Simultaneously since 2015 the RCP, RCS and other Royal Colleges have fanatically created, organized, promoted and propagandized a parallel “clinician” pathway for those incapable of entering medical school — the UK’s horrifying variant of America’s Physician Assistants.

There is a PA sitting on the RCP council. They are unelected too. He must also resign and his post be abolished. A non-doctor has no place in any doctor’s Royal College. #RCPEGM

Only in the UK do people deny the fact that the best and brightest become doctors. This is accepted and applauded in literally every other country on Earth, except the UK where envy and doctor-bashing is a feature of the culture at large, enabled by the socialism of the “arrrNHS”

@energizerapid It's not unique at all, and is incredibly arrogant, condescending, and indeed not universally true. By your logic, "the brightest all-rounders of society" all without exception go on to study medicine. In which case god help any other profession in existence.

Weird so many UK people simultaneously hold mutually exclusive positions: 1) arrogantly think they deserve unlimited free healthcare without strikes because a tiny number of them paid tax once AND 2) recoil in horror when privatization and health insurance is suggested 🎂ism

PAs are used around the world as assistants. The entry requirements for PAs are far higher abroad than the low intellects allowed in the UK. In the UK dumb PAs are allowed to pantomime as doctors. PAs aren’t going anywhere, but the NHS mortuaries are going to fill up fast.

@EmieMoose The point of the PA: 1) let kids of powerful people with low grades and low work ethic pretend to be doctors but with zero accountability 2) let politicians pretend more patients are being taken out of waiting rooms and be “seen” 3) let politicians break the power of doctors.

Right, because a doctor earning £15/hour gets to keep all of it, right? Like they don’t pay tax or NI? And then with the post-tax money, they don’t have to pay for gas, food, transport, council tax etc.? And examinations? The comparison is valid. The NHS suppresses doctor pay.

@BenMearns Mate PAs aren’t medical students.

@MercurialRx Yes the standard of medical education in Eastern Europe is very good. Plus they don’t have all the “ethics” bullshit like SJT/MSRA — the only thing that UK medicine excels at: turning the most supremely subjective matter, ethics, into a test to rank people for jobs with.

@ClareGerada @Dr_BellaR Well you & other clowns in the Royal Colleges and NHS admin are already creating “Chief PA” roles and proposed “Lead PA” and “Consultant PA” roles at even higher salaries so I’d expect the medschool rejects you love will earn consistently more over the next 29 yrs too. NHS circus

Annoying that people don’t want to pay high skilled medical/dental professionals. They call it “greed” that dentists want to be paid for their skills. LEARN TO PAY FOR YOUR HEALTHCARE you communist entitled fools. Avoid the milkshakes and brush your teeth! Idiots.

@WelshGasDoc They’re probably too busy doing neurosurgery, medical clinics, and carrying the stroke consultant bleep.

@TomStocks1982 Utter corruption of the College. Redo the vote! Remove the leadership!

So according to the parasitic GMC, the only difference between a doctor and a PA is the length and content of the course. Just as the only difference between a typical GMC clown getting fat off doctors’ direct debits and Michael Jordan is height, ability, skill, and talent.

We have an answer from the GMC According to them, PAs study medicine, just not the same as a doctor who studies it for 5 years. Whats different? The time and the content.

@BladeoftheS And the rich will be able to afford it while two middle class parents who save and save to put their kid there will not, and will be forced to send their kid to a state school. Larger class sizes for state schools 👏👏👏👏👏

@doctor_oxford It’s shocking that senior radiologists are allowing PAs who have no proven knowledge of anatomy to perform the most intricate of interventional radiology procedures. What’s gotten into the heads of Royal Colleges and consultant radiologists? Seems like the Post Office again

Where is @SecretNHSCEO ? The medical profession is United like never before — even more proof! United, fighting against a PA experiment foisted upon unsuspecting patients by an out of touch knighthood-seeking medical establishment oligarchy led by @DacreJane and other weirdos.

As we all knew and expected, the vocal “minority” is actually the vocal majority and the silent “majority” is actually an atom in an ocean. Very pleased to see #RCPEGM motions have passed, despite the leadership’s efforts to influence the vote.

@Azeem_Majeed The main question is why they specifically called for medical students — many of whom won’t even have a F1 job — instead of calling up their army of “generalist specialist” PAs and their pet MDT members too

as an aside, working yesterday in AMU a couple of juniors told me (without my even raising the subject) that they felt the online stuff re PAs had gone too far (despite legit concerns) & they really didn't like it & it unsettled PAs they worked with I haven't heard that before
