Outfield play can be boring and repetitive for players. We’ve chosen to stress players’ movement patterns with different constraints in order to create opportunities for self-organization. #FridayFielders

Without statcast and expensive tech, OF range can be tough to gauge. We tested our players’ ability to accelerate in 8 different directions at 15 / 30 / 60 ft The data indicates which OFs have the best range and then who should play what position based off the #’s

📍The Outfield Blueprint📍 🔹Systematic approach to identify & track where inefficiencies can occur. 🔹Checkpoints flow into one another w/ a symbiotic relationship. 🔹Coaches need to be able to translate info to players & present it by being precise, accurate & actionable.

The application of technology cannot be achieved without program wide understanding. As @UCWV_Baseball begins to integrate @Blast_Bsbl the value of creating a commonality in language is key. Below is the verbiage we have established. FINDINGS: no metrics are independent factors

Rodman said that he studied the spin on players shots to know where he needed to position to rebound when they missed. ➡️Curious if this is/was common practice in basketball? ➡️What creative avenues like this are we missing in baseball? #Lastdance

Technology by itself is not the disruptor. Not being customer (player)-centric is the biggest threat to any business (program/organization).

Not mentioned during the broadcast but an unbelievable play by Pache. The aggressiveness to & through the ball makes this play closer than anyone thought. Muncy looks halfway down the line when this ball is released. Arm Strength ✅ Quick Transfer ✅ Accuracy ✅

Visual aid for implementation It is important when working w/ new athletes to test where they are @ in the dev. process when trying to establish a baseline This allows coaches to go back & reassess their own teaching methods Upper Left: Timeline Bottom Right: Focus THREAD 1/2

I remember learning how to drop in for the 1st time at a skatepark. Constantly having to make my own adj. with no coach but rather the help of peers. Skateparks are a great ex. of a self directed environment. Create the environment and they will learn.

@rgJondowd Much appreciated! Watching the MLB playoffs, I saw Statcast was able to calculate where OFs were +/- based off the balls hit their direction during the season. I wanted to try and do something similar for positioning purposes and see if players were playing the right position

@beyondyouthball The first testing we did took the “read off the bat” out. I wanted to see their peak acceleration with knowing the direction and distance of which they needed to run. The next step would be to introduce the variable of a read off the bat and then calculate the times again.

@Coach_Ambler It was based off the avg of the sample size. Basically seeing where they were into relationship to their teammates. Since I’ve done it, I also turned those numbers into sprint speed to make the numbers more tangible to OF play.
