Not enough SEOs implement testing as part of their strategy - to this date I still see people a year into a campaign - having not conducted any testing.
Testing an an ERP + good data modelling are a better way to approach SEO.

I've been auditing sites that were taken out by HCU, what I've seen is beyond disgusting - Reddit outranking sites with trash content, summaried AI with their content, scraped sites with plagiarized content outranking original creators etc. Google is seriously going down hill

HCU signals do not have a linear application. No 1 result will have the same level of evaluation as another. It creates SERP diversity based on assumed probability of improving "good clicks".

SEO stack has hack spam detection! The day we rolled it out it highlighted hack spam on my own audit site (which I'd been oblivious to as it was hidden hack spam).
Sure enough - site had been hacked.

Do not rely on canonical tags (self referencing).
Canonical tags are a DIRECTIVE - instructional, Google does not arbritarily follow URL preference - that's why Google can chose another canonical path over the one it finds.

Many sites hit by HCU 3 already had their fates set from earlier updates. My thesis is that HCU 1-2 collected more in respect of behavioural/click signals - HCU 3 was a seismic shift based on aggregated data cross earlier updates.

We encrypt the data, every site has data stored with a unique encryption key.
As per our data policies we cannot see a users GSC data.
There's nothing used that can be used to identify anything.

A majority of link spam is non penal. Spambrain specifically targets link spam and removes any equity it passes.
Link penalties are few and far apart now.
