Dennis Smith Jr. was almost out of the NBA at 23. But he overcame expectations, trades and injuries, and embraced being a role player and top defender to revive his career

I really hate how the Lowry era in Miami played out. He deserved better as an all-time great and Heat fans never accepted him
He wasn’t the savior they expected him to be, and he aged quickly in a Heat uniform
Dion Waiters has dropped over 20 lbs, is healthy and ready to make an impact for the

With Jimmy Butler out due to injury and Miami losing by 8 to the Wizards, it was up to Bam Adebayo to carry the team to victory.
He responded with one of the best games of his career.
Your recap of the 100-89 win over Washington.
Remember Orlando Robinson telling us on

before the season that he felt like he could have made a difference in the Finals.
He's in and guarding Jokic now.
This has been building since 2010 and intensifies whenever Miami goes after any star player, from The Decision to “Butler is getting a head start on retirement.” Twitter would have melted in 1996 when David Stern ruled against Pat Riley trying to add Gary Payton and Juwan Howard
Hoo boy, Miami fans are MADDDDDD.
Y'all are getting Dame. You have effectively used your leverage to shut off all other options. We don't HAVE to pretend like you have a great trade package. It's a shit package, it's going to happen anyway. You're not the first team either.
Bam Adebayo on importance of point differential for the In-Season Tournament: "That's the thing a lot of guys I've been seeing disagree with because if you're up 15 and you're trying to get a point differential with 40 seconds, it takes the integrity from the game."

"They were shell-shocked to start the game and I think they made adjustments throughout at that they'll continue to do so."

The Miami Heat have developed a unique data platform to help generate increased revenue and have entered into a multi-year licensing deal with the Milwaukee Bucks for use of that platform, a first-of-its-kind agreement.

One day, we’ll look back at the work the Miami Heat did in the wake of LBJ’s departure in 2014 and marvel how that team avoided completely falling apart
Holding on to a 17-point lead with Herro struggling, Bam in foul trouble and the team shooting less than 30% from 3 might be the most impressive thing Miami has done all season
I wrote about the Miami Heat’s latest innovation to remain the best retailer in the NBA: the team’s one-of-a-kind production facility to process orders, customize apparel and distribute their in-house clothing line

Miami is still going to be fine, regardless. They were never supposed to be as good as they’ve been over the last four seasons and they’ve won a lot. That may happen again this year.
But I still think a move or two to shore up obvious areas of weakness (PG/PF) are necessary
New career-high with 23 points for Bam Adebayo, who also has 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 blocks
I happened to write something about him just last week

: The Miami Heat have entered into a multi-year agreement with American Airlines for the team’s global marketing rights, the second team in the NBA to enter into such an agreement
San Antonio hiring Brent Barry for their front office depletes a very thin group of NBA television analysts that you can actually tolerate listening to
In potential playoff matchups with Damian Lillard, Jalen Brunson, Donovan Mitchell, etc, Delon Wright is a good option for Erik Spoelstra to have on the roster
I wouldn’t expect him to start but he’ll be a contributor on a team that has made the most with who they have available
I don't want to even mention it because it just seems so ludicrous to me, but does anyone actually care about Boston's "only lost two quarters" thing? Does that matter? If you lose them in dramatic fashion, the game swings dramatically. Isn't that how it always works?
They dumped him. They straight up dumped Andre Drummond. They put Drummond out there like you did with your futon when you were moving out of your college apartment after graduation.
The Heat has been defined by superstars for years and now look to Josh Richardson to lead the team.
I talked to family, coaches and teammates about his journey from Edmond, OK to Miami if he’s ready for the challenge. My latest via

Since 2006, Miami Heat fans have embraced the team's "White Hot" marketing campaign, and will continue tonight as they kick off their first home game of the Finals.

Today has been a terrible day, just one of those where the quarantine life has hit me particularly hard. I’m sure everyone can relate to it at this point.
Wishing all of you the very best and looking forward to a day where we can establish some sense of normalcy again.
Chris Silva left Gabon at 14 with the goal of reaching the NBA. Tireless work carried him to Roselle, New Jersey then South Carolina and now with the Miami Heat.

I’ve seen enough* and think Jamal Cain is that next Heat guy that people outside of Miami don’t know about but will be a real pain in the ass for other teams
*preseason basketball is never an accurate gauge of anything so this is a lie
Maybe it’s just that Highsmith’s defense is already at such a high level, but his development seems more sustainable for a long, productive career, moreso than other recent Heat projects
That man is going to paid down the road
Watching Miami’s pregame shootaround and I’m a believer in Nikola Jovic. Not sure if it will manifest as soon as next season, but he’ll be a good NBA player
Lot of room to improve, obviously, but Nikola Jović has been much better defensively from the start of the season, moving his feet well, switching onto guards and not getting smoked in the process
Been doing this for a while but I have to admit I hope I never grow numb to getting this in my inbox…looking forward to going to Indianapolis for All-Star Weekend and everything that comes with it
After challenging himself to be more aggressive on offense at the start of the season, the Heat are 20-10 in games in which Bam Adebayo shoots at least 15 FGA and 12-5 in games in which he shoots 18 FGA or more
He scored 30 points on 12-of-22 shooting vs. the shorthanded Celtics
Just wanted to thank

What an incredible opportunity to talk to one of my favorite players growing up and a Heat legend from the 2005-06 squad that won a title
The more I consider it, I think I understand why it’s the better decision for Jimmy Butler to shoot that 3 with 16 seconds left. No guarantee what happens next or if you get a better opportunity to win. He earned the right to take it and it was a good look
What’s the goal for Portland here?? Just talked about this with
@HPbasketball
and find it difficult to understand why they would want to start the season with this trade hanging over everything
Per source, Portland has remained disinclined to engage Heat in serious trade discussions on Lillard. Blazers acting disinterested about dealing him here. One would think Blazers would get serious about this at some point, but they're still not engaging Miami in negotiations
Over two years ago, I talked with Udonis Haslem and thought he might retire after that season. I was happily proven wrong. He’s a South Florida icon and should play as long as he can.

Bruh, you played Atlanta with Collins in one knee and 4 games against Embiid that cried when the ball touched his face
We played the 2 best players in the world, including the defending champs that always are 100x tougher
We had the hardest road, you likely the easiest
But, and hear me out, what if they’re not better?
That point detracts from what Miami is capable of and what they’ve done through two games. You’re taking away credit from the team that built the 26-point lead by saying the team who’s lost twice in three times just made mistakes
I think it's relevant because I think the Celtics are the better team by a meaningful margin, and that the main reason they're down in this series is a lack of focus/beating themselves.
To me, the quarters-thing underlines that point.
Just a reminder to anyone interested that I’ll be covering the Finals over

If Kyle Lowry doesn’t check back in within the last 5 minutes (and there’s nothing to indicate that he will), it’ll be the fourth-straight game in which he doesn’t play a single second in the 4Q

Rewatching last night’s game and Bam Adebayo’s aggression early in the 3Q is what really stands out. It’ll get overlooked with Jimmy’s big night but Bam was incredibly impactful to close that 12-point deficit and give Miami their lead

Does anyone not have this opinion? Like, who is nodding along in agreement that he does not get any respect? Didn’t we all collectively laugh at the self-imposed Washed King label?
If/when Kyle Lowry returns, I think we see his impact later in the series
Time isn’t usually kind to players his age, and what is needed rest tends to become more like rust. As a playmaker, he should be fine (which is okay!), but he’s not providing a huge boost in scoring
@talkhoops
A quick search shows are a lot more pictures of Jazz Wolves than I would have expected. I don’t even know what a Thunder Pelican would look like
