The City of Austin is proposing to bring forward rules on what plants new homes are allowed to plant in their yards.
All new homes will be restricted to an acceptable plant list.

ML researchers, reviewers, and press coverage of ML need to get a lot more serious about statistically robustness of results and the effect of hyperparameters. This study shows that many papers over the last year or so were just observing sampling error, not true improvement.

No need to drive anywhere. Walk to your nearest park and save yourself the headache.
Austin is next to one of the nicest eclipse watching areas nationwide: The Texas Hill Country. Hundreds of thousands of people could come on April 8.
How bad will traffic be? No one knows for sure, but a total eclipse in 2017 caused historic gridlock.

While I'm enjoying the new Airport Corridor multiuse path, the main failure of the project is that it's ultimately designed with cars first in mind.
Little effort to limit curb cuts, calm traffic speeds, add trees or otherwise make it a pleasant place to be outside a car.
Austin voters have been generous in funding ambitious mode shift capital expenditures through corridors, bike/ped bonds, and Project Connect. We use our optional sales tax on CapMetro. So, there’s money for mode shift. Are we getting the most out of those allocations?

how did SFMTA ever think cars would not use the middle lane?
this would only have a chance of working if it protected by hard metal bollards, and even then it would be a poor design.
Meanwhile, drivers continue to park cars, trucks, and (SFFD) ambulances in the center cycle track, including on sections where all materials have been installed (so final design is complete).
At what point will SFMTA replace this “novel design” “experiment” with curbside lanes?

Let me clarify: my stance is still generally pro market rate housing, especially infill.
I'm just skeptical that in VHCOL areas there will be sufficient filtering down to low-income folks, and we need other tools in our affordability toolkit.

Just look at the Strava heat map. Nobody uses this trail because its next to 10 lanes of highway.
And they want to do this to the Southern Walnut Creek (heavily used and loved by cyclists)
