My friends and I are working on a paper, highlighting the barriers to surgical care in Low and Middle Income Countries (LMICs).
It will shock anyone who has not practiced in a poor resource setting like Nigeria, what these barriers look like.
What is the rationale for this?!
I got into secondary school at 9 & managed to top my class. I took the WASSCE at 14 & cleared my papers. If a kid is ready for more academic work, let them have it.
Our FG should focus on protecting our children from underage marriages, not school
My man💕
I have intentionally not included any credit alerts, bcs I desperately want people to stop correlating financial gifts with good parenting. A poor man can be a great dad & vice-versa.
P.S my dad is proof that you can heal from a traumatic childhood & be a good parent.
I’m glad that lady is getting free money to furnish her home. But someone pointed out how the money (₦) donated to the victims of the Plateau massacre is only a fraction of what has been raised for her in 24hrs, & people are responding w bile. Truly, if they explain Nigeria to
This is quite fascinating. My mom was apparently the first woman in her village or LGA (not sure which) in Imo, to bag a PhD & her brothers threw a party to celebrate her. I thought it was absurd at the time, since I grew up in an academic community, but I understand better now.
After the Biafran war, because Igbo families could not afford to train their children in school, we had to make a choice. We chose to send the girls to school while the boys had to get into trade & the apprenticeship programme to help support the women's education.
During my intern year, one of my chiefs had an accident which affected his control of his right hand & I was the only one aware of it. I decided to scrub into all of his surgeries as first assist to cover up his lapses. We fell in love and have since lived happily together.😊
I understand the sentiment of having a 1st elected female governor. I truly believe it will be a game changer. But a woman willing to grasp power through illicit processes, is no different from the corrupt men we decry. We can’t support this at the expense of ethical principles

Earlier this year, I got a well paying job that merged my medical career with my passion for humanitarian work (testimony for another day).
Now, for context, I’m a very detailed, borderline obsessive person when it comes to planning my life, my goals, my finances etc.
I have a testimony🥹🥹🥹
I’ve always avoided public testimonies for obvious reasons, but I’ve read some of yours on this very app that have encouraged me, so why not?
@That1MedStudent
Every now and then I’m reminded that sometimes, minding my business is not the best thing to do. Hate to think of what could’ve happened to her, if you hadn’t followed your gut. Thank you ❤️
The pride allegations are true, I’m afraid. Language is so important. The fact that she omitted his name - Chika - someone with whom we can infer she had a close working relationship with, is very telling. I’m glad she isn’t blatantly denying the claims, at least.
@mayorfromthe60s
It is very concerning. The victim relief fund has been up for over a week, and while we don’t get to police how people spend their monies, it is rather weird to see how willing people are to let go of their monies to prove a point than to help people in need.
It’s the same way I got a lot of “Nnem, send your account details, you’ve done us proud!” from my uncles & aunties on my mom’s side, when I graduated med school.
Igbo people have always placed immense value on education, especially the education of their girls.
While we get called out on this app every other day, I’m truly thankful for CCI.
I love knowledge. I will happily read the Bible & 10 commentaries, but pray? Nah, too razz. Joined CCI & every day they’re like you will pray!🫵🏾
Matter long, but I’ve learnt to pray here & I love it.
Considering our deeply patriarchal Nigerian culture, it is so beautiful to know that this predates modern views on the importance on educating the girl child.
Igbo Amaka.
I understand the appeal to make $1k a month considering our shitty economy, but I really hope anyone who decides to apply to this, thoroughly reads between the lines of this work clause.
That said, this is BS and should be illegal. We need to enforce stricter contract guidelines.
@meddieee
Lmaoooo Meddie! But why didn’t you bring the soup???
Reminds me of my last job. I was on call, and brought a flask of food from home. The nurses proposed an impromptu potluck, and I thought they were joking, until someone started eating my couscous!😭 (I grew to like them sha😂)
@timothy_atasie
Stories like yours are so important! To think that you didn’t fully celebrate when you were called to bar, is a sad reflection of how comparison steals joy. This is also a reminder to not ask people insensitive questions about their achievements. Thank you for sharing ur story ❤️
@trending_medic
It was
@DrZobo
that made me stop doing this very thing. It felt so weird at first, and then I adapted.

I had a patient with an unknown dermatological condition. We’d employed every treatment modality we could think of, but there was no progress. Matter of fact, their condition seemed to be worsening. (Note that’s there’s no dermatologist on staff, and pt cannot afford a consult.)
We’re reading through Exodus, & I’ve been moved to tears by God’s patience & provision for His people.
Presumably due to recent CT arguments, I also noticed with fresh eyes how God was intentional about giving laws to protect the rights of the ✨poor✨
I’ll share some verses.
@Ma_folayomi
@almaasinobi
That’s it for me too lmao. As I read the thread, I kept thinking “how kind of her to give them the benefit of anonymity” and then she chose violence at the end!😭😂
Broo, I listened to Tim Keller preach the gospel of Christ from the book of Nehemiah, and I was absolutely astounded. It was the first time I’d heard the book explicated in a way that didn’t place the emphasis on Nehemiah’s great leadership skills; or on how I should emulate him.
Personal thoughts; I think preachers who are more grounded are those who can preach solid Gospel sermons from the narratives of the OT.
It amazes me when they do it ngl.
@Lorde_Em
I’m so sorry. I moved to a new town for work, and my colleagues who’d been there much longer, had very similar stories as yours. Their first advice to me was to never be charitable on impulse. Quite perplexing and sad.

I arrived at the hotel I’d booked and paid for last night, only to be told that not only did they did not receive my reservation from the booking site, they were also fully booked.

Discipleship should be prioritized over numbers. I think there’s no point proselytizing, if we can’t teach the ones within the body sound theology, and encourage their growth.
Do you know how vile you have to be to immediately consider wielding your financial advantage over someone who supposedly love and care for, after a disagreement?
The need for women to be financially independent can never be overemphasized. It frees you to love & be loved wholly.
This girl suddenly told me to leave her alone last night. I did what she said, and I later modified my Netflix login information. This morning, she sent me a text message, saying, "Sorry about yesterday, banney. It was period cramps." Nace ko haihuwa zaki gin bama kallan Netflix.
@bumblebees_ng
@Makavelli275
Not a lot of people realize that these women are still victims. There are stories of women who find the courage to leave, and get killed by their abusers. There’s Stockholm syndrome. There are so many reasons victims stay. Such a sad story.
When I was much younger, I used to say “I’ll find the cure to cancer when I grow up”, & I wholeheartedly believed it.
Of course, I didn’t know then that there were numerous types of cancers; many poorly understood.
Some days I truly miss the optimism that comes with naivety.
I’ve observed that it is much easier to come to sound doctrine from total unbelief, than from a heretical camp supposedly within the body. It is such a blessing to be able to read scripture with untainted eyes and mind; with childlike curiosity, instead of taught presuppositions.
I’ve prayed for Nigeria with tears…in anger, in solemnity. With people, and in my closet.
I hold fast to a theology that upholds the sovereignty of God, and if all our prayers have yet to change the outcome of today, I rest assured that One wiser than me, has permitted it.
On semantics, I learned something I thought was pretty cool as I read through Colossians today, with a Greek lexicon.
If this is common knowledge, pardon my ignorant excitement 🥹
What a week! I remember having to wrestle with the question of priorities before, & during
#Match2023
.
“Is
#GenSurg
your priority? OR securing a residency spot?”
And each time, I had the same answer.
My Nigerian people will say I have coconut head & maybe they’re right lol
We don’t see water baptisms as frequently as we see “altar calls” because we’ve downplayed it’s essence. It’s an us problem, not a scriptural problem.
Why the the Ethiopian Eunuch immediately request baptism on conversion? Why is it recorded in Acts 2 that the 3000 were baptized?
HJ chronicles. Photo was taken on my birthday. I’d been on call the night before, and I got to deliver babies in the very same room where I was born, a couple odd years before them. It felt very poetic.
P.S this thread reminded me of my aversion for photos at work 🫣
🇳🇬Doctors may be loud about our laughable remunerations — and rightly so — yet nurses are paid only a fraction of this. They’re infantilized significantly more & worse, barely have avenues for career advancement in Nigeria.
But ofc the NMCN believes, Oppression > Fixing this.🙂
My childhood best friend got married this weekend, and it was the most beautiful thing🥹🤎
Also, if I had a dollar for every time an auntie asked me “so when will we be celebrating yours?” this weekend, I’d be able to afford a Birkin bag💀
This guy just paid a girls rent within 2 hours of talking to her cuz he is interested in her and I must tell you,that right there is a husband material and a good man 🤝.
Our paper just got published!!! And it’s my first as a 1st author!🎉🎉
So thankful for my amazing team! Somehow we pulled this off while working in different time zones, with crazy schedules, and we’re only getting started!

@nkxnnia
Lmao. My mom has graduated from shouting to aggressive love. She’ll barge into your room 5x/hr to see if you’re maybe cheating on her with another mother. No concept of personal space whatsoever & she unfortunately has kids that love their space. Long distance works best for us😂
@Mrpossidez
You write so well, but you already know that. What a blessing it is, to have teachers like Mr. Oseyande, who know they are not merely doing a job, but are leaving indelible marks on little minds. I can only imagine the pride he must feel, and the gratitude you feel. What a story!
Seeing how my American friends struggle with student loans, makes me wonder why Nigeria is ruining the one good thing we have going on for us; affordable education.
When I enrolled in med school in 2012, my tuition fee at a Federal uni was about ₦25,000, ~$160 at the time 1/
“They tried to bury us, they didn’t know we were seeds”. Love to see how Chude’s unjust ordeal has produced something beautiful. 🤎
Here’s to also hoping that when we reclaim our mandate, prison reform makes it to the list of priority projects.
Aside from helping some inmates regain their freedom. I also took it upon myself to supply food and groceries to the poor inmates who are now my friends and family.
Also, regards to my good friend
@the_greycie
, who is also helping in her own way.
Good ol’ research does go along way.
Please publish case reports when you come across bizarre presentations. Your paper might help a stranded colleague in a remote location. 🤲🏾
Most of the rebuttals are indeed rooted in privilege; the assumption that there’s electricity, a fridge, microwave, money to outsource lunch. This is why I maintain that the act itself wasn’t wrong. The motivation?🫸🏾
But I totally agree, we need to be more graceful w our takes.
That lady, a married mother of 2 said that's the first time she's seeing 500k.
It's a reminder that most of our conversations are rooted in poverty.
I know you're all rich and privileged but I need you people to be a little more graceful and thoughtful with your takes.
Exactly a year ago, I was inducted into the Medical Council of Nigeria🥳
An unplanned season of my life turned out to be exactly what I needed! I’m without a doubt certain that this year of practice has shaped me more into the doctor I’ve always wanted to be.
So thankful!
This is the kind of heretical teaching that almost cost my friend her faith. Homegirl went to sow her expensive wig, trusting God for a financial breakthrough. (I am not kidding…she will see this). Guess how it ended?🙂
A transactional relationship with God is NOT Biblical.

You people speak as if one church father or contemporary pastor invented Baptism.
Jesus, the sacrifice oo, instructed it. Do you reckon he was trying to make light of his own sacrifice??

Well, this has gathered a lot of traction, so I’ll try to respond to a few of the prevailing comments.
Starting school early did not deprive me of time with my parents. My mom stayed at home the first two years of my life & was my first teacher. When both parents were working
In all this, I’m reminded that sometimes people are just sincerely wrong, which is why we must be gracious. But even in our sincerity, our errors have repercussions, & I truly pray God illuminates our hearts and grants us humility to come to knowledge and acceptance of the truth.
It’s also been quite interesting to read the writings of contemporary prophets (Amos, Micah, Isaiah), and see how even the messianic prophecies had contemporary relevance — a ‘double entendre’ of sorts.
My brother rejected all proposals to work out his NYSC posting, bcs, “I want to go where God wants me to be.” Mom couldn’t even argue with him, bcs these could have been her own words, so she resorted to praying that he doesn’t get posted to a certain geographic area. He didn’t🥹
@kaptaein
I respectfully disagree. Especially considering our utterly incompetent government, we the citizens must be intentional abt playing our parts. In the same way no one is obligated to support the victims of the Plateau massacre (although I’d argue that we have a moral obligation),
That’s how heresies thrive. We shuffle between intellectual slothfulness and cult like behavior. We’re either too lazy to search for the truth, or we place men on such an unfounded pedestal that we consider their words — no matter how glaringly false — sacred.
My contribution to this conversation is Jude 22-23;
“And have mercy on those who doubt; save others by snatching them out of the fire; to others show mercy with fear, hating even the garment stained by the flesh.” [ESV]
When Aquila and Priscilla heard Apollos boldly preaching a wrong thing, they didn’t label him a false teacher, instead they took him aside and taught him so he would know better.
Apollos later went on to do great stuff in ministry.
Our generation needs to learn this. We are

I learnt the importance of meditation a couple years ago when I first began to struggle with anxiety & panic attacks. I’m excited to add these to my meditation routine & the best part is…they are scripture🥰
Today is my dad’s birthday. I love that man so much, his photo has been my Lock Screen for months

But it’s also been a source of confusion, because I’ve had people ask if he is my spouse (???)
Anyways, I can’t wait to spoil him rotten soon 🥹🖤
I’m very glad that I learnt early in life that the ability to speak eloquently, does not necessarily translate to wisdom. One can eloquently spew foolish words, and seem wise, while a wise man speaking in a foreign tongue may be dismissed for his lack of eloquence.
If Professor Wole Soyinka can be this angry and perplexed with the utterances of Datti Ahmed.
If you are still supporting that Obi train, you need to check yourself ASAP!!!
There’s a way to advise medical students against giving prescriptions on the TL & belittling them is not it. You also do not get to police what they choose to share online from their studies. I fear some of you are gradually unfolding into the medical elders we often criticize🤦🏾♀️
we still had ample time after work/school hours to spend together as a family.
If a parent wants to spend time with their kid, school will not be the reason not to.
I never felt pressured by my parents to be or do anything, I set my own academic pace & they provided support.
I just took a street delivery. Baby was born on sand, just outside the hospital. Cord clamped with unsterile equipments, with my ungloved hands. Nothing could’ve prepared me for these wild experiences man.
It’s exciting and scary at the same damn time.
Someone fell under the anointing and broke my glasses. I figured it must be a sign that it is time to be healed. Raised my head and I still couldn’t see.😭
God is still good sha, because somehow I found contacts that I don’t remember putting, in my purse🥹💀
For Father’s Day last year, my family took my dad out to lunch. When the waiter came w the bill, he instinctively reached out to get it, but we declined. It was OUR treat. I still recall his surprise & then heartfelt gratitude. That he expected to foot the bill wasn’t lost on me.

I pray everyone has their support system ready to celebrate with, or comfort them…preferably the former.💐
See y’all on Friday ✌🏾
I listened to the most recent episode of with the Perry’s & wept. It’s been 8yrs since I had my most severe depressive episode when I daily craved death. I remember the kindness of God in that endless tunnel & I’m moved to tears each time I hear of His presence w those who suffer
I started my day with my parents coming to pray over me and give me hugs & kisses. Mom served me breakfast in bed. I did the procrastination thing & packed a suitcase 2 hours to my flight (do not recommend). Ended the day with hugs & kisses from my best guy. Best birthday ever🥹
Now this is how it is done! Sure, there’s no overt admittance of guilt, but an apology has been made. Chika has been acknowledged not only for his patience with all this, but for his support during the campaign (which renders him a top guy in my books). GRV has my respect still.
I have spoken to Chika and extended an olive branch in acknowledgement of an episode that I hope we can put behind us and look to better days ahead.
I believe this episode to have been an exception, rather than the norm, at least considering the context.
The situation has been
