Press Release: Reporting NHS Tayside formally to Police Scotland 8th Nov 2023 @ 6pm
"Jules Rose attended the Police Station at Bell Street, Dundee. Jules walked into the station to make a formal complaint about NHS Tayside."
Thanks to Theresa Mallet for standing up to Humza. Telling him directly we need a Public Inquiry in to the failures of NHS Tayside, failures in oversight organisations, failures in Scottish Governments. As she said "Help make our Hospitals Safe!"
It's not just about one person, it's about the team around him that allowed it to happen, it's about the clinical governance mess that allowed it to happen, it's about the oversight organisations that were ineffective (HSE, HIS, GMC, RCS…) &c
Patient harmed spoke out yesterday; today
@HumzaYousaf
talks platitudes, whistleblowing (
@BMAScotland
recently stated still rubbish), and still thinks Public Inquiry isn't necessary.
Every time you say these things just makes it even more necessary.

A reminder, for those wondering about the successive ministers in the SG who ultimately failed to get to a Public Inquiry sooner. Here's what we said from our press release footnote 4 on 22nd June: 1/4…
A good review of some of the issues raised by the questions around the Eljamel & NHS Tayside situation and whistle-blowing. But also Letby & NHS Chester & Wirral; QEUH at NHS G.Glasgow & Clyde; Mid Staffordshire NHS Trust scandals
Thanks
@mspliz
for coming and supporting us at the protest today - you've been our supporter for a long time!
Our apologies: I believe we had run out of surgical gowns when you arrived, sorry about that... I know you'd have wanted one! :-)
Powerful and emotional demonstration held by Eljamel patients at Holyrood today. How on earth can the Scottish Government refuse an independent public inquiry?
As
@julesmrose
reminds us: by retaining and encouraging Eljamel to attract investments due to his practices, did that put patient safety at risk at
@NHSTayside
- all these questions need to be answered and the Public Inquiry can't begin soon enough.
“All of us want to see answers to the questions that many victims of Professor Eljamel have” comments

What he fails to mention is the profit over patient safety from his health board
@NHSTayside
Many turned a blind eye! Tayside are equally as culpable!! Get this
What. a. day. it. has. been!
Whilst we'd all like to take a moment to catch our collective breaths - there has been plenty of media coverage again today, so keep an eye out for updates.
Scottish Government confirms that there will be a full independent Public Inquiry regarding the issues we’ve been campaigning about. This is a massive achievement for the group, led by
@julesmrose
- but we need further information from
@MathesonMichael
in his statement later. (
Tonight
@julesmrose

also there for support! Jules says it was a "bittersweet moment" - read why:
We want a Public Inquiry, the Public needs one too.
We've explained it across different media outlets, and our press-releases.
Yet what we *want* seems to be oblivious to
@HumzaYousaf
and
@MathesonMichael
- they also don't seem to check what the other is saying. Crazy.
Lies, deflection, lies, deflection and more lies! Yousaf is caught out telling porkies again!

@Wat_Tyler87
Yes, we heard that too. We've actually started asking
@ScotSecofState
to now get involved, the Scottish Government clearly can't effectively investigate themselves. We think given that our patients and families are throughout the UK that this also makes sense.
@GBNEWS
@danwootton
If you'd like to know why Theresa was disrupting his speech - she is part of our campaign seeking Public Inquiry into harm caused by a neurosurgeon, NHS Tayside's failures, lack of oversight orgs, and failures by Scot Govt - then contact us.

In case you've forgotten how long since the various announcements. We've popped a counter on website to show just how long we've waited since. (Individual clinical reviews were 1st announced 2024-04-20 - noon; Public Inquiry announced 2024-09-07 - noon)
Listen to an interview with our lead patient, Jules Rose, on BBC Radio Scotland's 'Good Morning Scotland' today at 8.15am (Listen live on BBC Sounds: and on Freeview channel 719 in Scotland)
Well? We are waiting.
We’ve been waiting a long time.
Here’s how some of our patients have been impacted by what happened to them, we hope you understand more about our suffering.
The Individual Clinical Reviews were first announced 295 days ago, and the Public Inquiry
If you want to see the full coverage with only limited trimming (Twitter limits everyone to 2mins 20secs) you can find these archived on our website here:
Maybe, like we are counting up the days since a Public Inquiry and Individual Clinical Reviews were announced (154 and 294 days respectively), we need to start a counter of Health Secretaries?
Let's hope the next one understands the delays and gets things underway quickly.
We just don't understand why
@HumzaYousaf
continues to insist that it's only about one rogue surgeon, it's about his colleagues, about the management at NHS Tayside, it's about clinical governance and oversight organisations (HIS/HSE), it's about what the Scottish Government did.
Despite hollow assurances by the
@scotgov
and
@NHSTayside
that "lessons have been learned" since neurosurgeon Eljamel and NHS Tayside allowed our patients to be harmed – here we are again seeing another NHS organisation having problems with systemic failures in management culture
I'll be on GMS at 8.15am tomorrow to discuss why myself and all victims will not allow any more can kicking from
@HumzaYousaf

Thanks
@Douglas4Moray
though we liked when you reminded when a "failed SNP Health Secretary became First Minister"
@NicolaSturgeon
- she failed us, the patients of Eljamel, for years.
@HumzaYousaf
continues to fail us. Let's just have a Public Inquiry and get this sorted out.

We would also say that the SNP would have had a plan to deal with any hecklers about any topic - you do not simple hold a party session at a major public location without planning like this. Luckily, we got our voices heard, again. Thanks Theresa.
@SharonKirk64
Exactly. Independent means independent. We've already publicly said on several occasions that we believe "the individual clinical review for each patient is separate to the Public Inquiry and will be provided by healthcare organisations that are independent of the Public
It's shocking that, according to this report, 442 incidents in Scottish Health Boards were identified over 2022-23. An 'incident' is reported where the organisation had a legal responsibility to tell patients' after an unintended or unexpected event which has caused them harm or

Are our Hospitals safe? patients have been harmed for yrs, we must stop people & families suffering or dying Now!
@eljamelInquiry
But, before that, how about we sort out failures in clinical governance and oversight up-to and including the Scottish Government - we must have a Public Inquiry to look at the issues behind Eljamel and those that enabled him to harm over a 100 patients so it cannot happen again.
What would healthcare look like in an independent Scotland?
A new constitution could safeguard an NHS that is free at the point of need.

Dunno. Might be a hard fought race to decide which one: Robison 2007-11/14-18; Sturgeon 08-12; Freeman 18-21; Yousaf 21-23; Matheson 11-14/23+ : all of them have either known about it and done nothing, or NHS Tayside didn't tell them.

Can anyone think of a reason why Humza Yousaf would continue to rule out a public inquiry into the botched procedures carried out by disgraced neurosurgeon Muftah Salem Eljamel?
Thanks Marion, certainly Pelvic Mesh and the Infected Blood Public Inquiries are definitely something we support and look up to in terms of the need for PI for us. We think folk forget that it's not just about patients already harmed but also stopping further harm to the public

Whilst this is for PHSO in England, who says "there is a culture of cover-up [in NHS England trusts]", one can't help wondering how the proposed Patient Health Safety Commissioner (Scotland) will find NHS Scotland's culture? Our prediction: awful. (
@PHSOmbudsman
@RobBehrens1884
A great summary of NHS ‘cover up’ culture. Is this a symptom of systemic compassion fatigue due to chronic underfunding and impossible government targets? Is radical NHS self-care needed?

I was harmed by Eljamel in 2013. He carried out brain surgery. Was made to believe I was unlucky when it went wrong! Had to have 3 more operations by him in 2013. I have had multiple surgeries since to correct.

Tayside tried to cover this up.
