Oppenheimer is sure to revive some debates about the end of WWII. Worth noting: Purple Heart medals awarded in Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf, War on Terror—all 370,000 since 1945—were manufactured for the anticipated invasion of Japan. We have 120,000 remaining.
Jennifer, this is totally inaccurate. The Maricopa County Attorney is totally independent of the Sheriff’s Office. Sincerely, the Maricopa County Clerk of the Superior Court
Only this crowd of clueless old white guys wold pick someone from Sheriff Joe's operation. I was saying no self-respecting lawyer would take the job of giving cover to GOP cowards. I was right.

It’s a heavy check in my view. I don’t think there’s any coming back from cutting someone’s pay and if you’re doing to do that I think you have to be prepared to lose him.
By rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement, President Biden indicates he’s more interested in the views of the citizens of Paris than in the jobs of the citizens of Pittsburgh. This agreement will do little to affect the climate and will harm the livelihoods of Americans.

G-grandfather born prior to parents marriage in Italy. They had more kids but he was ostracized and lived in an orphanage. One day a villager said: you’ll never overcome the stigma if you stay - come to America with me. He did. And took the man’s last name - my name - DeRose.
Took an interest in his daughter’s education, singing, and sports. Had the tough conversations. Responsive to his son’s cries for help. Children went on to practice law and work in show business. (Seen here taking his daughter on a perfectly ordinary college visit).
@chrishlad
Absolutely what I’d expect from someone who followed the conventional path from Ivy to financial sweatshop. Sounds like more of a way to justify how you wasted your 20’s than good advice.
I wrote a book about the WWII veterans who won the only successful rebellion on American soil since the Revolution. Many of whom came home early and in one piece because of Robert Oppenheimer.
You won’t believe this. A local government built a state of the art special events venue. It hemorrhaged cash year after year. But how? It was always booked when people called to rent it out. One guy who tried and failed multiple times grew suspicious. Who booked the venue on

I want to know on what grounds you are actively censoring a news report about potentially illegal corruption by the Democrat candidate for president. If you have evidence this is “disinformation,” disclose it immediately. Expect a formal inquiry from my office
Judge Barrett has an enormous advantage over those who have gone through these confirmation hearings before her - she doesn’t have to hide her reactions while committee members are speaking.

is completely wrong about what Abraham Lincoln did with his election year Supreme Court vacancy. Support whatever candidate you want - or any Supreme Court Justice. But Harris didn’t come close to getting this right. (Thread)

You just make stuff up and say it. Japan wasn’t going to surrender. We knew they weren’t going to surrender. And if they were so eager to surrender they’d have done it after Hiroshima. Right?
If reports are true that a pre-election vote is planned in the senate, then almost certainly every Republican vote has been accounted for, and neither Collins nor Murkowski are needed.
John Adams was invited to speak at the 50th Fourth of July celebration in Quincy. He was too old, too weak, to appear in person, and in fact would die that day, but offered one sentiment:
“Independence forever.”
Anything to add? he was asked.
“Not a word.”
@TheTJHelm
That’s kind of the point here - you’re not fighting Nazis. You’re hysterical because a woman touched you after your brain broke and you felt the need to insult her boyfriend. We couldn’t have defeated the Nazis with such sad facsimiles of men.
So regardless of your feelings on current events, Lincoln saw it as his responsibility to fill the supreme court vacancy before the end of his term. There is no reason to believe this was contingent on the outcome of the election. (End)

It seems like it should’ve been bigger news that India in 2018 erected a statue of one of the nation’s founders that’s four times the size of the Statue of Liberty.
Juan Catalan was jailed for a murder he didn’t commit and saved by a tenacious defense and an accidental appearance on Curb Your Enthusiasm. I wrote this to find out: Who really killed Martha? Why arrest Juan? What’s he up to now?
They said it couldn’t be done.
There was a pessimism in the air — one that’s lingered over our Commonwealth for too long.
Today, we proved them wrong.

Maybe the best advice I’ll be giving my kids. They’re better off in many ways to be raised by me at 42 rather than 10 or 20 years ago. But man, I think of how much I’m likely to miss having started so late, and it hurts.
Every year you “wait to have kids” is a year you won’t have with them when they are adults, and a year you won’t have with grandkids. Is your brunch life now really so cool as to miss out on that. Doubt it.
This would be a brilliant idea. Any company that wants to sell your student loan at a discount should be required to let you buy it for the same price.
Just got notice that my loan servicer is changing, which likely means that my loans were once again sold for pennies on the dollar. Can I "buy" my own loans at a similarly stupid discount and then "forgive" them?

$5.9 million today or $28.9 million in 25 annual installments starting in 11 years? Panned as a mistake (after all, who pays a player long after they retire?), with an understanding of compound interest it seems pretty savvy. Happy Bobby Bonilla Day to all those innumerate!
Americans in 1900 worked a thousand more hours a year for effectively a tenth of the pay. It may not be trendy to say, but you’re lucky to be living here right now.
American workers today spend around 2000 hours a year at work, while our 1900 counterparts worked 50% more.
Over the same period, real hourly wages have gone up 10-fold, and the inflation-adjusted price of leisure has dropped by more than half.
Tonight I announced that I’m preparing to run for president, because I believe we’re all called to make a difference. I believe in right vs. wrong – that wrong wins when we do nothing. Now is our time to raise our voices and get off the sidelines. Join me:

Concur with others who’ve said Buddy Holly. Dead at 22, he had already changed the course of music history. Probably the biggest influence on the Beatles and had a major impact on Elvis. I don’t think anyone could’ve done more with a little more time.
I walk my boys to school every morning. On the way home, without fail, someone asks why I’m pushing an empty stroller. Genuinely confused. This is your competition. Go out and play like a champion today. It will work out.
Wild to think that Clarence Thomas is the longest serving justice. Brennan was the longest serving member when Thomas joined the court (appointed by Eisenhower in 1956).

Americans spend 6.5 billion hours and $260 billion complying with the tax code every year - an insane amount of time and money wasted, and unique among nations.
World War I began today in 1914. Utterly pointless, entirely preventable, the deadliest and most destructive conflict to that point, and the catalyst for nearly every awful thing that followed. It generated what I consider the greatest work of history, The Guns of August.
The Arizona Daily Star told its readers exactly how to find a judge’s home. The information had zero value except to help people locate his address. At minimum this is immoral, irresponsible, and a gross violation of their platform.

Lincoln nominated Chase on December 6, 1864 after the election and before his second term began in March. There is no indication - none whatsoever - that Lincoln would have left this decision to McClellan if the election had gone differently. (7)
Every time there's a layoff announcement, I can't help but think one thing:
As much as you want to believe otherwise after working that 80 hour week, your relationship with your employer is one sided
It’s cool how many of these 80’s stars are getting a boost reprising their earlier roles, like the Cobra Kai guy and whichever Bill and Ted isn’t Keanu.
We have people who think they fight fascists by arguing with those who don’t agree with them on Twitter and meanwhile are fine with America ignoring the plight of the Uighurs.
These cases are interesting in light of Joe Biden’s decision to ignore China’s own genocide.
Everyone thinks they would have fought Nazis, in reality Biden has endorsed the CCP regime - and his supporters don’t even blink.
Sorry for the language but he’s right. Our public health communication during Covid has run the gamut, and this bleak “Get the shot so nothing will change” message is the worst of a bad lot.
For fuck's sake - tell people the ways in which their lives will improve after they get vaccinated, not the ways in which their lives will stay exactly the same. What the hell is wrong with your brains???
When is someone just going to say: "Screw you, if you don't like the book I recommended, don't read it" instead of this groveling and "taking time away" from their band.
Arizona tried letting everyone turn any property into a short term rental. This has been a major driver of our housing shortage. It’s time to acknowledge our mistake and let cities regulate STRs.

When LA banned AirBnB in most apartment buildings like 5 yrs ago, there was a noticeable increase in inventory & a material decline in rents.
(And that was with pretty half-a*sed enforcement of the ban.)

We mapped this all the way out a few years back. 1 - Serve clients off the island; 2 - Pay yourself a reasonable salary (PR treasury has deemed 10% of profits a safe harbor); 3 - Be physically present in the continental US less than half the year; 4 - Pay only 4% taxes. No IRS.
I had a 3rd grade teacher who wrote on my report card: “I know that you’ll be successful, whatever you do in life.” That was 36 years ago and I remember it like it was yesterday.

Progressive allies of Mayor Brandon Johnson have released a financial blueprint titled - and I'm not joking - "First We Get the Money" calling for $12 billion in new taxes, including:
"Head tax" of $33 per worker for companies with 50+ employees
Quadrupling the tax on jet fuel.

Now imagine your government forcibly displaces you and puts you in a camp because of your religion and spoiled millionaires in a position to speak out defend the government so they can have a few more million.
Here are the criteria Arizona doctors will have to use to triage patients now that our hospitals are in crisis mode. If it makes no sense to you, maybe second guessing doctors wasn’t the right play.
Remember when America wasn’t supposed to respond to Covid because there were only 30/3000/30000 cases? Vietnam, with 97 million people, responded in January, never had a national lockdown, 300 cases, nobody died.

Mad respect for Tweeting this with no disclaimer, knowing full well people too dense to get the obvious joke will not only try to dunk on you but believe they’ve done so successfully.

Martin Luther King paid the hospital bill when Julia Roberts was born.
Her parents ran a rare, racially integrated children's acting school, where the King children were welcomed. The Roberts's couldn't afford the hospital bill for her delivery, and the Kings stepped in.
Arizona legislators - your job requires encountering viewpoints that aren’t necessarily yours. Walking out on the governor or turning your back is the ultimate snowflake move. It’s okay to just sit and not clap.

Unlike some other states, California does not require districts to provide free school buses — even if a student lives far from school.
Black and Native American students are both most likely to be absent and and least likely to have access to a car.
Imagine two guys beating you up at a gas station. 1am. Against these long odds a limo pulls up. Elvis Presley, King of Rock N’ Roll, jumps out and assumes a karate stance. The assailants give up. This really happened. And there is a monument. He had 52 days to live.
I was told scientists would be back in the driver’s seat. So of course, a lawyer politician with no real history of working on health policy is running HHS.
I think we should be talking about the nominees who aren’t qualified. You know who tops my list Xavier Becerra for HHS, an individual with absolutely no health care experience. None.
This 60 Minutes special on the widows and orphans of COVID is crushing. 15 year old summoning the strength to smile on a FaceTime call with his mom because he realized it would be her last memory on earth. A 17 year old promising his sick dad he’d take over the family business.
