I used to work in CAMHS & have great respect for colleagues still there but I think it is important to name the structural issues which are in part being driven by commissioning decisions. "We're not commissioned to treat neurodevelopmental conditions" is not good enough in 2024.

"Trauma informed training" is being rolled out in our schools with poor scientific evidence. My colleagues and I are very concerned about the potential for harm from these programmes. Anyone interested in this area, do check out papers from

It really concerns me that my schoolteacher friend just had 3hrs "trauma informed training" in which they were told "diagnosis is nearly always unhelpful", "antidepressants don't work", neurodivergence is a result of trauma etc. Also no chance to ask Qs. Sounds like preaching.

As a clinician and mental health researcher, I can't accurately capture my thoughts on this complex phenomenon in a tweet/Insta post/reel/TikTok video - and that, dear readers, is part of the problem.
Mental health providers are seeing an uptick in teens diagnosing themselves with mental illnesses — including rare disorders — after learning about the conditions online, particularly on TikTok. Some are embracing ineffective or inappropriate treatments.

Yet it's very hard for qualified clinicians to engage in meaningful dialogue with content like this on platforms that have no interest in nuance.

Medical staff have been asking for higher quality masks for ages in ALL wards where there are COVID+ patients. They are being told that Level1 PPE (surgical masks) is sufficient for non-AGP but is it really when the patients are coughing in enclosed areas?

This to me is one of the dilemmas of being a mental health professional on social media:
Do we call out blatant misinformation and bad takes, and so risk feeding into the controversy that the original poster was hoping for, thus boosting their reach?
Or not engage?

CBT Therapists, it is important that we are aware of how CBT is talked about (and misrepresented) online.
This is why discussing what CBT is + what it isn't is a vital part of the contracting process. To borrow from Helen Kennerley: "CBT is on trial and I'm on trial, not you".
This is a good encapsulation of why CBT -- the worst and most popular form of therapy -- is completely useless.
Every one of our behaviors is there for a reason. It lifts some weight from us, it helps us avoid something hard or scary in our pasts, it serves some purpose to keep
