The tough guys in the replies bragging about how scared of the subway they are is something. Subway to a Phillies game might be the safest & happiest ride you’ll ever take.

Pennsylvania is going to the moon.
Our Commonwealth is leading the way, helping America get back to the moon while creating jobs and growing our economy. 🚀
My man is out here trying to get Tasker Morris shut down. Just let the slime be slime, man. Don't ask questions. Not a pot we need stirring. We leave it alone. It leaves us alone.
As temps approach 100 degrees in Philadelphia, 13 out of 55 public library branches and approximately 20 out of 60 city pools will be open tomorrow.
@PhillyMayor
and
@CouncilmemberKJ
should be ashamed. They are not.
Anecdotal but a quick look at the Phillies crowd and 40,000+ made it on time for the start of the game with I95. Not a big deal if this thing just went away forever.
Unpopular opinion: football only stadiums are fine in a sea of parking far away from the city. If a train or two go there, fine. They are so infrequently used that I don’t want one on prime real estate. Baseball and basketball/hockey venues are different.
Deciding who to root for in the Super Bowl based on which team has the worse stadium. It's a tough call between NIMBY Hell and Suburban Hell. Both were constructed with astounding amounts of public money on behalf of billionaire NFL owners.
Can’t walk in Philly? Even this, very much not center city, does not require a car. Hardware store, supermarket, pediatrician, parks, subway, frequent bus, restaurants…
Shapiro waging a war on Philadelphia the likes of which we haven’t seen in decades. Defunding SEPTA so he can defund public education. Tom Corbett wasn’t this bad.
Things Fairmount has opposed (an incomplete list):
1. Desegregation of Girard College.
2. People visiting Eastern State Penn.
3. Ice Cream Shops (Black kids might go there).
4. A wine school.
5. Playground next to ESP.
6. Homeless/addiction support.
Mayor Parker wants to strip out around $1.5 million in annual funding for Vision Zero projects, while simultaneously increasing the Mayor's Office staff budget by several million dollars
I like JG more than some but there's something about "communities that are disproportionately dependent on SEPTA" that really feels off. Public transit isn't a charity. It isn't an option of last resort for the poor. This can't be how we frame this.
As someone who represents communities that are disproportionately dependent on SEPTA to move about, this is very disturbing news. Philadelphia needs a fully funded transit system.
JAMMO this weekend on 95 North coming thru Center City. Here are some options depending upon where you are going. And a pic of what it will look like when finished in 100 years.
El Chingon lost their outdoor seating because their awful sidewalk parking neighbors complained. Email them info at elchingonphilly dot com for ways to help.
Council couldn’t figure out how to spend $800 million dollars so they gave everyone like 20-30 bucks. Repair some schools? Sweep all the streets? Slowzones? Open all the pools on time? Nope. Remember it’s never money. There’s money. It’s willingness to do shit.

“Most people are doing the crimes that we like and commit ourselves. Only a few bad apples are doing the crimes that we in theory don’t like.” -Cops.
“Keep NY Out of Philly” probably feels edgy if you’re 24 & “your dive bar” has “yuppies” in it but have you met a single Dominican here? They’re from NY. Talk to a 100 children of immigrants, see how many of their families lived in NY at some point. It’s a bullshit sentiment.
The Philly shot is down the 200 block of Locust. There are a dozen million dollar homes on what would be one lot in the TX pics. I dunno what you think you’re proving here.
People think this is just about streeteries. It’s about regular outside tables too. The city took those away. They made that harder. Literally can’t put a table on a sidewalk in most places now.
Fishtown / NoLibs sidewalk cafe licenses.
The 1st image is all "temporary" pandemic era licenses. The 2nd is all active sidewalk cafe licenses.
Something's clearly not working here.
My team has been in contact with the Biden Administration throughout the day to correct this decision. I’m pleased Welcome Park will remain the rightful home of this William Penn statue — right here in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Penn founded.
Septa’s very public cleaning campaign and the PPA’s recent shift in focus show how easy it is to improve an org and how well received the improvement will be. Makes me very optimistic.
Holy shit! Who knew people hated the 11th street bike lane so much? I must be some naive rube for riding it daily and thinking, “This is safe and easy. What a calm relaxing ride.” If you recreate it all over the city, we’re instantly the Amsterdam of N. America.
Imagine walking by The Gallery at 10pm and thinking “Damn, this is Just what Philly is all about.” My guy if you don’t want to go to a Sixers game, don’t. It’s replacing part of a sort of blah mall. What are you afraid of? Hoping for a vacant lot so someone can put a mural on it?
Imagine walking the streets around NYC’s Madison Square Garden at literally any time of day or night and thinking, ‘Damn, this is JUST what Philly is missing.’
76 Place is a corny idea being promoted by people who have a lot of money and who stand to earn even more if built.
The permitting process in Philadelphia is so broken that businesses are deciding that even attempting to get a permit isn’t worth it & appear to be just doing whatever then hoping L&I never gets around to them. Walnut St beer garden tried it. I sort of don’t blame them.
That little blue square in the corner with the too small to fit label is why the libraries are closed on weekends and pools won’t stay open all summer.
Actor Amanda Seyfried did a ride-along with Philadelphia police officers on Tuesday as she films a series based on the book "Long Bright River." Seyfried will be playing a Philly cop walking the beat in Kensington.
I’m sorry I forgot the biggest one. Halloween on October 31st!! Fairmount did its own secret (whites only) Halloween on a different date well into this century.
Things Fairmount has opposed (an incomplete list):
1. Desegregation of Girard College.
2. People visiting Eastern State Penn.
3. Ice Cream Shops (Black kids might go there).
4. A wine school.

Parker’s gonna “clean every block” by running some ads and telling block captains they can pick up brooms in deep Fairmount Park between 1-4 on some Tuesday in July. Just watch.
So I don’t expect septa employees to physically remove smokers but if they’re gonna walk by active smokers and not even say “put it out, please.” then what are we doing?
“Septa facilities should also be de facto homeless shelters & injection sites” only sounds viable if you don’t need to take the train, you don’t think anyone else does either & you have a very low standard of care for those in need.
Sounds like Shapiro is doing his bit. Now we need the city and collar counties to do there. No reason septa can’t get federal money, local matching, bigger operating budget, and expand service. Go go go.
The Ave was poppin’ today. Would have been great without the cars. It’ll be lively for 90% of the weekends between now and November. Would be great if they were car free. Safer, friendlier, more profitable. A win for all.
This is one of the more unhinged things you'll ever read. Reads like a conservative relative ranting about parking spots and entitled employees. Go away, lady.
The best M**mers critique is that it isn’t a great parade. So many gaps, low effort “performances” & so many U Haul trucks for some reason. Would be so easy to turn it back into an event for the city instead of Broomall & Washington Township. A tradition worth saving from itself.
Regardless of any William Penn stuff, NPS is not a good resident of Philadelphia. Sites are often shabby and unwelcoming. They have too much prime real estate. Footprint should be shrunk by at least half.
Fairmount park would be phenomenal with no through traffic and 90% fewer cars. With no cars, there would be 8 people in the park. It’s sucks but much of the park is very far from people.
Glad to hear that

has been released from the hospital. While shocking, this incident is a reminder that traffic violence can happen to anyone. We must get serious about this issue to protect all Philadelphians.
Regional Rail is a brilliantly built system but it is intentionally designed for daily riders exclusively. If an I frequent rider attempts to use it, they face confusion and price gouging.

Lotta talk in this article. Pursue funding, community engagement, develop plans, hold meetings, stakeholders, stuff that started in 2019… How about plant the dang trees? Just do it!
Things people in Chinatown have opposed:
1. Center City Commuter Tunnel (wrong)
2. Casino at the Gallery (right)
3. Reopening Franklin Sq Station (wrong)
4. Vine St Expressway (right)
5. Phillies ballpark (Ultimately irrelevant, plan was never serious. Didn’t have the land.)
That smoking/drug use/cleanliness/violence isn’t an all hands on deck emergency for the city and septa is wild to me. They’re completely fine with years of this.
I dunno what this guys is selling but he’s the best thing to happen to Broad & Snyder in a while. 5 or so yrs ago small scale vendors like him were a big part of keeping nonsense off that corner. Glad they’re back.
Good World Cup Fan Fest locations:
1. Schuylkill Banks (floating screens).
2. Independence Mall.
3. 10-15 simultaneous block party fests around the city.
4. Parkway (if we have to).
What we'll get:
1. The parking lot outside the Wells Fargo Center.
It’s a weird thing to prioritize. Far more people walk during winter storms than drive. So why are we taking people responsible for sidewalks off sidewalk clearing duty?
Parks & Rec works to provide a safe and welcoming experience for all park users. During winter storms, our crews are initially deployed to help support citywide efforts to clear streets and roads.
The weirdest thing about the mayoral election is how the candidates who lost basically don’t exist anymore. Resign to run makes it such a wild “become mayor or disappear from local politics forever” proposition.
SEPTA Transit Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a gunman wanted in a shooting at the Tasker-Morris Station this morning. Fortunately - no one was injured. [1/3]
Ranking places in Philadelphia best to worst by snow removal.
1. College campuses.
2. National Park property.
3. SDP Schools.
4. Center City business.
5. Mid to large apartment building.
6. Rowhouse.
7. Corner biz not in greater CC.
8. Small apartment building.
9. Rec center.
Parker & Charters: pub ed is a blind spot for the growth machine crowd but they need to realize that every neighborhood that has been an epicenter of growth did it with a public k-8. Fly by night grift academy has never been part of that. No potentially viable school? No growth.
Kenyatta Johnson is a profoundly stupid, corrupt man who wants nothing positive for the City of Philadelphia but in the end every Council President candidate was going to allow councilman prerogative to continue. No change.
After work routine: walk from sub to daycare, walk to snack store, walk to park, walk home, eat dinner, take a walk around the block. The toddler is doing more daily steps than all of Bucks County combined.
@dieworkwear
I walked to the grocery store today and the checkout guy actually said “I haven’t seen you in 2 or 3 days. What’s new?” Every other day grocery shopping is actually great.
Passyunk smoke shop ordered to close by L&I never closed. Still open today. Nothing matters. If you don’t get that zoning approval, just do whatever you want.
Everyone should go see the orchestra. You can get a ticket for pretty cheap. They’re great musicians. Even if you don’t know anything about the music. Just go. It’s a really good time.
Went to the Philadelphia Orchestra for the first time Saturday.
We got drinks in the lobby and the bartender told us he couldn't give us ice.
Me: "Why, are they afraid people will throw it?"
Him: "Everyone thinks that cause this is Philly but no, it's because of the noise."
Reminder: the PPA is doing more (but not enough) to keep your kids safe than any other organization in the city. They may give you a $40 ticket on occasion.
Truly this sounds like awful leadership on
@southstreetphl
No Spring Fest. All these concerns about parking? South Street's rebirth isn't coming from someone driving in from out of town.
This is all silly. You can’t just open a casino. They’re the hardest thing to get approval for in the city (except for a bike lane). Market East casino was rejected 20 years ago. But what about ads for gambling? Then ban those everywhere. What is this talking point?
For
@JamieGauthier1
to have "no position" on a project brining that much affordable housing to West Philadelphia is mind melting. This is the affordable housing we need but someone might not like it so no support.
Haverford Square Properties LLC plans to build 1,050 units of multifamily housing across eight apartment buildings in West Philadelphia’s Belmont neighborhood with 30% of the units designated to rent for below market rate.
I’ve been car-free in Philly for 30 years. Raised a child, saved enough money to pay her college tuition and take some nice vacations. Never looked back (except when crossing the street)
I’m a native New Yorker now living in Philadelphia. It’s not “lazy” to say Philly isn't New York. It’s a fact.
Public transit is part of NYC culture; over 50% of New Yorkers don’t have a driver’s license. Taking SEPTA to a sports venue is not part of Philly’s culture.
#76Place
Guns & the security overkill they produce ruin fun. 2008 Phillies parade had no barriers. People just walked in street with the parade. Pure joy. 10 yrs later you couldn’t cross Broad St during Eagles parade. Less spontaneous. Next one will be as joyful as a TSA screening.
Temple University has seen a 29% increase in deposits from first-year admitted students over the same time last year, a sign that officials hope means the beginning of an upward enrollment trend following a multiyear decline.
