shower come in, lying through their teeth to justify ideological cuts to public spending
"Our plan can be responsibly delivered no matter how badly Labour leaves the books - We want to assure NZers today who are watching this, your tax relief is coming no matter how badly Labour wrecked the joint" - Nicola Willis
Whats the odds the "independent" review of Kainga Ora comes out and recommends selling off Kainga Ora's housing stock assets to address it's increasing debt and operating deficit?
Another milestone... 5 months off the booze.
If somebody told me a year ago, that in a years time I will have been off the bevvy for 5 months, I would never had believed them.
The last week or two have been a bit tough, easy to find comfort in drink with the news as it is.
@GuidoFawkes
FFS, the political allegory of 'knifing in the back' has been a metaphor for quite a while, I think you find the last time it was literal was with Brutus and Caeser!!
Day 1 of our new RW gov, and we've already made international headlines!
New Zealand smoking ban: Health experts criticise new government's shock reversal
@cjsbishop
@radionz
Chris… Seymour himself referred to his “old friends at Atlas” in his State of the Union address in 2021.
You’ve previously criticised Labour and the Greens for “lack of transparency”
Surely then you’d support journalists asking questions about where party funding comes from?
@NicolaWillisMP
Just like you did when National were last in Gov where you halved the Gov kiwisaver contribution, and started charging ECST on employer contributions?!?!?
Not sure that's "got our back" in terms of saving for our retirement!!
How long has Luxon been LOTO now?
In however months it's been, all I know about Nationals policies are..
1. Tax cuts (that are uncosted)
2. Roll back stuff Labour did.
Are they offering anything else?
Struggling to fill your family’s puku within your budget?
Here’s some handy tips from nutritionist Claire Turnbull for some cost-busting foods for your weekly shop.

SMH... unbelievable
Minister for Employment blaming a "recession inherited from the previous government" as the reason why they are cutting 1000s of public sector jobs.
Lies and utter tripe.
Surely making 1000s unemployed adds to the recession
How awesome would it be to have these in NZ… imagine the GP time it would free up.
Do a test, if you show up positive for one of them, phone the healthline for guidance rather than waiting (and paying) for a GP appointment
Today marks another year around the sun.
And another fairly significant milestone, it also marks 18 months sober.
I decision I'm glad I made. Feeling much better for doing so.
