I was in Ipswich as an ENT F2 reviewing a pt in ED and a certain Ipswich ED consultant shouted “TIE UP YOUR HAIR NOW” from the other side of Majors, all the pts and the rest of ED were stunned silent, I felt awful.Maybe learn to address concerns with juniors a bit more humanely?

Looking back, I’ve realised GP has to be the most understanding and flexible training program out there. When I told my training programme director that one of my family members was ill and I wanted to work part-time 50% for a bit they arranged for that within a day.

I remember assisting in Ortho theatre in F2 and a consultant lectured me about how women were inferior in spacial awareness when it came to laparoscopic surgery (based on some paper he had read), needless to say he got done for petty theft a year later. #womeninsurgery #karma

In October 2019 my Dad had incidental findings of liver metastasis after being admitted for something else. He was completely asymptomatic of any of the signs/symptoms of #PancreaticCancer . We need better diagnostics than accidentally falling into a CT scanner

It’s been 14 months since my Father received the incidental finding of stage 4 pancreatic cancer, 12 months of gruelling chemotherapy and vigorous shielding from COVID and I don’t think it gets any easier when I hear him say “after the cancer goes away” #gutwrenching

Sometimes I really shudder to think how older people from Ethnic minorities, who don’t speak English well and don’t have anyone medical in the family, navigate the NHS. They just don’t chase anything up as much as their Caucasian counterparts *from my experience*

It’s wild that in the US you get matched to your specialty straight after med school, those buffer F1/F2 years are so useful in helping cement/alter specialty interests and provide great exposure of working in other areas of medicine.

Only 3% of people survive Pancreatic Cancer for 5 years or longer. This figure has not improved in over 40 years. With the vague symptoms and thus late diagnosis, so much more needs to be done to tackle this silent cancer
