Today we have released Dinosaur Planet by Rare for Nintendo 64. The development was halted and moved to the GameCube, where it was then released as Star Fox Adventures. Enjoy! (More info in this thread).

What an oddity! Today we've preserved the Nintendo Wii "Auto Erase Disc". This disc was used by authorized Nintendo repair stores to quickly wipe clean returned systems! A detailed list of instructions on operating the disc appear on the front of the case.
In mid 1996, Nintendo of America's product testing room had a plush of Sonic hanging by a noose from the ceiling. He is holding a sign, but the video is too low quality to see what it says. Another thing of interest is Kid Kirby appears on the product board, which was cancelled.
The latest video by
@Sora_Sakurai
finally shows off footage of the elusive "Dragon King: The Fighting Game!", a super early prototype of Super Smash Bros before they settled on using Nintendo characters!
Today we have released the source code to Wipeout by Psygnosis, a futuristic racing game set in 2052! It includes the source to both the original PSX game as well as it’s Windows port. Please note that it is currently unknown if these sources are fully buildable.
Fun fact: The games shown off by Nintendo at E3 2006 actually weren't running on a real Wii, despite showing the system. The boards were completely empty. (pic by watsugs) This means the playable builds of Super Mario Galaxy and Wii Sports were running on a modified GameCube!
We've preserved the infamous Mario Kart XXL, a tech demo created for the Game Boy Advance by Denaris Entertainment Software! It ended up getting pitched to Nintendo of Europe in order to showcase their dynamic and adjustable perspective view engine featuring dual playfields.
Nintendo won't be happy. More stuff leaked just now. Switch private keys and many documents. One document reveals the Switch's design in 2014 and it is eerily similar to that one hoax that was floating around and got traction years back.
Some extremely early footage of Super Mario RPG 2 (which became Paper Mario) was brought to our attention by
@PineappleCarl3
. It was sitting on YouTube for two years with only 26 views. We can finally see various new areas and know what the game was like during development!
Today we have preserved a cancelled Quake port for the GBA! It was originally being developed by
@RandalLinden
. If that name rings a bell, Linden is a veteran game developer best known for the creation of the BLEEM emulator as well as the groundbreaking SNES port of Doom!
We have a prototype Nintendo 64 cartridge of F-Zero X that contained data from an early build of Zelda 64 that used to be on the cartridge. We're estimating it's from Spaceworld 1997. We're going to look into this more. Of course everything will be released.
Ever wanted a point of view look at what a Nintendo developer in the 90s would see? Here's some Sony NEWS workstation applications titled "CAD-TOOL" and "3DCAD". These were created by SRD and found within the Gigaleak. Below are some files that were designed within these programs
Today we have released footage from Nintendo booths at E3 2006. For the first time, they are viewable without watermarks and in much nicer quality. There is also a lot of footage that was never published! Total runtime is 1 hour.
You can view them here:
Here's a prototype banner for Super Mario Odyssey that Nintendo accidently showed off in direct feed gameplay of Fire Emblem Warriors. Also included is the build date within the title (2017-05-08 15:01:11).
We've preserved a cancelled version of The Holy Bible for the Game Boy Advance, developed by Rainbow Missions and originally set to be published by Crave Entertainment! It came very close to a release, with even boxart being created. Unfortunately it never ended up releasing.
Super Paper Mario actually started out it's development on the GameCube. It was later moved to the Wii, but a demo for the GC was playable at Next Generation World Hobby Fair in Tokyo 2006. Here is some of the only surviving footage of it, taken by YouTube user GotenZ1.
Seems the eBay seller "j_and_a_toys" sold a few pre-production boxes from E3 2002. They include Super Mario Sunshine, Wario World, and Mario Party 4. Anyone know where these are now? Would be great to have some scans.
There's been a new Nintendo leak from the "Gigaleak lot" of files from last year. The leak contains source code to a Wii Service program (an upgraded version of GameCube Service Disc), and some documentation for various systems including the Nintendo Switch.
With the help of
@Akfamilyhome
we have secured a development Nintendo Switch system (EDEV) from a seller in Hong Kong. The unit is from around April 2016, making it the earliest Switch to be found so far, predating the retail release by almost a whole year.
This is a real Peach sign graphic that Nintendo created. The file goes unused in the "Peach's Castle" 2001 GameCube tech demo. It can be found within the data at /TEX/1_BI_STE.DTX. (Thanks to Yoshi2 for the discovery!)
Early design document from the planning stages of Donkey Kong gives us a very interesting look into what the game was like when they were using characters from Popeye. Sprites for Olive Oyl, Popeye, and Bluto are seen in the top left. (Scan thanks to Gaming Historian!)
Nintendo's Japanese job recruitment website contains a bunch of very interesting photos during the production of the Switch and it's games within it's pages. Thanks to
@TitoShroom
for letting me know about this. You can find the site here:
Super Mario 64 in the newly revealed Super Mario 3D All Stars appears to be built off of the Japan-only Shindou Edition. It appears so as Mario's "So long King Bowser" line was changed to "Bye-Bye!". This also means BLJ is patched.
Today we’ve preserved a near-final prototype of Mario Party 3 for the Nintendo 64! The first 5.4MB contains differences, and it has capabilities for debug message outputs. In addition, it also has an overdump for a prototype of Conker's Bad Fur Day! (Data starting at 0x2000000).
Now it's time for a crazy story. Four first party Nintendo 3DS development cartridges from Nintendo came up for sale on Yahoo Auctions. We ran out of funds, but in the last few seconds a good friend managed to save us just in time. The contents will be released once we have them.
In collaboration with
@Render_Archive
and user
@Nintoid
, we've preserved the long-awaited 1996 Nintendo Company Report! It contains many interesting things such as sales information, but most importantly, early renders and brand new screenshots of prototype software!
@Sora_Sakurai
"All Nintendo-related development materials and ROMs featured on this channel are used with Nintendo’s express permission"
This is huge 👀
Now for the insane part...One of the pages shows various screenshots from the currently missing "extended" 1995 Nintendo 64 B-roll. Why is this a big deal? It shows a never-before-seen look at Super Mario 64's mysterious ghost stage! Below is a gif to view each frame in action.
Early Super Mario Galaxy promotional artwork from 2006. These were given out in press kits from Nintendo. The artwork was also considered for box art during that time.
We've preserved a prototype of the Nintendo DS firmware! It was recovered from an X4 prototype unit and the menu notes it as being ver. 40820D. The unit itself contains an extremely low serial. Just about every aspect of this version is different from the retail release.
Pre-production orange and silver Nintendo DS running the Super Mario 64x4 demo at E3 2004. The game would release later in November that year as Super Mario 64 DS.
May 12, 2004; Los Angeles, CA, USA.
Documents submitted to the FCC from Nintendo are publicly accessible. There is a lot of interesting development hardware. Notice the 3DS with purple shell and the New 3DS with brighter buttons. There is also one with an NFC tag and an early Switch Lite in black.
Although rather short, here is some never before seen high quality footage of Nintendo's booth at E3 2001. Thanks to
@drcandland
for recording and sharing!
Today we have released a late prototype of SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom for the Nintendo GameCube. The disc dates this build as being just a few short days before the release, thus differences within are minimal (primarily the executable files).
Did anyone else notice the sounds at the end of the Nintendo Direct? Super Mario Sunshine was using coin sounds from Super Mario 64's 1995 demo build, and Super Mario Galaxy was using sounds from the E3 2006 demo. Nintendo, don't play with my heart like this.
In 2015, a Game Boy Advance game pitched to Nintendo by Denaris Software (by the name of Mario Kart XXL) was sold by eBay seller steem69 (aka steven78) for $600. If you're the person who bought this, please let me know!
The original coin sound from Super Mario 64's Spaceworld 1995 build has just been found within the Star Fox 64 source code inside the gigaleaks. The file is labelled coin.n.32.c4.aiff. Thanks to Kairamen for the discovery!
We have released the long awaited McDonald's Nintendo DS cartridge titled "eSMART 2.0" (not to be confused with the previously preserved eCDP). It was created with the purpose of training employees in Japanese McDonald's restaurants, and thus, they never made it to public hands.
We've preserved a Japanese store demo for New Super Mario Bros! Unlike the other demos for this game, it has no time limit and you are able to save your progress. This version was created in late 2009 for use with Nintendo DSi XL kiosks. Thanks to
@XX_750000
for sending this in!
Today we have released a French promotional DVD for the Nintendo GameCube! It contains high quality early footage and commercials for games such as: Luigis Mansion, Metroid Prime, Diddy Kong Racing 2 and more. Also included are some bonus features with an interview with Miyamoto.
A Nintendo leak happened AGAIN a few hours ago on 4chan. Pokemon Mystery, Famicom Disk System lotcheck, 3DS dev tools, and the SDK for the Nintendo IRIS. There are a bunch of images of the Famicom Disk System master disks from Nintendo's archives too!
We purchased this disc containing the build from a private game collector in Sweden. The file date lists the build as being from December 1st 2000. It seems to be quite a late build of the game which is great, but it will need some hacking to be fully playable to the end.
We have preserved an internal Nintendo employee safety video disc from 2004! The video was intended for NMI representatives and features Wario, as he assists the narrator in walking new hires through the safety precautions one must take when working with Nintendo retail products.
The Yoshi's Island 64 logo. It was the early name for Yoshi's Story and was used throughout early promo material leading up to the game's release. This specific file was sourced from a large lot of raw Nintendo promotional art assets...Consider it a teaser of things to come!
Nintendo partnered with Lodgenet in 1999 to create the Gateway 64 system that allowed guests to play N64 games in hotels. Today we're releasing the Gateway version of Zelda Ocarina of Time, compiled from iQue source.
Super Mario Sunshine trailer shown off at SpaceWorld 2001. This trailer is from a full year before the games release, and so many differences can be noted. Thanks to Xiartic for cleaning up the video. The video came from defunct site "GamerWeb" and is the best look at this build.
Here are two internal repair center discs for the Nintendo Wii. The disc on the left is usually referred to as the "Pink Fish" disc, and it's used for transferring licenses of VC games. This is the first time these have ever been scanned in this quality. Thanks to
@TheHoityDino
!
Note: The game will currently not run 100% perfectly on any emulator. Expect many graphical issues with shadows and lighting, and some slowdown. It should however, work perfectly fine with flashcarts.
Thanks to the efforts of
@tanks404
, we've preserved the Super Mario 64 Soundtrack Store Video VHS! As the label implies, it was used within stores to promote the then upcoming release of the Super Mario 64 soundtrack within Japan.
Here's a Super Mario Galaxy "Flight Team" sewing patch which was worn by crew (including Buzz Aldrin) during a promotional shoot for the game which consisted of bringing a giant Mario costume into a Zero-G plane. Thanks to Galaxy Master for the photo of the patch!
Have you seen me? A Japanese prototype for Animal Crossing: Wild World just sold during an online auction. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we were unable to secure it. If you were the top bidder and would like to get the contents backed up, our DMs are open!
The infamous 2D black box in SM64 DS had more to it than many think! In footage from E3 2004 it can briefly be seen. An island can also be seen above the castle. It is said that it was really a cannon that you’d shoot out of. However, the footage backing up this claim seems lost.
We've preserved another prototype of the Nintendo DS firmware! This one is ver 0.40615, and is much earlier than the one we released a few months back, missing various settings. Something fun to note is that there are blood type selection settings which never appeared in retail!
There was an obscure Japan-only cartridge for the Nintendo DS called "DSvision". It was a cartridge with a microSD which could be used to download files from a website containing manga, films, books, guides, etc. All for a fee.
A few days before Super Mario Galaxy's release date, a kiosk demo for the game was leaked. However, the files no longer exist online and finding a copy seems next to impossible as only one has ever been sold publicly. There is also both an American demo and a Japanese one.
35 years ago today, Super Mario Bros. was released for the Famicom. Nintendo has made an official website for both Super Mario Bros., and Super Mario Bros. 2 (The Lost Levels in the USA). The websites include many high quality versions of art seen in the manuals in the game!
Before the year comes to an end, we managed to preserve a localization prototype of Super Mario World! Dated the 25th of October, 1990 – a whole ten months before the game released in the US, it's no surprise that there are quite a few notable differences!
Today we’ve preserved a very special piece of software, a post release debug build of Mario Kart: Double Dash!! This build was used by Nintendo’s Research & Engineering Division. It’s dated roughly half a year after the retail game’s release, so it’s purpose is currently unknown.
Today we have released a demo build of Mario & Luigi: Dream Team for the Nintendo 3DS. It's identical to the demo which was shown at E3 2013, except for the graphic on the title which matches the eShop demo.
Link to the release:
We've preserved raw master files which were used during the printing of Metroid Prime's PAL manual! Filetypes include: .EPS, .TIF, and .QXD (QuarkXPress Document). These allow you to view every single screenshot and piece of artwork that was used in their original quality!
mfw I release a prototype that's over two decades old and the current right owners tell me to remove it and want to sue me lol. Had to pull the Glover N64 prototype. Gotta love companies who take dead IPs and then only release chopped up and edited protos. :)
PIKO Interactive is the worst kind of scum, destroying video game preservation with every IP they get their hands onto and ultimately never release, as well as send legal threats to those who dump and release prototype ROMs of the games they (claim to have) bought the rights to
Thanks once again to
@Voodooween
for allowing us to release this! It's a Wii U kiosk demo disc (CAT-I) for Super Smash Bros and Mario Party 10. Make sure to use a EUR system otherwise you may run into problems.
Link to the dump:
Here's the F-Zero X development cartridge which contains the Spaceworld 97 Zelda 64 data in the overdump. There doesn't appear to be much code or music, just graphics and maps. Zelda 64 data begins at 0x1000000 in hex.
Today we have released a prototype of The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time for the N64. Before you get too excited, it's a build from three days before the USA REV 0 release. There are minor differences in the audio, text, and gameplay.
Grab the ROM here:
I believe Nintendo actually stole the color palette for the emulator in the Super Mario Bros Game & Watch. It's exactly the same as a palette called "k0rn" which was made in 2000. The only differences is that pink was changed to stand out more, and the blacks were made darker.
Friendly reminder to backup your blue development Nintendo 64DD disks before it's too late! Magnetic media is at a much higher risk than cartridge games, and could die at any moment.
If you have any blue disks, let us know and we can assist!
Early Paper Mario Nintendo 64 concept art which was shown off in an Iwata Asks interview for Paper Mario: Sticker Star. The concept art was created by Naohiko Aoyama and finished on March 5th 1997, a whole three years before the game released.
If you bought a replacement emmc for your Nintendo Switch and have not yet used it yet, please do not. Contact us immediately. Sites such as Aliexpress, TaoBao, etc have been selling prototypes labelled as ODIN-eMMC. They're recycled from Nintendo and some contain prototype data.
New Nintendo leaks. This time around there is a full Pokemon Sun and Moon repo dating from 2014-2017, as well as files for the RVT-NDEV (a Wii development system). There are also three zips labelled as "ios-releases".
We've preserved three cancelled Nintendo Game Boy Advance games from Rival Dreams, a short-lived studio created by three employees at Acclaim! The titles are Sea Boy, Dark Eden, and even a (albeit very unfinished) port of Demon's Crest which was pitched to Capcom!
