has closed their Joburg City branch. They told their staff on Friday, and all operations from today are cancelled. The "severance package" offered is one month's pay for February, and they have to be at work the whole month. Absenteeism is deductible from the package.

I think five is still tok young. It should be never, unless your child is over the age of 13 and is able to give informed consent.
So many people call Johnny Clegg nonracial. But to me, listening to and reading his quotes, he was obviously clear that he was white in black spaces, working with black people. He resisted racism; but never imagined race didn't exist. And that's really something to me.
Newsrooms are hiring newbies because companies refuse to pay decent wages. People with institutional knowledge and experience are just not paid when they freelance (if you haven't seen what happened to Niren, I suggest you do).
This absolutely appalling behaviour. And you can't call a month's notice (which isn't even a month because the 2nd of Feb is not the beginning of the month) a severance package. The staff have to go to work every day for the next month and do nothing.
@BMW_SA
this is horrible.

This isn’t how to conduct an interview!
Firstly she jumps into the IP being that of MTN.
When the difference on the IP is explained she says ‘let’s not be technical’
Then barely grants the guest an opportunity to speak’

Journalists in SA are hosting a vigil to remember our colleagues who have been killed, injured, & imprisoned while covering the genocide in Palestine. We ask fellow journalists & our supporters to attend wearing black. You can also pay your tribute online using

Mihlali is one of the most dedicated people I've worked with. I believe every word. It is heartbreaking because this experience is so similar to my intimidation and bullying there years ago. This company will not change.

I don't know. Maybe BMW can help. But as a brand... well. The world is changing. We are going to stand up for what's right. And they need to know it.
I have to say to elder journalists, the newsroom isn't what you remember it to be. And it changed in a very short space of time. I've been in newsrooms during this transition and it is terrifying. We have a broken media with no one to speak for us. We are on our own.
We used to have commissioning editors, sub-editors, section editors. Now we have a news editor. Klaar. We're missing several layers of experience just to get the story out.
Reporters in their early 20s are sent out to the scene of one of the biggest tragedies we've ever had in this city. They don't have anyone to ask for help. Their editors are too busy to focus on them properly because they are writing, subbing and getting quotes. It's so hard.
Now the five reporters in a newsroom with no more than four years of experience to cover national stories must know what to do? And then when there are experienced journalists who do it, they are told to be quiet? You guys really can't see how this model is broken?
This is my last week at Eyewitness News. As sad as I am to leave my incredible digital team, I am ecstatic to be taking a chance on myself. Watch this space - it's going to be great!🖤
We used to have internship programmes with its own editor. That editor would focus on their development for a year. Now? LOL while we are running the newsroom we are also training the young ones. Big ups to them because they really try. I have had amazing young people.
The amount of work it takes an editor to train someone with little to no experience is massive (and thankless). Newsrooms are scrambling to be able to do everything they can but they aren't resourced and have no support. Editors are on their own and aren't listened to.

And they will continue to. But they don't control our stories. They don't own it. We do. Black people do. We always have. You tell the right story. We remind them of the right story. We make sure they know we'll never let them take that away.
This is abhorrent. We need to hear exactly what he said. It is unacceptable that a media practitioner is asked to apologise for calling for balanced and factual reporting. There is proof that some big, international media made allegations without evidence.
It's not just poverty, it's not just corruption, it's not just Zuma. There are so many parts that contributed to the situation we're in right now, writes

If you can help a friend's colleague with research, please do. They're looking for black South African men between 18 and 35. They're struggling to find people.
A group of us is urgently looking for LGBTQI+ activist and founder of Halfway House Centre safe house Mpho Siza Mathiba. We haven't been able to contact her since 6 June. The last time she was seen was in Thembisa on 13 June. If you hear anything, please let me know. Thank you.
I don't know who I'm supposed to seek advice from now, or who will meet me for last-minute lunch in the sun. Who will support my grand, life-changing plans and tell me it's possible? Hopefully we do your memory justice, lovable one.
Can you imagine running from home via the ocean where death is almost certain and then being forced to live on it, without the security of the ground? How terrifying must it be to float forever? How is such inhumanity going unchecked? I cannot understand.
Having a dog means hot people stop to talk to you and your dog all the time. Today, a man told me my dog is as cute as me. He was cute. Imagine, three cuties shooting the breeze on a Thursday afternoon. 😎

Hi Redi. As is evident in the story, he was not named, therefore we could not use an image of the person in question at the time. If there's anything else, please feel free to call me.
I love Saturday mornings. I make them gentle.
I saunter to the balcony. I make some coffee. Have a cigarette. Hit a J. Some tea.
I go for a walk. I have music and it's early, so I'm alone on the street. I come back and I absorb the crispness on the balcony.
It's perfect. 🌻
Me at the shop yesterday. 3 bags of chips (family size), pack of 9 cocktail pies, a strip of chocolate raisins (because i couldn't find Whispers), a strip of lollipops, juice. I don't even drink juice usually. There's one packet of chips left.

My mother just asked me if I want roast chicken or chicken biryani when I visit her. Of course, she's marinated BOTH, just in case, because she's that kind of parent. But who the hell wants roast when they can have biryani?

There are four white people who own flats in my building of 20. All said they did not want a Palestine or Congo flag on our wall. They raised hell and made sure they were heard on the WhatsApp group, one asking about Ukraine and another using their fragility to rally the men.
When i saw this picture i laughed so much, me clinging to her for dear life. The only thing we can hope to do is make the South Africa she wanted. My hero. My role model. A fighter as strong as my own mother. And the Mother of the Nation this will one day be.

This is also my discomfort with people calling housekeepers and nannies "helpers". They both can't have the same title. It feels like a way to make people do more than their actual jobs for the same money.

I think the context missing here is analysts and journalists have been predicting he would win due to relations within the party. I don't think it's the speech that's going to seal it for him.
