Many congratulations to all the NSF awardees!! To everyone else: fellowship rejections are NOT an indicator of future success or current worth! I was never awarded an NSF GRFP, NDSEG, or nationally competitive fellowship in grad school. I now have my dream job.

Gave a talk to middle school students about my career path. I ended up explaining the difference between an Assistant Professor and a Professor. Kid raises their hand and asks, "How do you get evaluated for promotion to Professor?" π€―
Very exciting and inspiring day today!
@joshjzak
defended his PhD!! My first PhD student! He gave a beautiful talk and certainly earned his new title ππ I can't wait to see what he does on his next step.
#proudadvisor
is an understatement. We will all miss you so much!!
In case you need some positivity today: check out these awesome scenes from the celebration of Frances Arnold's Nobel Prize!!
@francesarnold
gave a very inspirational speech.
@Caltech
is an incredible place!! (Fun game: Spot the innovative glassware setup... π€)

Just submitted The Paper by my first PhD student on his first project. Never give up! Some things take time. And I did it on his birthday, boom π₯. Well done
@joshjzak

Happy birthday!!!! ππ°π»
We are hiring a postdoc! Come work with us and the solar fuels hub, Liquid Sunlight Alliance (LiSA)! Candidates interested in liquid electrolyte chemistry are encouraged to apply. Details and how to apply:
Please share widely and retweet!
@Chemjobber
Check out
@zac_iton

@zac_iton
and how this came together!

Many many thanks to
@BASF
and
@VWGroup
for this incredible award and opportunity! Many congratulations to the finalists on their amazing talks
@KelseyHatzell
@CoskunLab
Jinhyuk Lee and Xiqian Yu! Very thankful to spend the last few days with the ppl whose shoulders we stand on.
Thank you so much to the
@dreyfusfndn
for this incredible honor! This is really for my group members who have done all the work and been the best team to work with π Thank you also to everyone who has reached out after this announcement! I so appreciate all your support!
My group told me at subgroup today that we have an Al3+ conductor with a conductivity of 300 mS/cm. Can't say what the phase is yet (secret stage right now!), but it's safe to say it's all hands on deck! Look for it soon!

Thank you to
@ACSChemRev
for including me on their Early Career Advisory Board. I am honored to be part of it. I look forward to meeting all the other members!
Thank you thank you to
@USNavyResearch
and Dr. Joseph Parker for the ONR YIP! Many thanks to my group who deserve all the recognition and helped put this together, especially
@Xiaotong__Li
@joshjzak
@epatheria
and Steve Kim! ππ»πΎπ
References should not be included in any word count, page count, or character count for any document ever. Period. I will die on this hill. I really do not understand why they do!!
This stunt by
@angew_chem
is taking attention away from the
#BlackLivesMatter
issues we should be focusing on. Diversity and inclusion in STEM is incredibly important, but don't let it overshadow the safety and lives of Black Americans.
What a day!!!!!!!!! So excited for this prize!!!! Many, many congratulations!! My research is completely inspired by the work these three did and still do. Intercalation chemistry revolutionized energy storage. Finally!!!

@zac_iton
worked his a** off on this paper - we started writing in 2021π₯΄ ZnPS3 takes up *a lot* of H2O in the grain boundaries, Zn2+ solvates into the H2O, leaving it's anion behind in the solid, to yield a superionic Zn2+ and H+ conductor.

Bob truly made me feel like family the second I stepped foot on campus. His kindness and humanity knew no bounds. My deepest condolences go out to Helen,
@barneygrubbs
,
@katymgrubbs
, Brendan, and their families. Bob will be intensely missed.
The Division is saddened to report the passing of Robert Grubbs. The outpouring of memories being shared is a testament to his profound impact and influence as a professor, mentor, colleague & friend -- not only in the chemistry community, but beyond.
He will be greatly missed.
This paper was a heroic effort by
@joshjzak
, Steve, Forrest, and me and I'm really proud of the way it turned out! Grateful to work with a kick-a** team! Check out our perspective of anion redox in sulfides π and how it affects the structure in

Many, many congratulations to
@Maxwell_Robb
who won the 2017-2018 GSC Teaching Award!! The award is given to one faculty member at
@Caltech
each year by the Graduate Student Council. Recognition from the students themselves is a big honor! Here's a nice shot of him with Harry.
I canceled an expensive, international flight because of
#coronavirus
and
@AmericanAir
refunded my ticket within a day or so without much effort on my part (filled out short form online). Thank you
@AmericanAir

I'm excited to share Wendy's last paper in my group! Are you trying to use a sacrificial Al anode in THF and your echem just doesn't work? Try adding a dash of salt!
I'm so excited that this is out! Huge congrats to Steve and co, especially Daniil and Anton! We clearly show that cation vacancies enable anion oxidation using Steve's clever set of materials based on LiTiS2 and Li2TiS3. Vacancy = space and S nb states.
Starting the proposal: How am I supposed to write 15 pages on this?!
Trying to finish the proposal: How do I delete 4 pages worth of stuff to get this down to 15 pages?!
Many congratulations to Dr. Wendy Zhang for successfully defending your PhD thesis today!!! You have taught us so much and at will miss you!!

The look on people's faces (sometimes followed by comments) when they meet me and learn that I'm the 'Prof. See' driving this lab renovation...
Yes. I'm a woman.

Excited to share our new work using ML to predict superionic conductors for Li+. Take homes:
- spatial descriptors are the best predictors of ionics and they point to Li3BS3
- Li3BS3 is a superionic conductor w/+defects
How do we include defects in ML?
If anyone is interested in a postdoc position studying the effect of electrolyte composition on electrochemical CO2 reduction in
