‘Just Cause Vol. 1’ is out today in full—thank you so much to everyone who has donated and supported so far. Very honored to be able to help put together something with so many of my favorite people in the world.
Free Palestine & DIY forever ❤️
Pretty insane release day for quiet music nerds: Anohni, PJ Harvey, Jim O’Rourke, 12 Rods, Moin, Lauren Bousfield, Kaho Matsui, Mary Jane Leach… anything else?
I’m very excited to announce that starting on Monday I will be the new Label Manager

Everyone who commented on the bandcamp discourse today by law has to go to a real local DIY show and actually support their scene.
I know this will be easier for some than others.

I have expressed it in writing and in conversations many times before but it really cannot be overstated: the Coin Coin series is easily one of the most vital American artworks of the 21st century in any medium.
I didn't acknowledge this on the day it was tweeted at me incessantly LOL bc I wanted to acknowledge it today.
12 years!
here here!
there is my life before this recording...
and my life after....
it changed everything....
Jaimie Branch was one of the most outstanding performers I ever had the pleasure of seeing play, and was always so incredibly cool and kind the few times I was lucky enough to meet her.
She is an absolute legend and the world is so so much better because of her and her art. RIP
Astral Spirits with one of the biggest release day flexes a label has had this year. Immaculate albums from
@caroenildavis
&
@eisenbergsounds
and [ahmed] today!!
Quite literally, if you are a fan of any guitar music from the last 40 years you are a fan of, and indebted to, Steve Albini in some way. RIP to the king.
Some news: From now until the end of the year, I'll be doing some PR work for
@partisanrecords
💕
So to all my writer mutuals, you can expect me to start pestering about new stuff very soon!
Wouldn't usually be this annoying about a set I do but I really love this collection of tracks & this mix of Taiwanese pop songs will make your day better.
I always enjoy sharing my end of year music playlist with all of you — and this year we heard a lot of great songs. Here are some of my favorites.
Are there any songs or artists I should check out?
Y2K came 20 years late and it's so so much better than anyone could've realized.
@toneglow
has outdone itself yet again, ironically cementing itself as the only canonical music pub out rn by unleashing a massive 2 pt. issue about the best non-canonical albums of 2000
Spread across two issues, dig into our biggest feature yet: Our Favorite Non-Canonical Albums of 2000.
From The Last Mr. Bigg to The Aislers Set, Shiina Ringo to Juana Molina, Reynols to Cymbals, these are 50 albums we love.
Tape labels are dead. I’m starting a Tik Tok only label. Every album 1-minute or less (preferably shorter to improve virality).
Who wants to be my first release?
Just saw my name in the "thank you" section of the liner notes for an LP for the first time and I know that's kinda a corny thing to be excited about but it made me a lil verklempt
If you, in 2023, still struggle with the "conundrum" of art vs artist as if the "solution" has not always been painfully obvious: every piece of art has its own context from which it cannot be stripped and that is worth considering, you have child-level critical thinking skills.
I’m not sure I can make it through the tik tok-ification of Laurie Anderson. Sincerely don’t know if I’m strong enough. I barely survived the Kate Bush thing
Artists and reviewers should be able to call a duel over the number score. It can be in any style agreed to by both duelers: hand-to-hand, joust, pistol, etc. The winner can move the score by two points up or down and all parties agree that becomes definitive and final.
Trying to provide a timeline cleanse for those looking to listen to something out today not by an incredibly famous pop star, rock band, or electronic artist from either the US or UK
Been yelling about this a lot the last few years but the growing disparity of wealth & access we see on a grand economic scale is applicable to pretty much everything we see, especially in the music industry. The only current sustainable options left are being DIY or a Megacorp
Randomly decided to revisit death grips tonight, and I know the music world has kinda cooled on them but I just wanna get this take out so I can qt it when we all re-remember them in a couple of years: Easily one of the best bands of the 21st century. Holy lord.
the thing about taylor swift is that she so perfectly encapsulates through her lyrics, the interior lives of women. It's why we all can't stop listening. We're all saying, "wait you felt that way? we were all feeling this way?"
do men have someone like that?
"I don’t presume to have an audience; I mostly make things to continue the curiosity, to sustain myself, to reinvigorate, to get excited again." —Devin DiSanto
@misterminsoo
talks w/ DiSanto about detaching sounds from their sources, his albums, & more.
Bernie Sanders is the only political figure in my lifetime or that I can even really think of that I have been proud to or would have been proud to vote for. I really hope that Bernie's revolution inspires future (if we get a future *knock on wood*) candidates to push barriers 1/
From the time I heard Izzy’s first EP in 2016 I knew she was an incredibly special artist. I cannot stress enough how excited I am to have somehow manifested that fandom into working with her now—very big things to come.

The Utah and Washington resident that lives within me would never stoop so low as to buy and use an umbrella and I will happily be soaked by a million New York downpours before I let go of my honor
No cheating - your Quietus style Bakers Dozen. 13 albums (off the top of your head) to know you by. Not looking for a perfect list, looking for a list that you instantly regret posting because you then remember something else.
I understand it’s easier said than done, but if you’re making art and are focused on whether or not people will like it rather than just making what you want to make and letting other folks’ taste for it be their own business, you are more than likely making boring art.
Come to Public Records next Friday (Sept. 1) for a show featuring this insane list of some of the best musicians in the city:
Amirtha Kidambi
Jason Nazary
Lester St. Louis (twice)
Matt Nelson
Alfredo Colón
Wendy Eisenberg
Ryan Sawyer
